Miley Cyrus' LOL Flick Can't Be Tamed In Europe!

| Filed under: Demi MooreFilm FlickersMiley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus LOL Overseas

Miley Cyrus’ recent film LOL may not have been a Party In The USA for the singer/actress, but it seems it was a hit elsewhere in the world!

The flick, starring Miley and Demi Moore, made only $46,500 in the States during its opening weekend in early May…and wasn’t even screened for critics!

However, it seems the coming-of-age movie faired far better over in Europe, in countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, where it's been reported as a MASSIVE success!

Very interesting indeed!

In Scandinavia, LOL grossed $1.6 million, which is a pretty big deal for such small countries, and theaters are STILL screening it!

Our source tells us that Miley has a “very large and loyal” fan base over in Scandinavia and that the film’s “European feel” probably also helped contribute to its success!

See, Mileybird — it wasn't a complete flop!! YAY!

I live in Denmark and I have never heard of this movie. No trailers, no posters, no advertisements, nothing at all…

Scandinavian countries are small?! REALLY BITCH, REALLY? You americans are so stupid sometimes. If USA wasn't united you would have 50 small countries. So next time think a little, if you are capable!

I'm surprised about this. I live in Norway and, like Andersen81, I've never heard about this movie. If the movie has made so much money here it's just because a ticket to the movies is effing expensive, so it's not a big deal.

This LOL movie is based on the french LOL movie - practically the same but an american version!

Re: getabrain – Scandinavian countries are small if you look at the population (Finland 5,4 million, Sweden a good 9 million..) but yeah I do agree on the "americans are so stupid sometimes" part :D

I'd say that big part of why the movie did better in Europe is that Europeans aren't so strict about underage drinking, having sex at a young age and other things that occur in the movie.

I'm surprised too. Here in Norway, like in Denmark, there haven't been any posters, trailers, or any advertisement of the movie at all. And the reviews of the movie has been bad. So I don't know where you get your numbers from.

I live in Denmark and I've seen it!
There's trailers all the time on the Danish MTV, and also on websites.
And sooo many of my friends have seen it.

Almost everyone in the round the age 15 in Sweden knows what it is, so i don't know, maybe they just doesn't advertise it in norway & denmark very good, or you're just to "old" to pay attention to that kind of movie.

"and theaters are STILL screening it!" maybe because it premiered about a month ago in Sweden ;p

  12. 12

I'm from Sweden, and there are no signs of it…?

This is Perez's way now for some reason. He tried to claim that Rihanna's movie Battleship was a huge hit worldwide (in places like the UK and Australia) after it received less than favourable reviews following the U.S opening. At the time, the movie hadn't even broke even, so don't know where he gets these ideas from. I'm Aussie and it was shit here too. But then, stereotypes are seeded in reality, and the stereotype around the world is that Americans are stupid (as well as fat and arrogant :) )

  14. 14

The original French version of that film LOL is not even 3 years old and it was shown almost worldwide… that version was made purely for the US. Should stay there!

THE MOVIE IS ACTUALLY VERY GOOD, THE ONLY WRONG IS PRACTICALLY NO PUBLICITY AND SUPPORT FROM LIONGATE,SO IT GOT PEOPLE INTO THINKING THAT THE MOVIE IS NOT GOOD.BUT IS , IN REALITY IT HAS A GOOD STORY WITH A LOAN OF LESSONS. SO NEXT NEXT TIME MRS TISH CYRUS WHEN YOU MAKE MOVIE FOR MILEY, DONT LET LIONGATE COMPANY GET HOLD OF MILEY'S MOVIE FOR DISTRIBUTION BECAUSE LIONGATE IS AVERY MONEY ORIENTED COMPANY AND NOT WHAT THE QUALITY OF A MOVIE AND THE GOOD LESSSONS IT WILL SERVE TO YOUNG AS WILL THE OLDER GENERATION. GOOD BLESSINGS NEXT TIME FOR ANY MOVIE OF "LOL" MAGNITUDE MUCH BETTER THAN WARFREAK MOVIES WITH A DANGEROUS LESSONS TO CHILDREN…

Re: tiakidddd – probably to you the are small, but to me they arren't because I live in Croatia and our population is like 4 million. :)

Well i live in finland(capital city: Helsinki) and yes it is showing, but i gotta admit too low promotion, like no posters nowhere, so i guess thats the reason why it didnt get that much money… and that wasnt a huge hit here either, but 1,6 from 5countries(norway,island,denmark,finland,sweden) isnt that much, becides i guess the tickets has higher prices here than USA

  19. 19

In Norway one movie ticket costs about 100 NOK (ca 16 Dollars) meaning that if the price is somewhat the same in Finland, Sweden and Denmark then only 16 000 people have seen it (+ people that probably went to see it more than once like one of my friends did) so not really that much, it only got so much because of the ticket prices like some people above me said.

OMG this is amazing! I Live in Sweden and I saw her movie in Gothenburg in a crowded cinema, and I absolutely loved the movie. I really hope she'll come to Sweden soon tho' I know she has a lot of diehard-fans here. Peace!

    21

Just wanted to say that I see LOL-movie posters everywhere in Gothenburg, Stockholm, and a bunch of other smaller cities, so I don't know where these people who haven's seen those posters have actually been ;) Anyway, the movie is great, you should give it a chance!

    Because of:
    - Shitty weather (in Norway)
    - Expensive tickets, as mentioned. You don't need as many people watching it to get ok earnings.
    - No recession, so we can afford to go to the movies :p
