HBO Freaks Out Over George W. Bush’s Head!

| Filed under: TV NewsRihannaWacky, Tacky & TrueSilly!Politik

Really, HBO execs? Of alllll the racy, controversial sh*t you display - which is WHY we adore you so - a prosthetic head on a spike that looks like George W. Bush is what you find ‘unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste?’ Ha!!

We guffawed until our guts were sore upon the discovery of a Game of Thrones prop secret - the former President’s likeness impaled on a spike in King’s Landing - which show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss divulge during DVD commentary of Season One, episode 10.

But HBO is NOT amused! Execs recently issued the statement:

"We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste. We made this clear to the executive producers of the series, who apologized immediately for this inadvertent careless mistake. We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production."

Benioff and Weiss have since apologized, and released their own statement:

“After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W. Bush. In the DVD commentary, we mentioned this, though we should not have. We meant no disrespect to the former president and apologize if anything we said or did suggested otherwise."

We understand business’ covering their bases and not wanting to alienate/offend a certain demographic… but this is HBO! Turn on an Episode of GIRLS and you can watch a twenty-something having fantasy, pedophile sex!

AND Game of Thrones consistently features incest!

HBO's whole deal - much like Rihanna - is not giving a f*ck what people think!

A little hypocritical, perhaps? It's a prop for goodness sake!

Perez, you are such a hypocrite. If it was Obama's head cut off you would call it tasteles and horrible.

Reguardless if you liked Bush or not as a president, he was still the President of the United States and you should have some respect.

  3. Meg says – reply to this

So what' it's okay to disrespect Bush because he does not believe in gay marriage? Why don't you shut your pie hole. You're turning of you Republican fans who was there with you before you hit your 3M monthly readers. Keep your political opinions to yourself! You're not qualified!

  4. GM says – reply to this

I just think that if it was Bill Clinton or Barack Obama's head, you would be singing a different tune. But since it's George W. Bush, it's ok…right?

  5. janine says – reply to this

I think Americans should give Bush some sort of respect. He is was after all the president of the US. Doing that to you country's political leader is a sick joke.

  6. CJ says – reply to this

Hilarious since David Benioff's father, Steve Friedman, was GW's Economic Advisor.

  7. 7

The decapitated head was disrespectful to the office, if not the man. Did Bush do a shit job? Yes. But these days all legislators are a bunch of assholes; they're all in it for themselves. I don't care what party is involved, they're all self-absorbed, grand-standing morons and our founding fathers would be horrified at what goes on today. By his own lights, Bush thinks he did the best he could, and that may be true. Since none of us was sitting in his chair, we can't know. So let's not disrespect the office even if you can't find it within yourself to try to sympathize with the man. Perez, you are a hypocritical, ignorant asshole.

    Re: CJ
P.S. I agree with the above. President Bush is a great guy (I promise) and did what he thought was right for our country at the time. Everyone deserves respect no matter if we agree with them or not. I'm always proud of our Presidents, no matter political party, because I'm an American first and am for this great country we call home.

    Who cares?

  11. saff says – reply to this

Re: CJ – 'Everybody' does not deserve respect. He lead us into an illegal war that has killed lots of innocent people. But I guess it doesn't matter to you because killing a bunch of people 'seemed right at the time'. Ignorant fool.

  12. 12

Honestly, I can't stand Bush and make no apologies about that…but that was a little too far. Regardless of him being president or not, he's a person first and foremost.

  13. saff says – reply to this

For the record I don't think this was in good taste either, but nobody seems to be able to take a reasonable stance when it comes to this site. It's either ultra left or ultra right. Just because this is distasteful towards Bush doesn't immediately make Bush a good guy. He wasn't a good guy. He wasted billions of dollars going into a war that had no legal grounds and innocent people, including good American people just in case you forgot, died because of it. And now we're no better off because of it. It was a wrong decision full stop. And people who voted Bush in are just as much to blame as he is, which is why you're all trying to defend him. Blood's on your hands too, and saying 'we did the best at the time' doesn't wipe it off. The best you people can do now is learn from your mistakes, but you won't do that either. I pray to God that he gives you all some sense, I really do.

  14. 14

Mario, you are a hypocrite who preaches love and respect for all but actually bashes celebrities and republicans who disagree with your views. You're a fake!

  15. Chan says – reply to this

Regardless of any political views the fact is that he was still a president of the united states. If that was Obama people would be very put off and there would be a huge uproar. No matter how you felt about Bushes presidency he was stil our leader and with that comes a certian level of respect that should be maintained at all times.

  16. Vetur says – reply to this

As I see it, this is one of those ridiculous, fake controversies whose only purpose is to give 24-hour news networks something else to fill their days. If it weren't for the DVD commentary, this wouldn't even be an issue. It's not like someone discovered this hidden, political agenda in Game of Thrones. Second, even knowing that the head is Bush, I can't tell. No one who watches the show would ever be able to tell, so it's all completely meaningless. Also the DVD came out 3 months ago…so people that bought it in millions could not be so bothered if this info is coming out now.

