Ebook Sales Surpass Hardcover Sales For The First Time Ever

| Filed under: Tech TalkBusiness BlitzBookz

EBook V Hard

Noooooooo!

But what about the smell of books and the weight of hardcovers??

Until they make an iPad cover that SMELLS like books, it will never be the same! LOLz!

It's a sad day, but we have to report that American publishers are now bringing in more revenue from ebooks than hardcover books. For the first time ever, net sales revenue from ebooks exceeded hardcover books in the first quarter of the year.

The data was compiled from 1,189 publishers and doesn't even include children’s books!

Adult ebooks brought in $282.3 million, with a 28.4% increase from the same period a year ago, while young adult ebooks performed even better, catapulting 233% to $64.3 million.

But all is NOT lost, because adult hardcover books ALSO grew!! They were up 2.7% to $229.6 million in Q1 2012.

So why is this happening?

You know why, don't act like you don't know why.

Playing dumb isn't sexy! Ha!

Paperback sales are still in the lead, though, so no real worries — for now!

Well, everything in life changes, I don't doubt this at all, as my daughter who is 7 and most of her friends are asking about E-book readers, I think that this will continue until the percentage of E-books to normal books will be 65-35%

I like ebooks for travel, but I still love a wall of real books in my house. I usually buy a second copy of all my favourite books in paper editions along with special editions/collectors editions etc.
But ebooks are also waaay more convenient for college. Carrying around 4 e-text books puts way less strain on your back then 4 paper text books (plus they cant rip you off as much )

Very low end your " Subliminal Message " attempt of the Lindsay Playboy Cover and the " smell " of hardcover and books relation. Quite disturbing and sick, actually. It os a SADDAY when Internet Bullies get the run around and imply nasty garbage and get away with it over and over again. One day you might just become an old laughing stock Perez " Hilton " , or should you be now called Perez " Kardashian " or Perez " Cyrus " or Perez " Gaga " ????????

Personally, I like real books better but I don't really care if e-books are selling more. At least people are still reading. I'd rather people read off of e-readers than nothing at all.

Kinda sad my grandchildren or great grandchildren will never know what its like to walk into a book store and browse through the books, know what one smells like, all the stuff. :(

As someone who reads A LOT and someone who travels a lot…ebooks have been a saviour for me. Usually when I travel I end up bringing at least 2 books with me which is a pain but being able to throw my kindle in my bag and just has made life a lot easier. I still buy real books…especially if one of my fave writers comes out with a new book or I see a good deal…but ereaders are just a million times more convenient. (And have rescued my already too full bookshelves)
