Tom Gabel Preforms First Show With Against Me! As A Woman

Against Me! frontman, Tom Gabel, is officially a frontwoman!

Over the weekend, the singer / songwriter appeared with his band San Diego, performing for the very first time as Laura Jane Grace.

Earlier this month Gabel came out as transgender, and announced that he was starting treatments to make the physical transform.

Against Me! debuted a new track called Transgender Dysphoria Blues during their live performance. Aside from the song, Laura Jane decided not to mention the sex change on stage.

We hear that the show went wonderfully, and the crowd lurved the introduction to the new woman!

OMG! That warms our cold little hearts!

We are SO excited for, and so so proud of Grace!

It takes a LOT of bravery to come out as a transgender, and even undergo the transformation with millions watching.

Woman or man, Laura Jane Grace has balls!

    Good for her!

There should be an age limit on such a major decision. I do not know how old Tom was when he began to change his gender. Without significant life experience, one cannot wisely make a major commitment. If Tom is over 30, then I applaud Laura Jane Grace. Otherwise, it is foolhardy to "transform" until one is emotionally mature. Shame on Doctors who perform such surgery on those in late teens/20's. True identity, including gender, requires age and expansive life experience.

gonna sell as well as kat graham…keep tooting his horn. speaking of horns. if he decided to have a horn put on his forehead would he be a goat? if tomorrow he decided he was a man again, would you call him one. its really simple does it have an x chromosome or y. you don't get to decide each morning you wake up what sex you are. sorry. but keep promoting!!

FYI, I was at the San Diego show and Tom is still performing as Tom. He looked and sounded just as he always has. When he does make the transition to a woman I am sure she will be just as incredible though! But posting a headline like, "Tom Gabel performs first show with Against Me! as a woman is a bit misleading…

Individuals of toddler age can know with 100% certainty that they are in the wrong body and begin to physically transition. It's not a choice. It's also 'foolhardy' to not consider the emotional trauma of living in a body you do not identify with. Also consider the amazing opportunities pre-pubescent trans children have to take things like hormone blockers to stop any more development of the parts they do not feel are theirs. Not everyone is ready to transition at the same time, but it's a bit presumptuous and quite a generalization to think that young people are incapable of defining themselves because they lack "life experience" (what is this life experience; travel, education, spirituality, sex?) The reality of "life experience" for a lot of trans kids and young adults is a lot of ridicule and misunderstanding, so overcoming that, being secure in their choices, and living life as who they want at a young age, is more life experience and lessons learned than some will ever have. Also, beginning to transition does not mean you immediately run out and get surgery, gender reassignment takes extensive time, effort, and doctors appointments…hell, just getting hormones is a feat. And lastly, performing as a woman means she introduced herself as Laura and is most likely starting/has started hormone therapy. She also has a wife and daughter.

I'm 99% sure you're just a troll, but a little science tip, everyone has X chromosomes, a second X or a Y is the sex chromosome expression of female or male respectively, although the X chromosome carries several thousand genes, few of which have anything to do with defining sex.The presence of SRY in the Y chromosome is sex determining for males, while the XX female cells use estrogen to drive the creation of lady bits. There are also XXX females, and XX males and XXY individuals. Also Tom Gabel has been open about his gender dysphoria for a long time, it's not presto-chango, and an article about HER appearance isn't any more "promotional" than talking about which latest celebrity is pregnant.

As long as taxpayers are footing the bill, he can be any sex he wants.
