Brad Pitt's Bro Defends His Mom's Anti-Gay Opinions On Today

| Filed under: TV NewsGay Gay GayBrad PittPolitik

Brad Pitt's mommy dearest made headlines last week after making her not-so-accepting views of the LGBT community known. In case you missed it, she wrote a letter to her local newspaper which encouraged readers to vote for Mitt Romney because of his opposition to same-sex marriage.

Obvi, we weren't thrilled and since Brad is a major supporter of equality, we bet he wasn't either. However, the woman is a faithful conservative Christian and we all know how hard it can be to shake some sense into that crowd.

We have our beliefs, they have theirs, but we wish we could all compromise when it comes to treating every human being with fairness.

Either way, Brad describes his mother, Jane, as a "very, very loving — very open, genuine" woman who "wants everyone to be happy." His brother, Doug, seems to agree and defended her right to express her views in the manner she did.

While sitting down with Matt Lauer on The Today Show to discuss his Virgin Mobile viral video, the Missouri businessman casually commented his mother's controversial statement.

He not only points out (above) that "moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world," but that "there can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you."

This is true and we LOVE to discuss the importance of LGBT rights because that's the only way there will be any progress on the issue.

Having healthy discussions is how enlightenment works. Sometimes we feel like we're wasting our breath because there are those people that will reject it at all cost, but most people will come around once they are presented with a logical argument.

We believe Mrs. Pitt is everything her sons say she is, so we have full faith that she will eventually open her "very loving" mind to the idea of same-sex marriage and equality for all.

Nice interview. He is right about not always agreeing with our parents. They come from a different generation, and it is very difficult to change ideas that have been in your mind for 50 years. But hopefully, she will come to understand that gays getting married is no threat to her, or to society. People like Kim Kardashian, who marry for attention, undermine marriage much more that 2 same sex people who actually love each other ever could.

While I disagree with Mrs. Pitt's statement. Healthy discussion on the other hand does not mean talking someone to death until they agree with your point of view. I can understand her points without agreeing with them. You should just accept that there are always going to be people in the world who have something against someone for some stupid reason be it race, gender, religion, sexuality, weight, economic status, political affiliation, color of hair, or whatever.

You can only talk to these people for so long before agreeing to disagree. Their beliefs are their beliefs, and yours are yours.

  3. 3

Agreed…..we are all entitled to our views. That's what makes our country great. We can all say what we feel without the gestapo at our doorstep. I read an article about a gay conservative group that is endorsing Mitt Romney. Love it. I sent it to you Perez…..why didn't you post it?

  4. 4

Oh my gosh, I LOVE him!! He is sooooo sweet! Hope we continue to see more of him and wish the interview wasn't ending so quickly when he got to talking about his charity!

There are different points of view on the topic of homosexuality, and just because you disagree with them Perez doesn't make them wrong. I believe that homosexual sex is unnatural; I don't support gay marriage. I do not, however, hate gays. I have a live-and-let-live policy, and I mind my own business. Being opposed to gay marriage is not about feeling threatened, and anyone who thinks that's the case needs to shut up until they KNOW what the issues are, and they're not that complicated. You whine about not being understood, and then fail to understand what an opposing viewpoint is about. I applaud Brad Pitt's mother for expressing herself; she is entitled to think what she thinks and to feel what she feels. That YOU disagree is a given. But YOUR disagreement does NOT make her thoughts and feelings wrong.
    .
Re: rosebud99 – I am of Pitt's generation, and am not religious. But I do not support homosexual sex or gay marriage. It's not a generational issue. It's a matter of personal perspective. It's too bad that you have to marginalize it, but maybe that's the only way you know how to deal with someone who disagrees with you. When your opinions are marginalized, you have no right to complain. Do unto others, yes? You don't need religion to understand that.

Doug is right that parents and children disagree all the time. While both of my parents are strong democrats, they're not as liberal as I am and if I have children, they may grow up to be even more liberal than me. I would just want to instill in them to respect and love those who are different than yourself because just because someone is different, it doesn't make them better or worse.

