Jon Stewart Rips CNN For Diamond Jubilee Coverage

| Filed under: Jon StewartTV NewsAnglophiliaRoyals RoyceKate Middleton

God saved a lot of money on His car insurance by switching to Geico the Queen!

American news outlets devoted an entire weekend to coverage of the Diamond Jubilee — instead of, say, a Nigerian plane crash with over 150 fatalities — but Jon Stewart was happy to call them on their codswallop!

At first glance, the celebration of 60 years of the Queen ruling with an iron fist wearing a lot of fancy hats doesn't seem all that interesting.

The Daily Show gave us a second glance and, still, it was just an "orgy" of boats moving slowly down the river!

Thank heavens for Stewart's irreverent sense of humor, or the funniest thing about the entire celebration would have been the color of Kate Middleton's pumps.

Ch-Ch-Check out Jon comparing the Elizabeth II to Darth Vader in the clip (above)!!

BTW — We don't happen to agree. We LOVED the Jubilee! So many AH-MAZING musical performances. We can't really blame CNN. It's really hard to fight the allure of Ed Sheeran and the beauty of Kylie Minogue!

I agree with him. CNN is supposed to be about actual news. While I like looking at pictures and footage of the Royals, I don't expect it to be on CNN. I would look on this site, or E!.

he should realise that not all news has to be bad news.

i like that. Not all news is bad news

Agree with him. I LOVE the royal family and could spend hours watching them, but CNN is a news network…and an American one at that. They don't need to be ignoring real news for it.

    What an irritating man

  9. 9

He seriously needs to aly off the Queen! and the Royal Family! Americans are just overly jealous of our British History!

Compare Her to Darth Vader? That is so disrespectful it's unreal. I am British, and I agree that there should have been less coverage of this and some coverage of the plane crash thing but not all news has to be bad news. Anyway, what I mean to say is no matter what the news networks cover, is not the Queens fault. She didn't ask them to cover her Jubilee, and to mock her is so wrong, she's an 86 year old woman, and the most important one around at that, but that's ok, you just laugh at her. I love America but am proud to be part of a commonwealth and have a monarch, personally.

They might as well show it. True journalistic integrity in the US is dead now. Everything is slanted or in the case of NBC, made up

This is just sad. It's sad that many people, especially in America think the Queen is either just for show or some kind of dictator. Her job is incredibly hard and for her to have been doing so for 60 years is amazing and even at the age of 86 she can still stay up to date.
the most amazing part of these clips wasn't the boats but the fact that thousands of people stood and cheered in the rain (classic Britain) to see it. If you want to see what she means to the public then watch Prince Charles's speech at the end of the Jubilee concert:)
I really hope that some people realise how ignorant they can be and don't fight about something they know nothing about. Why were American news stations covering this anyway? Not exactly the Queens fault..

Re: Duncan24 – Yes, that must be it!

As usual, John Stewart is on the money. I adore this man! I'll admit there is something very captivating about monarchies because it's like a fairytale. But a news network such as CNN shouldn't be doing constant coverage of the event.

I'm guilty of being one of the people who woke up early and watched the royal weddingast year, but the constant coverage and analysis of every moment afterwards was ridiculous.

  14. 14

who cares…absolutely no one watches CNN anyway…
And JS is getting old and musty…

  15. 15

Re: Duncan24 – oh you mean the history of conquest, rape, murder, colonialism and the use of brute force to control and enslave other nations? Yah Americans are just jealous of all the Monarchy has stood by and allowed to happen you are right. smhhh

  16. 16

I'm English. I hate the Royal Family. So much money wasted on the crappy Jubilee. Who gives a shit?

Who's interested in what "big gob" JS has to say anyway - who is he? Just one of those people who take the Mick out of other's to try to make himself "appear" better….
Total toss pot! It was a bloody good weekend here in Britain, with an extra day off for all of the festivities. Agree more coverage should have been shown about the air crash on CNN - BUT he doesn't have to watch any coverage of the Jubilee - there's plenty of other channels? TURN OVER!!!!!!!!!! All he does is shout, shout, shout with that great big gob……………..

If the Americans don't want to follow royal events in the UK then use your remote and watch something else! I can see the point about CNN coverage maybe being excessive but from what I saw Jon Stewart's mocking is more about the UK coverage and the way that we were celebrating over here, and that was disrespectful - I would never think to mock Americans for celebrating Independence Day so there's not really any need to mock people in the UK for celebrating a Diamond Jubilee for only the second time in history. There is a deep love and respect for the Queen in the UK (not with everybody of course) and respect for the 1000 years of royal history that she is part of so mock us or not Jon Stewart for our celebrations but this country came together this weekend and celebrated a truly remarkable monarch, keep the mocking to the CNN instead.

Re: KarrieBelle – hard work haha all she has done in her sixty years of living of the backs of the working class is breathe in and out.give me one example of when she has ever acted in the interst of the people,as her supposed prime function is to deny overall power to politicians.the same politicians that allowed young unemployed to be press ganged into slave labour stewarding this ridiculous media circus.

Silly man and typical of America. Mocking a country and women who has dedicated her life to service, all because it has nothing to do with Americans. Get over yourselves…
