Mummy Writer Promises Reboot Will Be More Dark Knight, Less Dudley Do-Right

Screenwriter Alex Kurtzman has a few entrees on his plate but thankfully doesn't mind speaking with his mouth full!!
Apparently, the studios who asked Kurtzman and his writing partner Robert Orci to draft scripts for reboots of The Mummy and Van Helsing, want them to dig deep and channel their inner darkness!
"There's been such a tonal shift, in the way audiences go to movies, particularly these big movies… Suddenly, it became about, 'We want The Dark Knight version.'"
That actually sounds promising!!
We love the latest trend of infusing summer blockbusters with a gritty gulp of realism.
And, after penning Star Trek and Transformers 3, we trust these guys know what they're talking about.
Kurtzman continued:
"Whether you end up doing The Dark Knight or not, I think what's cool about that is that it's only grounded superhero stories, or big mythological stories in more reality. That's really what The Dark Knight did, and that was the turning point there. We try to do that on Trek. It's exciting, doing Van Helsing and The Mummy [for those reasons]!"
We're EXCITED that you're excited!!!
And, as much as we adore Rachel Weisz and even Brendan Fraser, any decision to move The Mummy away from family-time adventure and toward "holy crap, a thousand year-old zombie wrapped in toilet paper trying to kill me!" is a good one.
R U excited for The Mummy and Van Helsing reboots?

Weeds: NEW Teaser And Behind The Scenes Footage!

Thanks for the heads up. Two films I can avoid.
Get some creativity, for fuck's sake, Hollywood.
So like with Batman, I'll still have the originals.
"And, after penning Star Trek and Transformers 3, we trust these guys know what they're talking about."
Really? Not big on logic and coherent storytelling, huh? TDK worked for Batman because it's part of who he is….it DOES NOT APPLY TO EVERY MOVIE (I'm lookin' at you, Webb)
the originals are amazing. why must they change everything