I am a bit curious as how a woman who is so conservatively Christian feels about her son living and fathering children, out of wedlock, with a woman who has had lesbian relationships in the past. The strange thing is I distinctly remember Brad's mother telling Billy Bush on Access Hollywood that she just wanted Brad and Angelina to be happy when he asked if she wanted them to get married. I don't see how a Christian can preach against gay marriage yet ignore fornication. It's been a while since I have cracked open a bible, but I could've sworn that they were both sins.

  7. 7

Doug's much better looking than his brother Brad.

Anyway, how rude of you to Perez to say, "the woman is a faithful conservative Christian and we all know how hard it can be to shake some sense into that crowd". As if to say that her views are senseless? She's a product of her time, her faith and her upbringing so to slam her religious beliefs is beyond intolerant. You should be ashamed of yourself.

  8. 8

Re: KarrieBelle – I'm sure Brad's mom believes that he's made some "sinful" choices; but that doesn't mean she wishes her son to burn in the depths of hell for all eternity. He's a grown man and makes his own decisions, so she probably is of the mind that "I did my best in raising him, he makes choices that I don't agree with but I love him and wish he's healthy & happy".

  9. 9

Re: Yes You Bore Me – I am not sure what you mean by 'marginalize'. I don't have issues with people who disagree with me, in fact I love a healthy discussion, and I am the first to admit that I am wrong, or that I am missing a perspective. But when it comes to gay marriage, despite all the discussion about it, I find that those opposed have yet to provide an argument that is sustainable. And there is a big difference between not believing in something yourself, and wanting to legislate it so that no one else is permitted to act against your beliefs. It is discrimination. And just saying it is a difference of opinion does not make any less discriminatory. These arguments have yet to convince me that discrimination is not hateful.

Hey now! Not ALL of us Christians need sense shaken into us! I for one am ALL for equality and believe in a God who loves each and every one of us, no matter the lifestyle we choose!

  11. 11

Re: KarrieBelle – I'm sure his mom was disappointed with Brad when he got into a relationship and had children out of marriage. But the grandchildren are part of her, what's she going to do? Hate them for their parent's choices. She can be disappointed and not agree with the kids being born out of wedlock but it's already done.
Brad and her obviously disagree on quite a few things. It doesn't make her a bad Christian mother who failed to raise her kid properly. It makes them humans with their own free will to have their own opinions and live their lives how they want.
And I'm sure she didn't ignore their fornication, she just hasn't revealed all her feelings on the matter to the media. And I wouldn't either, her grandchildren would always know how their grandma felt about their birth. Some things are better kept in private, not splashed all over magazines. Who knows what she tells them in private? She might tell them everyday to get married, attend church, change their ways, etc., or maybe not. Who cares, her life, her opinions.

I diagree with gay marriage. I am not anti-gay or homophobic. According to a washington post article most americans are not in favor of gay marriage.

Call it a union, but marriage started out as religious instution between a MAN and WOMEN. Leave the word marriage out of it, let them have the same rights as married couples. COMPROMISE.

  15. 15

Perez, you're such a tool. In a previous post you backhandedly label Mrs Pitt and other people with religious convictions as bigots. Now you're all - "We believe Mrs. Pitt is everything her sons say she is". Like, oh she's a nice old lady with two charming sons…..we know she'll come around one day. Which is it Perez? Is she a hate-filled bigot or or some uninformed old lady who'll change her views once she get's brought up to speed?

Why is it that opposition due to religion isn't a good enough argument? Re: rosebud99

Re: Evelyn – agree with you Evelyn!

  17. 17

Re: sick_girl – I never said anything about her gating her grandchildren. What I said was how is she so passionate about opposing gay marriage yet comfortable with her son "living in sin"? A sin is a sin, right? And it's not just Joan, or Brad for that matter, we're all "sinners", but let people who are against gay marriage tell it, you get a pass on everything else EXCEPT having sex with someone of the same gender.

Re: Yes You Bore Me – To be frank, there are a lot of heterosexual people who practice in anal sex and it seems "unnatural" to me too

  18. 18

Re: Yes You Bore Me – The fact is that you saying something isn't for you is different then wanting to have legislation to prevent it for others. I could almost understand those who are opposed to gay marriage because of their "morals" or religion over you who simply want it outlawed because you don't like it. Really?

  19. 19

Re: Sweetie! – Sure… and 40 % of Americans believe God created the Earth 10,000 years ago. (And many thousands beleive in a flat Earth.)

