Gay Couple Arrested In Dallas After Same-Sex Marriage Protest

Same sex couple arrested in dallas for marriage protest

We're SO proud of these two brave men for standing up, not only for what they believe in, but for what is undeniably RIGHT!

Texas residents Mark Jiminez and Beau Chandler marched into a Dallas County clerk's office to request a marriage license on Independence Day. After they were inevitably denied (thanks to unfair laws plaguing Texas and plenty of other states), the couple handcuffed their arms together and sat down in protest of the state's 2005 decision to ban gay marriage.

Both were eventually removed by the police department, but their message was heard loud and clear — equality for all!

Since marriage isn't an option in Texas, Beau Chandler is reportedly in the process of legally changing his last name to Jiminez.

That still doesn't give them the rights and privileges that married heterosexual couples enjoy. However, we have full faith that this couple and every other same-sex couple will be getting those rights in the future because, like it or not, CHANGE is coming!!!

Get the facts straight….they went in on July 5th. Anyone in the USA knows that the majority, if not all, of government offices are closed on the 4th of July.

Not reporting the exact facts looses one's credibility.

  3. 3

good for them. think about what would happen if EVERYONE took a stand? one day this DISCRIMINATORY ban will be a blight on our history, and will eventually be abolished.

    CC

  4. 4

No state offices are open on July 4th. Good grief.

  5. 5

lying sack of shit PEEREX. I think if you do a minimal amount of real research you would find that the county clerk's office was closed on 7-4. so your reporting is as usual FULL OF SHIT.

  6. 6

Straights know that the offices are closed on July 4th.

  7. 7

I can't believe that the gay supporters who have responded here aren't smart enough to figure out that Perez is totally full of shit because no government offices are open on July 4th. Ass lickers can't think for themselves, huh? No surprise. Perez, stop making shit up just so you can post about gayness.

He might have been wrong about the date, but it did happen. I'm in Dallas and it was on our local news last night.

Re: Lady Who? – By the way…GAGA continues to sell out multiple concerts in the same city all over the globe…she will do the same here in the US when she arrives…So, your "lady who" continues to be baseless and factless…idiot.

  11. 11

It's obvious you're lying. Government offices aren't open on the fourth of July. Did you make up the entire story? Do these two even exist?

Good for Texas. More states need to adopt this policy and refuse these degenerates from marrying. I will agree on one thing though, change is coming and it's not what you're looking for Perez.. (YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!)

Re: Tina92 – Yeah change is coming.. and you're not going to like the results. Keep on fighting? Believe me I will.. but you'd just call me a bully.

Today, in London, we are celebrating World Pride day. We've celebrated how far the gay movement has come. It seems so sad that some (so called 'developed') countries can be so backward thinking. Still so much to fight for. Good luck to these guys.

Gay couple Mark “Major” Jiminez and Beau Chandler were arrested at the Dallas County Clerk’s Office on Thursday afternoon, July 5, after they were denied a marriage license and refused to leave.
The couple entered the County Records Building at about 3 p.m. with friends, TV crews and friendly police in tow.
Sr. Cpl. Laura Martin, LGBT liaison officer for the Dallas Police Department, accompanied the group, even though she didn’t have direct jurisdiction since they were in a county building. Lt. Shelley Knight, LGBT liaison for the sheriff’s department, also followed the couple.
“They’re the nicest couple,” Martin said of Chandler and Jiminez. “They’re the first guys after any protest to come up and thank the officers.”
Clerk’s assistant Melinda Saavedra called Jiminez and Chandler and asked for their IDs. She checked to make sure one wasn’t there as a proxy.
“We pointed out subsection B that invalidates all marriages,” Chandler said. He was referring to the constitutional amendment that bans same-sex marriage in Texas. “She got teary-eyed when I said we love each other and want to get married.”
Jiminez spoke on camera to TV news outlets explaining some of the more than 1,000 rights straight couples enjoy that are denied to gay and lesbian couples.
They were placed in separate squad cars and taken to Lew Sterrett for processing as their friends and supporters lined the sidewalk and applauded.

Perez got the date wrong - it was the Fifth, not the Fourth - but everything else is legit. The incredible direct action organization GetEQUAL ( ) and their passionate Texas state chapter GetEQUAL TX ( ) were asked by Major and Beau to help them create the protest. It received press and television coverage in Dallas, throughout Texas and nationally… was even covered by the LGBT press in London during World Pride Day.
Ten gallon cowboy hats off saluting the men for their courage!!!

Thank you all for the kind words and support. We will continue the battle on 8/02 at our courtdate. The people united cannot be defeated.

If you want to get married legally as gays, fly to New York where it is legal. I do not think it will happen in Texas for a long time. Spent a lot of time there on business with my husband and they are very conservative.

  21. 21

texans are backwards .. the world is moving on without u

let these guys have equal rights NOW

I was in Tokyo 3 days after Lady Gaga was there, and only 300 people showed at her concert…then the "too nasty for the government" cancellations started happening. Got it? She is over.

  23. 23

Re: perez posse member 777 – Whoa, not all of us here in Texas are backwards. I think everyone should be able to get married no matter what there gender. It's the government officals that stop it, not the people. Stop blaming everyone in the state, dude. Not all Texans are hicks, remember that.
