We doubt anyone really thought otherwise, but it's still a bummer to know for certain!
After eight years, Weeds will finally come to an end after its upcoming season, starting July 1st, finishes its run this summer!
Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins says of the comedy series:
“There were two shows, Weeds and Dexter, that really got Showtime taken seriously for cutting-edge original programming. How they get brought home is really important. In this case, both for the sake of the two women behind the show [Kohan and Golden Globe-winning star Mary-Louise Parker] and an audience that’s really invested in the show. TV fans love nothing better than to complain about how shows end and we really want to end this one the right way.”
And for those of who thought the SPOILER ALERT assassination attempt from the season finale last yearwould be the end of Nancy Botwin and her crazy drug-selling antics, it clearly will not be!
In fact, creator Jenji Kohan recently revealed that there will be yet ANOTHER quick resolution and time-jump at the beginning of season eight, but she and the writers have YET to figure out how to end their heroine's story!
“I’m so proud of what we do here and that it’s about a strong woman lead who’s really flawed. We get to do comedy right up against drama, which a lot of shows don’t get the opportunity to do. We wrack our brains every year for crazy cliffhangers and we’re trying to figure out how to top ourselves."
Well we hope that there manages to be SOME resolution after all these years!
The fans who have stuck with the series certainly deserve that!
AND the return of beloved Celia Hodes! It just hasn't been the same for us since she left!
All in all, though, it's been a great run and we look forward to one last hurrah with Nancy and company!
How about U?