  20. 20

Re: KarrieBelle – Who said she is comfortable with her son living in sin? She's probably not. Nobody but them knows what she says in private. Like I said, she might be trying to convince them everyday to chance their ways. Nobody knows. The only thing she has said is she wants them to be happy. I don't think she would go off to a reporter how much she wishes her son would stop being such a sinner and that all her grandkids are a bunch of unpure bastards. She just said she wants them to be happy, like any mother would.
And most Christians do not "give a pass on everything but gay marriage". It's just something the media is talking a lot about right now so we are hearing a lot of opinions on it. It's not like adultery, murder, fornication, etc., all have a free pass now.

  21. 21

Re: Yes You Bore Me – So maybe you need to share your knowledge about what the issue is, instead of telling people to shut up. As I view it, marriage is a legal state of being in our society. Religion is not a required part of being married. He issue is what legitimate government interest is served by denying gay couples the same rights and privileges available to straight couple? We have intentionally discarded former traditional values that lasted hundreds and 1000s of years (like women not voting, having segregated drinking fountains and schools, not allowing racially-mixed marriages) because we decided that traditions based on prejudice, fear, or a sense of entitlement by the ruloing class were not appropriate. And none of these were subject to a popular vote. All were done by judges or legislatures. And with 41% of children being born outside of marriage in the US (2009), there is no legitimate argument about wanting to preserve tha family unit. Becasue we do nothing to stop that, much less to make divorce more difficult to obtain. So just what do you think are the issues? I am yet to find any real legitmate issues to warrant the denial of rights.

  22. 22

Re: FrankieLA – Go Frankie! I am in the same boat as you. I have yet to hear a logical argument against gay marriage. And I am sick of people pretending that it is not discrimination. Yes, people have a right to their opinions, but if your opinion is discriminatory, don't sugar coat it, own it.

  23. 23

The thought that it's simply okay to just agree to disagree while, meanwhile, peoples rights are at stake makes no sense to me. How do people view it so simply?

Jane Pitt has every right to voice her bigotry, but it is equally our right, and even our duty, as a society to tell people when their bigoted views are no longer tolerable. If this woman had said that she doesn't like black people, this country would have her head on a spear, but because she is trying to keep rights from gay people instead of blacks, she is entitled to her own opinion. Bigotry is bigotry, no matter who it is against. What an ugly notion this woman took, publicly, and I hope she is held accountable for the ugly words she said.

Re: Yes You Bore Me – I am so tired of people saying they are against "gay sex" because of the anal factor. Guess what? I know plenty of straight women who love it up their butts (and believe me I know plenty of men who wish/want their girlfriends/wives to take it up the butt. Get a new excuse

  25. 25

I'm so tired of seeing people on this site commenting on how they are against gay marriage but are not bigots. If you are actively going out and voting against the rights of other citizens in this country, you are a bigot. It's that simple. Like Re: rosebud99 – says, own up to your opinion. But please don't vote against my rights and actually attempt to comfort yourself by telling yourself you are not a bigot.

Re: Sweetie! – If you disagree with gay marriage that IS discrimination. You are discriminating against a group of people because they are different than you. It's just that simple. Just look at the white supremacists back in the 1960's claiming they were not racists.
Re: blondeegirl – We need more Christians like you who believe what Jesus taught! Thank you for your kindness, rationality, and compassion.

Re: Yes You Bore Me – If you really were 'minding your own business' and 'live and let live' you wouldn't be actively going out and voting against/preaching against the rights of homosexuals.

  31. bob says – reply to this

    31

You aren't willing to comprimise and you aren't willing to 'open your mind' to the fact that other people, millions of people don't believe that being gay is a natural thing. How about you open your mind to the fact that there are other people out there who don't believe what you believe, just like what you say. It isn't fair AT ALL for people to tell tons of people ' you have to change your views for ours, even though it's in regards to a minority' or else we will cry about it all day and night long until we get our way.

