Charlize Theron: I Will NEVER Do Theater!

Charlize Theron: I Will NEVER Do Theater!

You'd think someone as like, awesome, talented and knock-out gorg would have the confidence to do practically aaaanything.

But Charlize Theron has an Achilles heel, and it is… performing on stage!

WFT, right?

You'd think that an actress would enjoy acting in any medium, but Charlize explains:

"I'm just not made for that kind of live audience where you don't create a fourth wall. I take my hat off to those guys. It's not disconnected enough for me. Some people are good at performing in front of people like that, but I'm uncomfortable with it."

She hates live performances SO MUCH, that when Young Adult director Jason Reitman asked her to take part in his theatrical readings at the El Lay County Museum of Art, she told him simply:

"I will jump off a building for you, but I will not do that."

Guuurl, thats some serious stage fright!

Stay off the stage, we don't mind.

Keeping out of a theatre and on a studio lot means we can count on a new Charlize-y flick twice a year!

Oh please. There is a much more believable reason closer to hand: Live theater doesn't permit multiple takes when lines are flubbed. I'd believe that before I'd buy into her BS about some silly "fourth wall."

    Don't blame her.

only the uber-talented performers are able to do live theater and do it well
she's good- but she's not that good
same with Jennifer Aniston- most of them
with sometimes 30+ takes and a really great editor (taking hours to sort through them all in order to find the one that is right for the movie) when we see them in movies we think that they can act
    that isn't acting really
no fluidity or even continuity of developing the character before our eyes since scenes aren't even shot in order
someone like Maryl Streep would kill on Bradway! she's on par with the likes of Lawrence Olivier in the talent department

and for those wanting money- Broadway pays next to nothing- especially in comparison to movies
you are on stage 8 times a week and for the entire play usually
stars like Hugh Jackman, Bernadette Peters etc. are true actors in every sense of the word

She knows she's not a trained actress. I think she knows her limitations. But, I believe the whole "stage fright" excuse as much as I believed her when she said she knew NO English when she came to the U.S as a model and learned English from watching TV. OK, sure.

The best actors do theater, period, since it is way harder than performing for movies or series. There you don't have the chance to do the same line 30 times.

Gee, who can afford theater? Last time I went to Hollywood was a LONG time ago at the Pantages to see Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Last time I went to a theaer was over in Torrance at Palos Verdes Playhouse, the folks put on a great show, it was a murder mystery spoof English based and I laughed all the way through, cost was about a$15 or $20 plus dinner after.

Congrats to someone who knows her limitations. She is excellent at what she does. Also, the most beautiful African-American actress ever.
