Syrian Rebel Sings Backstreet Boys!

| Filed under: Music MinutePolitikInspirationPerezTVBackstreet Boys

It's incredibly easy to forget that across the globe, the majority of Human Beings fight and die for basic freedoms that we in America take for granted.

But one oppressed individual - a rebel in Syria fighting against Military rule - found inspiration in the form of Backstreet Boys song, Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely.

It's a silly love song, but some of its lyrics strangely embody the struggle Syrian rebels are currently undertaking, simply to have the right to live freely, and to choose their ruling party.

this is so inappropriate, he's a mad man with a gun singing a backstreet boy song and you find it courageous?

Re: assuriRe: themundane – Thats the liberal media for you, they had a camera crew there..So they decided to say "hey hold a gun while doing it"

What does a person holding a gun have anything to do with it? If I were holding a gun in a video demonstrating proper gun safety and cracking jokes, would that make me a mad man? You anti-gun libs are annoying.

Re: themundane – Sometimes for peace you need war. Sometimes for peace violence and death must occur. It's the only way. Some people will not listen to reason, rationality, logic..NOTHING. Try going to a bad part of Africa, walking up to an LRA member thats brainwashed and under the impression hes doing "gods work" and saying "stop the violence" and give him a hug. You'll get raped, then murdered. No amount of words or peace offerings can convince him otherwise. Videos like this, as well as soldier videos from Iraq of them goofing off while carrying their guns simply shows they still manage to keep their sanity and humanity during real tough times.

Your social viewpoints are always so childish and simplistic.

we're not that free. if we use our freedom of speech we get punished, just like the Dixie Chicks were punished. we're watched by the corporate gang we call police 24/7, we live in a curfew where everything has to close at 2am ( except for nyc), we can not talk to our friends at the sidewalk after the bar closes, we're pushed out of places like dogs. if that's freedom, then freedom doesn't seem to be as good as they say.

Freedom my ass…….if your not a jungle monkey or a wet back or fasian etc…. then you have no rights. America freedom please spare me. Our thing in office has made sure he has enough votes now. keeping 800,000 illegals from being deported. He fked America and sad as that is most of you shitzzz voted for him cuz he is black. Syrian rebels maybe or just people that are tired of being fked. America is a target rich environment though thanks for that.

While the need for violence in order achieve freedom for self determination, and democracy seems contradictory to most of us sitting in our comfortable homes, and offices, perhaps we need a lesson in history. MOST democracies were created through political turmoil and even war. I dare anyone to find a country where their freedoms didn't come with sacrifice and struggle. It is certainly true in America, it is even true in European countries where their ability to self determine their govenment may be so far in the past, they don't realize what struggle gave them that freedom.

Thank you. Now i'm going to have that song stuck in my head all day long. The meaning is to drag out the clock.

okay, this and then the Arab woman? wonder how this old bsb song has now become a theme song for rebels and activists… btw, bsb will be getting their star in the hollywood walk of fame in 2013!

Re: krinata – The Backstreet Boys have been and are an international phenomenom, far more popular overseas than in their own backyard. I remember seeing posters of them on the walls of a hut in Tibet in National Geographic, and on a CNN program on the liberation of Afghanistan from the Taliban YEARS ago they discussed the opening up of a music store–selling out mostly Michael Jackson and the Backstreet Boys. The grown man was wearing a Backstreet Boys' hat. Although their simple, sweet music is too bland for American taste where pop groups only seem to appeal to the very young and they are objects of ridicule, the rest of world appreciates pop music-and their simple lyrics actually help many populations learn English. Without knowing it, their music as been a benign ambassador that crosses many cultual, religious and political barriers.