  32. 32

  33. 33

Re: bob – I've never seem so many inaccuracies and errors in judgement from one post. We just want the same rights as everyone else. Not special, same. How is that asking too much? The only 'compromise' taking place here is when people like you assume it's a compromise when we agree to disagree, but in the meantime, I still don't have the same rights as everyone else.
People like you need to stop dragging the bible into arguments like these. On one hand, you say that the bible is off limits and it's disrespectful to question it during an argument, but then here you are dragging it in to the fray and using it to justify discrimination. Modern Christians have proven time and time again that it is possible to live a moral, christian lifestyle while being respectful and compassionate human beings without resorting to bigotry. There are many things in the bible which you yourself disobey on a daily basis that were also called sins. I'm sure I don't have to list them here, you've heard it all before. My point is, if you are going to be a bigot and stand for the discrimination of millions of people in this country, do so on your own accord, but using the bible to justify it is no longer valid. If you really knew the bible, you would realize how ashamed Jesus would be if he saw all of the discrimination people make in his name. My advice to you is to go out, get an original opinion, an original thought, and a heart.

why do christians think they have a 'right' to bash on gays they have no more right to that than any other minority group in the world but they continue to think they have a 'right ' to do so NEWS FLASH u dont ur not god and u dont get to judge the 'rights of others'

Re: KarrieBelle – Ok, then please do not breed.

  42. 42

Re: KarrieBelle – In that case please do not breed. We have enough far left liberals taking away our 2nd amendment, or right to free speech under the guise of it being a hate speech, etc. Don't need any more libtards in this nation.

Re: joethehobo – Technically, no one is voting "against" gay marriage. It's an irrelevant issue. If some really smart guy was running for president and I know he knew how to run a country, and he just happened to not be fond of gays, I would vote him in…because having a good president that will stop this war, stop the war on drugs, fix our debt, fix our healthcare, fix our food and gas prices is a bigger priority to me than an irrelevant minority with their irrelevant problem (marriage). Fact of the matter is rather you want to accept it or not is gays are a silly irrelevant minority. You're not special. MARRIAGE is an irrelevant low priority problem even when it comes to two straight people, so a minority of people? Right. Called priories. How dare you gays be so damn selfish you just want "me me me" time while ignoring much bigger, more important, more problematic problems thats been around a whole hell of a lot longer than gays being able to marry.

  43. 43

Re: bob – Finally, someone with some sense..Gays constantly say people are intolerant, but yet they force us to accept them. With wide open arms. Not only is religion against gays, but so is science. Being gay is nothing more than a biological screw up. Nothing more, nothing less. No difference than a heart defect, missing limbs, or mental retardation. Gays seem to think this is a one way street. ACCEPT THEM OR ELSE! Just sit down, stfu and accept not all people like gays, no matter how irrational their beliefs are. Hell, I don't like blonde haired blue eyed girls. Nothing people say will get me to change that.

  44. 44

Re: NookiesWA – Apparently the only one retarded is you. As people have stated many times in this thread, no one cares what others like or don't like. However, disliking someone is very different than creating legislation to prevent them from having the same rights as everyone else. So your dumbass argument about not liking blondes with blue eyes is ridiculous because at the end of the day, no one is denying a civil right to someone because they have blonde hair and blue eyes. So follow your own advice and DON'T BREED! We don't need anymore stupid people on this planet. As a matter of fact, don't even get a goldfish!

  45. 45

Re: FrankieLA – How stupid can you really be? I mean c'mon! 4 out of 5 people searching this site HATE perez and want him to go back to hell. We come to the site to get the hate back! It's fun to hate this piece of shit! Frankie, you are absolutely pathetic for attempting to defend this trash. Gay?

  46. 46

Re: NookiesWA – I don't care if I'm accepted. I don't care if I'm welcomed with open arms by society. All I care about is that ON PAPER I have the same rights as everyone else in this country. I pay taxes. I go to work. I am a productive member of this country. All I ask for is the same rights as everyone else. Now that won't get in the way of the budget crisis, or the war, or the gas prices. It won't swallow up air time from the more important issues. To an extent, I agree with you. Why is this country wasting so much time on the gay rights issue when we could be dealing with the more important ones? Just give gay people the same rights as everyone else, and we will stop bugging you. That's all we want, and luckily, unlike all of the other things going on in our country we need to fix, this one doesn't cause anyone any harm and there are NO disadvantages. It's an easy fix, so why not just do it already?
