A paramedic flying in on a helicopter to rescue a hiker with a broken leg needed his own paramedic when one of the helicopter blades hit him in the head!
What's lucky about that? It turns out, the guy with the broken leg was a doctor!
The hiker-turned hero, Dr. Jeremy Kilburn, explained that after the landing, he knew something was wrong. He says:
"You could just tell, because I’m watching them, that something’s gone horribly wrong. My best friend comes running up the hill with an ashen look on his face and says, ‘Dude, the rotor just hit this guy. I think he’s dead."
So the dude with the broken leg
walked hobbled 100 yards to the chopper to rescue his rescuer!
Once he got to the unconscious paramedic Kilburn went straight to work. The doctor explains:
"He wasn’t breathing very well and there were periods he wasn’t breathing at all, and I was ready to start putting a tracheal tube down his airway when he started coughing and moving his hands."
The doctor, pilot and paramedic then took off for the hospital.
If it wasn't for the injured Doc, the rescuer would have never made it out alive. Then again, he wouldn't have even been there if it wasn't for him! LOLZ!
We'll call him a hero anyway!
