Snooki, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert… All Will Be Taken Away At Midnight!

Welp! This is it, guys! It's 2012… and the world really is ending!

Viacom wants a 30% fee increase from DirecTV, but DirecTV says that's more than a billion dollars they don't wanna slap on their customers' bills.

Since they can't reach an agreement, channels like MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, BET, and Nickelodeon will (most likely) be yanked from DirecTV customers at midnight… TONIGHT!

DirecTV addresses the looming death of fun in its customers' households on their website:

"Unfortunately, Viacom sent a letter to our executives forcing us to take the channels away in order to gain leverage against us in negotiations, but we hope they wouldn’t do that to their DirecTV viewers."

Meanwhile, Viacom simultaneously laments:

"DirecTV has rejected all of our proposals to renew our agreement."

Booo!!!!

Over a billion dollar increase is a bit much, no?

Wonder what the advertisers are gonna say when they realize their message isn't being sent to half their audience!

Just more corporate greed. When are people going to stand up and say WE ARE PAYING TOO MUCH ALREADY? Until people fight back this shit will continue to happen. TV is a thing of the past and most TV sucks yet they want you to pay a god damn fortune for it.

Re: Pacific Ocean Gal – Very true. As it is, our DirecTV bill is already close to $130 monthly and I know people who may more, but I don't want to be one of them. However, I love my Daily Show and Colbert Report. Two of the few shows that are automatically set to record on my dvr. They can keep Snooki!

I think our Directv bill is already $180/mo. I don't care about MTV at all…but do watch the others. I know it costs money to make shows & run the station, but this is getting ridiculous. I wonder how many people they expect to pay for the extra billion dollars?

Re: KarrieBelle – Honestly, my husband and I cut our cable out completely and just have Netflix and Hulu through our PS3. Our cable bill is now $16 a month. Best. Thing. Ever.

AMC did the same thing to DISH. AMC wanted to jack up the price making DISH pay even more, so when DISH told them to go F themselves AMC started a vendetta out against DISH, telling AMC fans to basically spam the shit out of DISH. Funny enough most people were morons and were blaming dish, simply because AMC said so..But what they did not know was it was AMC's fault for being greedy.

I recently had to downgrade my Directv to the Family Plan so I do not get a lot of these channels other than Nicolodeon which I don't watch. Seldom watch TV but since I live in an apartment and do not have an antenna, have to have some kind of TV access for the rare occasions I do want to watch (Oscars, etc.). My plan is now $35/mo vs almost $70.
