We were stoked to see Will and Jaden Smith working together again on the set of M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth, but were relatively clueless as to what it was about.
Sure, we knew the father-son duo crash landed on Earth in the year 3012 and had to struggle for survival or something, but what else? WHAT ELSE!?
Well, thanks to the upcoming panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, we know! An official plot synopsis has been released, so here it is:
“In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.”
It sounds like Jaden is the main character here and his dad will be stuck in the cockpit of a crashed spaceship the entire movie.
Not what we expected, but not bad either!
We're excited to see the Smiths light up the screen and are crossing our fingers that Shyamalan doesn't pull a Lady In The Water.
