MTV Movie Awards Ratings Are Down 29% From Last Year's Broadcast

Mtv movie award ratings down

The MTV Movie Awards are always fun, but that doesn't mean people are always going to tune in.

Even though the show was stellar, ratings were down 29% from last year's broadcast and only drew 3.2 million viewers, compared to the 4.509 people that watched last year.

Russell Brand, KStew, Josh Hutcherson, Emma Stone and the cast of The Dark Knight Rises just couldn't compete against the Game of Thrones season finale, the NBA Finals, and the series premiere of A&E's Longmire.

Better luck next year, MTV! Even though the numbers were small, the quality was mighty!

We totally had a blast watching. How about U?

i hated the awards. normally they are entertaining…they seemed to forget this was the movie awards, where was the beginning monolage w/ movie clips? Russel Brand is an awful host…he needs to stick w/ the music awards instead!

  2. 2

Russell B was great. But Please Perez don't forget to cover the Queen's Jubilee concert. Robbie Williams was ACE and Paul McCartney was totally brill!
Back OT does anyone know what the heckler said to Mila Kunis that got Mark W. all wound up?

The ratings mean nothing today. People record it on DVR and watch something else plus the show is aired all week at different times. You'd also be surprised how few homes have a Nielsen box.

  4. 4

I don't watch them because they're just self congratulatory awards shows and its always the same people that I'm sick of seeing.

This was a horrible show this year….lately Perez you seem to be missing the mark on what is good and what is bad.
Russell Brand is a miserable host, every time he opened his mouth he got crickets from the crowd that should probably clue him into the fact that its just not working, this is exactly what happened the last time he hosted.

I thought they were not as good this year. I watched about 15 minutes and it was so awkward and hard to watch.

Surprised it got even that many viewers
when you have awards going to old women like Jen Anderson, to get viewers they need new blood

  9. 9

Russel Brand is not funny! Like half the time you cant even understand what he's saying, and the winners are always super predictable.

the movie awards are just a platform for studios to promote their "summer blockbusters".. i might as well watch all that bunch of trailers on youtube…

plus russel brand sucks, the reason he gets so much air time is beyond me….

Hey there, self-immolating Progressive Democrats, feeling the backlash yet?
    -
Keep praising President Downgrade and insulting Conservtives and Republicans and the 99% of us Americans.

  12. 12

Re: Peter Wanker – The problem is that most of the young people that are promoted are douche bags.

  13. 13

I didn't even know they were on, nor did I really care. The movies that are nominated are usually not that good and the award show is usually bad.

  14. 14

I didn't know they were on because I NO LONGER WATCH MTV. Who the hell watched Queen's Jubilee shit? Its nothing but a big circus act if you ask me. Bitch is too old and needs to hand her thrown down to her son before he looks like the skeleton from tales from the crypt. I would be more interested in seeing William and Kate take the thrown and kick those old bastards off the boat! By the way, I did see Kate's red dress and she looked fabulous.

It went down because they dissed twilight and didn't nominate them enough but I am still glad that they won Movie of the year and Best kiss!! Next year will be the best!!

I agree with Rachel, I was so disappointed that there was no opening sequence or skits throughout…leave music performances with the music awards
The one year I get to see it live too all the way in NZ

MTV is hardly relevant to anyone anymore. Plus year after year of seeing Twilight take home every bloody award not only gets old, it gets boring. Perez, people do not give a shit about MTV anymore and that's because all MTV does is glorify stupidity (ala Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, etc.) what happened to shows like Daria? Ugh. Anyways the award show is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Especially when the audience knows who is going to bloody win.

  19. 19

    no Rob

  20. 20

Poor Bitter Barren Spinster Old-Hag Jennifer; trying so desperate to remain relevant while living a meaningless life…

  21. 21

I usually love the show and thought this years was the worst I'd ever seen, it had nothing funny or exciting like there was no effort. I hated the way it took the presenters sooooo ling to walk to the microphone like they were trying to waste time.

    22

I didn't watch them, the fact that MTV left out Twilight cast from other categories just to let The Hunger Games cast win, didn't like it…. I guess many people didn't it for the same or similiar reasons…

  23. 23

This awards show was L A M E and filled with uncomfortable moments. I think its time for good ole MTV to retire. MTV was cool like ten years ago! Now, not so much.

    24

Isn't she suppose to be pregant?

  25. ISUPPORTDIVERSITY says – reply to this

    25

The reason why the MTV Movie Awards ratings TRULY went down is because of the lack of diversity in movies, Russell Brand, and terrible jokes.

  26. 26

Maybe it was because they didn't show the newest in the Twilight series sneak peek. They have done that for the last three years but not this year

  27. 27

As much as I love awards ceremonies, Russell Brand wasn't on enough and the commercials were longer than the ceremony itself. Got bored.

  28. 28

Of course, there was no Rob and Russel sucks… I didn't watch it because of that.

  29. 29

Re: Kay – actually, they were only nominated twice this year, HG was who took more awards, like 6 or 5… Actually i think that was one of the reasons the rating was lower, because of the lack of twilight (Rob) and Russel

    Re: Mary – i agree

  31. 31

haaa twihards , twilight fans POWER
MTV choose The Hunger Games, there you are your raitings your assh…

  32. 32

Re: Tpec1991 – YOU ARE SO RIGHT !!!
That's exactly the main reason why i didn't see the f… awards this year
    Go to Hell Hunger Games
We want more twilight next year, or you my dear MTV gonna feel the pain on your raitings again !!!

  33. 33

    Re: andysgrrl – E X A C T L Y !!!
Same reason here why i didn't see that crap !!!

  34. thaly says – reply to this

    34

The main reason was because Twilight was dissed, just because of that new saga. Bad move MTV you made a huge mistake and here are the consecuences. Don´t mess Twihards because this is the result. And also Rob wasn´t there, so BORINGGG!!!!!
You chose HG and you lose. Too bad