  17. 17

The american media is not covering the fact that last month George W Bush was convicted of war crimes by the war crimes tribunal…

Honestly I dont think its in that bad taste. In game of thrones your head will be on a pike if you get caught as a war criminal. Just saying.

    just saying….

  18. 18

not sure why my links were not posted.. however.. go do some research on the subject to find out that he has been convicted and cant leave the US cause he will be arrested.

Just cause somebody was president does not make them a better person than others.. if anything you need to be a more upstanding individual. George bush is responsible for the death and torture of thousands of people.

just dont get why people respect him just cause he got elected (which was rigged as well).

  19. 19

If it was a picture of Obama, the media would have been all over this story and the FBI would be at HBO's door. But since it is Bush, it's OK.

Keep in mind everyone loved Bush for the first 6 yrs. Once the democrats had control of the house and the senate and things then started to tank, Bush got the blame.

How many wars does Obama have us in now? How many soldiers have died now? But that's OK???? You liberals make me sick.

You spew your rhetoric and have no clue what you are even talking about.

  20. 20

Re: LiberalsMakeMeSick – Yes. And to think Eric Holder has the time to go after Ted Nugent. What a joke! Didn't Joyless from The View say she wanted to burn down MR's 100 million houses? Sounds like a threat to me. Arson is a serious threat.

  21. ReallyPerez? says – reply to this

Annd if it were Obama's head you would be blogging about how "disrespectful and disgraceful and tasteless" the producers of the show are.

…..As a fan of the books, and the show….it was done in terribly poor taste. Totally unnecessary.

  22. saff says – reply to this

Re: LiberalsMakeMeSick – The soldiers dying now are only dying because they are fighting a war Bush started. Obama had nothing to do with the war, so how he can be responsible for the deaths of people dying in a war that he has nothing to do with is beyond me. Like people who blame Obama for the recession, even though it was Bush who instigated it to begin with. It's just easier for you morons to blame it on the black guy then the hick you voted in. You make me sick.

  23. jakeyplay says – reply to this

Re: LiberalsMakeMeSick – That doesn't even make sense. The only war going on is the one Bush started, there isn't a separate one for Obama. Do you even know what you're talking about? Obviously not. Say what you want about Liberals, they actually educate themselves on the subject, which is more then you've bothered to do.

  24. HUSH BEE OHH says – reply to this

There are people at HBO who are war vets, republicans and absolute patriots who do not take this stuff lightly. I know of at least one person in production who has been fired for this and more are coming. HBO is fine with racy, risky taking content…when they are made aware of it before hand. If anything, this will negatively affect the quality of programming because the GOT crew have set a precedent for HBO execs to get involved more intimately during production. Thus far, "hands off" has been the secret to HBO's success. They are taking this VERY seriously and are reconsidering how everything runs.

  25. 25

I just think its a matter of respect for ALL of our nation's leaders, it wasn't done maliciously, but it is not a good look for HBO to have a former president's head on a spike. As others mentioned, if it was Obama there would be such an out cry.

  26. Ricky says – reply to this

Wow, that is it. after several years I will no longer visit this site because of Perez and his outrageous laughing his guts out about Bush's head on a stake. Truly un American and revolting. See ya later HATER. Oh yeah nice and violent huh Perez ?

  27. 27

Re: saff – what…..obama is innocent? He continued this war, solders dying make me sick, it ruins families forever, but its what they signed up for. It is what they believe in, to die for their country. Whatever reasons we went into war over 10 years ago have nothing to do with this post. You are just one of THOSE liberals who like to freak the hell out over everything that isn't about peace and love. Im not a conservative either…you are just a weirdo.

  28. Bob1974 says – reply to this

If it had been Barack Hussein Obama Sotero you would all be calling racism. It is inappropriate for any President o be displayed like that.

  29. 29

Too bad it wasn't Obama's head. His real head, not a fake one. That would have been GREAT!

  30. 30

I think it is kind of funny. I get that if it were Obama people would be mad… but that is because Obama can string words together to create sentences that make sense! Bush was a clown… I mean read some of the stuff he said. This is funny… I think it is a compliment if anything. I mean at least Bush will be part of something successful. ;)

  31. 31

Show some respect for a former President whether you were for or against him. AThanks.

  32. Hmm says – reply to this

If it was Obama's head you would be preaching about how ghastly and disrespectful it was. It is inhuman to laugh at a head on a stick..period.

    check out this video.

  34. KAS says – reply to this

Yeah, hey, great! Next year they can put Obama's head on a stake when he is booted out of the whitehouse this year.

  35. KAS says – reply to this

    Excelent post!

  36. jen says – reply to this

I wonder how many of you would be laughing if it were President Obama's head on a stake? Hypocrites.
