Target: We Will NOT Carry Frank Ocean's New CD, And It's Not Because He's Gay

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayMusic MinuteBusiness BlitzFrank Ocean

Frank Ocean target

When Frank Ocean came out he was flooded with support.

But you will NOT see Target in line to give him highfives!

The chain has refused to sell his new album Channel Orange. The bullseye's people swear the decision has nothing to do with the artist's sexuality, and claim the Ocean-free shelves resulted from a "policy issue."

In a statement, the superstore says:

"We focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, so our selection of new releases is dedicated to physical CDs rather than titles that are released digitally in advance of the street date."

Meaning, since Ocean's CD was released on iTunes before they could sell it on shelves, they didn't want to sell it at all.

That kinda makes sense… if that was actually their policy!

Target has sold many CDs — including Owl City's second album — off their shelves even though they were available on iTunes a before physical copies were released.

Hmmmm……

Yep. There's def something fishy about this Ocean situation!

Target was one of the first to offer health insurance coverage to the "partners" of gay employees. Target isn't obligated to pander to your special interest. If they choose to not carry the guy's album, you are irresponsible to turn it into a gay issue unless you have evidence that they're deliberately rejecting it for that reason. But you didn't actually research or write this; you copied it like you copy everything.

    He is so sexy.

Frank Ocean is not gay. He clearly said that he was in love with a man and has had relationships with women. Last time I checked that made him bisexual. Biphobia is not cool. Stop saying that he's gay.

Perez, this is pure fear-mongering and rabble rousing. Target has done NOTHING to show that they discriminate against the gay community and this is no exception. I'm tired of seeing you alienate people/entities against the gay community who are simply not deserving of it. This gay vs straights position you seem to have taken helps no one and it is turning into a witch hunt. Unless Target does something explicitly homophobic or discriminatory then sit back and relax. It is your responsibility as a journalist, no matter how frivolous people may think this site is, to present real information. Posts like these prove why you are more of a liability for the gay community than a role model.

I love when Perez thinks he know everything before he posts LOL
Makes the story that much more stupid! HA

You are ridiculous! They sell plenty of artist's music at Target that are gay, not to mention designers.

Target is the best! Target sells K.D.Lang, Elton John, RIcky Martin, Glee, Freddie Mercury etc. etc…..Just because there was a problem with one gay artist's CD being sold at Target does not make Target anti-gay!!!!!!!! Stop being so sensitive. IT'S NOT ABOUT GAY

A manager for R&B singer Frank Ocean, who publicly came out of the closet last week, apologized to retail giant Target after suggesting that they would not be selling his clients CD because of his sexual orientation, according to a report from Billboard magazine.

You are basing this theory on what? Because one BISEXUAL man's album isn't going to be offered there. If they were truly against gqy arists then they wouldn't have carried Queen, Elton John, Adam Lambert, Nsync, Glee Cds, and they probably wouldn't have Lady Gaga because she is such a gay activist.

They don't carry lots of music, by this logic there is something fishy regarding every type of pwrson in every music genre. And it's funny that you never talked about this guy until he made statements about his sexuality, but now that he has you cover him. That seems more fishy to me than what Target is doing.

They sell Watch The Throne tho, and guess what Frank Ocean is on there!! clowns!

  12. 12

This is just a stupidly ridiculous post perez. I work for Target Headquarters and they are the most gay friendly company I have ever worked for. You should be ashamed of yourself for posting before actually doing quality journalism and research.

  13. 13

Owl City is super gay. Just sayin'

Re: joethehobo – thank u for typing the truth! I've made love to women and men and I can say …. Ppl are tired of u Perez… Nobody looks up to you BC you start crap! you are an embarrassment for all gay men that are looking to break down walls that divide!

Re: joethehobo – peerex is the gay equivalent to the black guy who screams racist every time he disagrees with some statement. BOTH are worthless.

I've worked for Target, They're bullshit!

  19. 19

adam lambert and other gay artists' albums are sold at Target. Plus, they partnered with Gwen Stefani for a GAY Pride t-shirt.

  20. 20

Good for Target! Moare stores should resuse selling albums from gay people. The gays choose to live that lifestyle, Target has every right to choose not to sell their crap!

  21. 21

Who the hell is this guy? Am I living under a rock or is this guy a nobody? He's probably not famous enough for them to worry about. And Perez stop it with the "everybody hates gays" crap. It's just not true.

  22. 22

Re: Forda – Here here! Quit it Perez. Some people are bisexual… get over it!

  23. 23

Actually, I can tell you for a fact that that IS Targets policy and it's one that was only recently put in place. In the past they have sold the albums, but no longer will sell albums that are sold in advance digitally. Trying to make this a gay issue only shows your stupidity. Target is VERY gay friendly when it comes to both their employees and the products they sell. Look at some of the designers they'v been working with for YEARS!

  24. 24

You never game a dam about FO until he came out. And he probably did if for publicity reasons. He's not a star. His biggest hit was #17 on the R and B charts.

Re: berrybaby – he's Frank ocean your just living under a rock

  26. 26

well his single may be only #17, but his album was #1 top of the charts on itunes within hours of its release, and it continued in that spot for a week. now, it's #2.
    also, frank ocean is bisexual.
also, perez, you are making a very public mockery of yourself by spewing this meaningless blather.

Perez, you are getting from worse to worst. Next time do your reasearch first before you write it on your site.
