Matt Bomer Talks About Why He Came Out Of The Closet!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayInspirationMatt BomerLGBT

Honestly, how can U NOT love Matt Bomer?

He is a class act, through and through!

The actor, who only just came out of the closet while acknowledging his partner, Simon Halls, and their children during an acceptance speech earlier this year, has opened up about his decision to announce his sexual preference to the masses. He reveals that while it's important that we stop differentiating people by their skin color or sexuality, he's still so grateful to be helping those who may be struggling to accept themselves with his story!

He explains:

"I never really endeavored to hide anything. But there were times I chose not to relegate my history to the back page of a magazine, which to me is sort of akin to putting your biography on a bathroom wall. I had somebody from the military approach me a few weeks ago just saying how this [coming out] helps people, affects people. It brought me to tears. They need saving, certainly in this day and age as much as ever—no matter how much we think we've progressed. What we really have to do is stop the adjective before the job title—whether it's 'black actor,' a 'gay actor' or 'anything actor.' Everybody thinks that equality comes from identifying people, and that's not where equality comes from. Equality comes from treating everybody the same regardless of who they are. I hope the media and the press catches on to that because it's time to move out of 1992."

EVERYONE deserves to feel equal to everyone else, and we think we're not alone when we say that the gay community is SO lucky to have as inteligent, compassionate, and dignified a man as him!

You just keep doing what you're doing, boy!

Your partner and kids should be very, very proud of you! We certainly are!

Dont get this " come out of the closet".. Its like we dont know your gay but feel liberated by screaming it from the rooftops! I worked in the hair business 30+ yrs ago and guys were dying around me everyday! The people you should only care about is your family & friends and enjoy the rest of your life! IS it the in thing now to let the WHOLE world know?? I dont fucking get it!! 99% of them are so guy a 5yr can tell!!! LOL!!! There is SO MUCH more going wrong in this country!!

Perez you are constantly labelling people and talking about sexuality like it's a fucking brand. Could you stop being a hypocrite for five seconds? You and everything you stand for is exactly what he was comparing to a bathroom wall. Stop acting like you're down with what he said when you go against it every fucking day.

I had no idea he was gay. I don't think it is my business, I think he is beautiful! How many "very out" leading "movie stars" are there. There are jobs he may not get (I think he is soooo beautiful, not such a great actor) not because Hollywood are bigots but they know part of their audience is and they are not a charity. I do think that if more people like himself and military men out. Things like Unito highschool beating isn't as accepted and that is a wonderful thing.

I personally would love to see the day when people are not defined by anything other than their talent and who they are as a person.

Can you imagine the Academy Awards or the Golden Globes best actor category being coed? Only one best actor award and you have to be better than any actor out there male or female.

    That would be true equality.

I didn't want or need to know. And now that he's done that, he is never going to be leading man material; he is no longer believable in a heterosexual role. He's gorgeous in many ways, but he's just limited his professional future. And NO, I won't take him seriously if I bother to see Magic Mike. Sometimes we really don't NEED to know. I don't run around telling people I'm heterosexual … I don't want to know that this guy likes the peen. But because he made it about that, now that's how I see him.

  7. 7

He's gay? Why are most good looking men gay? :( (Minus Perez)

  8. 8

Wow you found an idiot friend Perez. Those poor children are being raised in a dysfunctional family and you are for this ? YOU ARE A PIECE OF SHIT!

Happy about the work he's done and the career choices he's made so far. He's a very talented actor, nice guy and lucky to have supportive friends and family around him. Wish him continued happiness and success and want to see lots more of him on TV as well as in movies …. annnnd Broadway !

This is the guy everyone wanted for Christian Grey? I mean no disrespect to gay actors but isn't Christian supposed to be super sexy to women?

I have to laugh when straight people imply a gay person comes out to let them know. Gay people come out for OTHER GAY PEOPLE. To show those who are afraid to come out that they're okay with being who they are. To show gay teens not to be afraid. It has nothing to do with straight people! And as soon as gay people are treated equally - gays will come out to show that even in these prejudiced times - we are not afraid of who we are. You don't like gays coming out? Give us reasons not to. Support equality.

Re: SpiceGuy – Come out for their own reasons not for the in thing to do!! He is an actor and good blow his chance of being a leading man but who cares as lond as he comes out!! Who wants to see a gay man play a lead role with women knowing it??? NOBODY!!! Thats Hollywood…..

Re: Yenkme – It's not that you don't want to see it, it's just that you would have a mental picture of how the actor would prefer the same scene with men so it takes something away from the whole situatio, you know?.

omfg… what's wrong with all u freakin haters…. why hate on Perez?
    Perez is fab!
if u dont like him, than fuck off and dont read his page!!!

Perez you scumbag, you make a point of highlighting the part of his statement where he talks about about equality not coming from identifying people, yet all you ever do is try and say this person or that person is gay. Your hypocrisy has reached an all-time despicable low. If I didn't enjoy ripping you so much I'd never come back to this site.

  16. 16

Re: Omniscient Gal – It's people like you that he is speaking out against. How embarrassing for you.

  17. 17

Perez, I'm never one of the ones trying to call you out on your own website, but come on… You are such a hypocrite. You just made a post a couple of months ago implying Anderson Cooper is weak or selfish by not officially coming out of the closet to the media. If you truly feel the words you highlighted in Mr. Bomer's speech, you would be ashamed of yourself. I hope more people take Mr. Bomer's words to heart, yourself included.

  18. K says – reply to this

Over and over I am surprised with how hypocritical YOU are.. I was fine with this article until I read the part you highlighted.. since what he is talking about is exactly what YOU do! I cannot count how many time YOU have said " openly gay actor…" about someone, even about Matt Bomer.. before he was even out!

  19. CJ says – reply to this

Kind of distressing to see all the comments here about not believing Matt in a straight leading role. You do understand why it's called ACTING, right? He's handsome, very talented, and in demand. White Collar is still filming, but he already has 2 films lined up for this fall. Honestly, take a moment to really think about what he said in the interview - and then if you need to put an adjective in front of the title actor, try "good" or a synonym thereof.

Re: be strong – I would beg to guess that at the end of this mans life - he'll be a lot more proud of himself for being who he is, helping the fight for equality and for being a positive roll model for gay youth than how it might effect a role he was going for in a movie… but that's just me.

Perez, you are one of the one's Matt's talking about. I've seen pics of him on your site where you draw a heart over his crotch! Yuck!

Matt Bomer is a classy, intelligent, funny man who happen to have hit the genetic jackpot. His "coming out" didn't alter most women's fantasies about him because they were just that - fantasies. I'll neve get to meet him or have a romance with him, even if he was straight. Frankly, the fact that he's married and has kids, and is proud of that makes him even hotter.

You go, Matt. I'll be happy to watch you in anything you do.

I love Matt Bomer, I love to look at Matt Bomer. And I will continue to watch White Collar because Ive been a fan since the beginning. A rainbow flag did go up when I saw an interview that he during the first season. But to have it confirmed, doesn't change my mind about the show. It's well written, the cast is great and it's like they are having a love affair with the city of NY, there are always these wonderful shots. I live in NY and it's easy to forget how lucky I am to be here. I love NY. And NY loves Matt Bomer. Kisses. Can't wait for season 4 premiering tonight. So excited.

    [re=6107811]Re: Omniscient Gal

Neil Patrick Harris is gay and plays a womanizer on HIMYM. I don't think his sexual preference should limit what the audience thinks about him or his movie roles.
