Mariah Carey, Brandy, Monica Give Emotional Tribute To Whitney Houston At BET Awards!
It's been almost five months since Whitney Houston died, but that doesn't mean that her music still doesn't have a soft spot in our hearts.
And not just in our hearts, but in the Shrine Auditorium in El Lay where the entire audience sitting at the BET Awards Sunday night dried their eyes after watching an emotional tribute to the late singer.
Mariah Carey started it off by sharing warm memories of her close friend, which left the singer in tears.
Monica then belted out an emotional rendition of Whitney's gospel tune I Love The Lord, followed by Brandy's rendition of I’m Your Baby Tonight and I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
The most heartbreaking part of the night was when Whitney's mother Cissy Houston performed Bridge Over Troubled Water, which left the entire house in tears, especially Soulja Boy, who just couldn't keep it in . We're right there with ya, buddy….
Watch stars give their last goodbyes to Whitney (above).

Chris Brown Wakes Us Up-Up-Up-Up-UP-Up With BET Award Performance!

Asking Brandy to sing Whitney is just mean. She sounded hoarse.
Brandy was horrific. Seriously, that was horrible.
Why didn't Beyonce sing? She is exactly perfect for many of Whitney songs because of her range.
Lol @ Brandy sounding hoarse. You know absolutely NOTHING about music. Brandy was the highlight of the show. Brandy has one of the best voices in r&b music and there is a reason why the top artists praise her. If you didn't think performance was superb, you are just simply not musically inclined. Brandy was awesome! Monica and Brandy were actually friends of Whitney and were the correct choice for the tribute. Beyonce was not friends with Whitney.
Brandy sounded amazing, and her energy had the crowed up on there feet. It was really good, and I'm finally happy she was able to pay respect to her idol and friend.
Brandy >>>>>
why do people hate; My god get a life
Just because your brother is banging someone, that does not make that person your friend. Just saying…
Re: LouLou – preach it this was the most correct tribute for Whitney Monica and brandy. They truly looooved Whitney
Re: nolachick – Your A dumb ass brandy idolized Whitney growing up Ignorant fuck face. They were friends long before.
Instead of Brandy, MARIAH should have been singing. She is the only singer who has ever rivalled Whitney.
How many tributes does Whitney Houston need? She was a junkie who destroyed her voice. If she hadn't been a junkie, she'd probably be alive today, singing and successful. It had been YEARS since she'd done anything worth listening to, and though I know she did that movie recently, she'd probably have taken the money and used it for drugs. It seems clear that her family has no problem milking her death for all it's worth, but surely the "black community" can find someone more worthy of tribute than a junkie who threw her life away. Whitney Houston is a lousy role model and not worthy of the deification she's received since she died.
maybe its not that brandy ws horrible ( she was in my opinion) maybe she was just out of her element.. anyway she kept me from crying thats agood thing!
Fucking death at the person saying queen b sounded hoarse!! Why is there only haters on this site??? About the performance; woah! Brandy sounded soooo good! I'm proud of her. She was most def the highlight of the show!
Actually the crowd gave Monica a standing O, but kept standing for brandy, did a great job too. Let me say one thing to the idiot who believes Whitney is not worthy of a tribute because of her drug problem. Whitney has created a collection of hits that is so phenomenal that she will forever be remembered for that. There is no other female voice like hers and she will sing circles around any artist black or white, drugs or no drugs.
Wow, such a great tribute. All artists sang brilliantly. Real singers unlike today's so called singers. I was almost crying. 5 months is about the right time for a tribute like this. I'm grateful they did this. Man, the Cissy Houston singing tribute almost had me in tears.
So you mean to tell me ur parents or child had a drug problem and in results od they died u would not honor them or wants others to honor them? THINK ABOUT IT…
Why is the site full of ignorant people along with some who clearly know nothing about the artist. Brandy did AMAZING "hoarse"..wtf?…. brandy was killing it with vocals and a tone that most R&B artists would die for! Perfect for the tribute!
Wth? Why are people criticizing Brandy's performance? Isn't this supposed to be a tribute, something in memory of one of the the greatest if not greatest singers of all time-Whitney Houston. I completely concur with @toyadova and @LouLou. Brandy sounded amazing, she even kinda sounded remiscent of Whitney if you ask me, yes she was hoarse but SHE'S A SINGER! Wth do you expect? When singers use their voice a lot, it will do that. Grow a brain people, seriously. Secondly, I don't know how anyone could say bad things about Whitney. Yes she may have made some mistakes in the past but her outstanding accomplishments OVERSHADOW that by far! There will NEVER be another like her. NEVER! This generation is seriously lacking good vocalists like her, Brandy, Monica, Melanie Fiona and Mariah Carey. Anywho, back on topic. What a BEAUTIFUL tribute. Monica, Brandy, Cissy Houston & Chaka Khan did a phenomenal job.
This was the Whitney tribute I've been waiting for!! With people she was actually close to. And everyone did a great job. My fav was Brandy. Her note placement and performance was soooo on point. And for the ignorant person that doesn't know, Brandy's connection to Whitney dates way back before whatever you THINK was goin on between her brother and Whitney. Whitney was her idol, mentor, and they worked together on Cinderella. Geez. RIP Whitney. And way to go ladies (and gentleman) for an awesome tribute to an icon.
I really don't like clicking onto the next page and being forced to listen to this without clicking the "play" button. Don't like being force-fed videos I have no interest in.
its so sad that people pays more tribute to crack heads like whitney and less to the real heroes and troops
I like how this tribute opened up with Mariah Carey talking about Whitney. Mariah said everything perfectly and ended it very sad, everyone was in tears. It was nice to see a legend talking about another legend. Mariah was defiently the right choice to do so. Cissy Houston is one strong lady to go out there and sing infront of everyone. I give her alot of credit and for he age she did awesome.
Re: MClamb327 –
I agree with you!!!!
How many more TRIBUTES is this woman going to get? Jeez!
Re: Will Iam – Brandy met Whitney Houston when she was 16 years old. They developed a close relationship ever since. Don't even bring Ray J into this.
note to performers (Rihanna, Cheryl cole) out there: it IS possible to sing live and dance, Brandy does it old skool baby..
