Controversial Princess Diana Documentary Has Been Squashed

Princess Diana documentary axed

We bet the Royal Family is breathing a sigh of relief upon hearing this news.

A documentary that investigated a possible cover-up of Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed's 1997 death has been permanently shelved just weeks before it was set to hit theaters.

Unlawful Killing was produced by Al-Fayed's billionaire father and purchased by distributors at the Cannes Film Festival last year. Controversy surrounds the flick because it paints a negative picture of Prince Charles' family by alleging a Royal cover-up and conspiracy to keep key facts from the media.

While we're sure the world would have been slightly intrigued to see what dirt director Keith Allen dug up, the film's distributors required global insurance coverage to protect themselves from lawsuits, which they were unable to secure in the U.K. and France. As a result, producers have decided that the film is unreleasable and have said in a statement:

"It became undoable. We are all disappointed. We worked on Unlawful Killing for four years. We've written back to all of the distributors and are returning their minimum guarantees. We're doing the decent thing."

At least we still have Diana, a biopic starring Naomi Watts, to look forward to.

Would U have liked to see Unlawful Killing or is the world better off without it?

Diana is dead; let her just rest. As for the Watts movie, it's gonna be total crap. She is a lousy actress as it is. She will never do a convincing portrayal of Diana Spencer.

I disagree. I would have liked to see the documentary because we were never provided with real facts about what happened that year and as most I am obsessed with the royal family so that may be having an effect on my perspective. I also look forward to seeing Diana. Princess Di was am amazing role model and it will be nice to have a timeless way to capture her impact and presence in the film– hoping the film is successful at it anyways.

Poor Kate, she has no idea what the Wicked Witch of Buckingham Palace has in store for her demise; just like she had done to Prince William's Knocked-Up Muslim-Loving Whore of a Mother Diana…

Language, Okra - do not know why people on this site have to curse so much. Most of you took English in high school (and hopefully college), surely you can find another word to use.

I guess people in the UK do not have rights..LOL it makes it look even more sketchy and makes the royals look even worse by blocking anything that could paint them in a bad light..LOL
