Elementary Poster

You've seen Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Watson.

We've even shown you the extended trailer.

Now we bring you the first international poster (above) for Elementary, the American adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective series.

All these clues tell us one thing… if only we could figure out what it was…

Oh wait! It must be that the new crime drama will premiere this fall, and CBS is trying to build hype!

So, is it working? Is everyone's appetite for sleuthing whetted? Are we excited to try on this reboot?

What do you think?

Jonny Lee Miller is a fantastic actor, but I just can't get excited about this. The BBC's Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman just so perfectly nailed modernizing the Sherlock stories than another version just seems superfluous. Not to mention that from what we've seen so far this seems like just another CBS procedural where the main characters happen to be named Holmes and Watson. Nothing seems even slightly derived from the Conan Doyle stories, but the change of setting is really what killed this for me. Sherlock Holmes is to London what Carrie Bradshaw is to New York, the city is practically a character in itself. So yeah, even as a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes I'm going to have to pass on this one.

BASIC.TALENTLESS.PLEASE LEAVE DR WATSON A BLOODY DOCTOR AND NOT A STUPID, VAPID HAS BEEN ACTRESS.
I agree with the previous comment 100%. This is a bastardization that truly HAS NO NEED to exist.

We already had a modern, American version of Sherlock Holmes and it was called House MD. Also, this looks like a crap-fest.

    Cumberbatch&Freeman FTW

I'm trying to be diplomatic about this. Part of me hopes that its good and is successful. Jonny Lee Miller is a great actor and deserves to be known for something else than trainspotting or Mr Angelina Jolie 1. But a bigger part of me believes that this should not exist and wants to see this crash and burn. From what I've seen, it looks like every other crime show on tv and makes me want to shot a wall yelling "BORED!" And don't get me started on casting Lucy Liu as Waston. But I will give it a chance. You've got one episode Elementary. You better deliver.

Lucy Liu in an early filmed interview stated that now with the opposite-sex casting of Watson and Holmes there could be the possibility of romance, in one casual statement encompassing the cruel bigotry that so often demeans same sex couples with the idea that their relationships may be about sex but can never even have the possibility of romance/love.

Imagine for a moment that a male minority had been cast as Watson. Imagine, then, the trailer and early publicity showing, as it did, that Watson has been pointlessly stripped of all the most obvious admirable characteristics from the ACD original stories and almost all adaptations of those stories. War hero, brave companion who rushes forward to meet the action, competent doctor, respected friend chosen and admired by Holmes is now for our minority Watson no military service, a squeal and hidden face at the revelation of a murder victim, the loss of his medical license apparently for competence/ethics reason, an unwanted paid employee. There would have been widespread outrage and disgust.

However, CBS avoided the racism charges by making Watson a female. Now the typical sexist response has been something like, "No problem. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work? A woman with no special character/qualifications of her own running after a strong man to care for his health and clean up his messes?"

All the people in love with the BBC version and its star should just content themselves with it and leave off griping about this American tv program. There seems to be a campaign to destroy Elementary even before it debuts. In other words, mind your own little BBC business in your own little country, and we in the U.S. shall welcome this new CBS made television program. Miller and Liu will be terrific.

Re: Julie – I'm American and I agree with the little people in their little country with their BBC, this is going to be terrible and shouldn't have been made. This is not supposed to be an attack on your self-consciousness or your ideas of American pride (by which you take offense just to appease your insecurities of the Brits doing something better then us). The problem with this is that it has taken away core themes from Sherlock Holmes and turned it into a crappy American crime thriller and had the nerve to call it a Sherlock Holmes reimagining. It isn't. It's so far removed from Sherlock Holmes that they have no right to associate the show with it. It's like some hack coming along and remaking an American Harry Potter but Harry's a girl and isn't a wizard just a magician. It's WRONG. If you want to write a crime thriller about a man and a woman who have a close, perhaps sexual romantic relationship then fine, but don't put it under the Sherlock Holmes banner because it doesn't belong there.

Re: Julie – Bitter much? Also, say what you like about us Brits but you're the ones who keep trying to steal our shows and make terrible copies of them. If you don't want people to complain about you and your dumb hicks taking an iconic British story and twisting it into a piece of shit to suit your own dumb hick needs then how about you let us keep our little BBC shows in our little country and you can come up with something original for a change and not steal ideas from everyone else. Or better yet go roll around in the mud with your pigs and fuck your 10 year old son like you usually do you white trash whore.

I don't think this looks terrible, and Jonny Lee Miller is a fantastic (and, hello, British) actor. Hasn't even aired yet, people. Maybe we can give it a small chance.
