Comic-Con 2012 is underway in San Diego and our inner nerds are LOVING all of these updates from the big event!
Yesterday was the Breaking Dawn: Part 2 panel and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer and director of The Host, Andrew Niccol, sat down to chat about the upcoming sci-fi flick!
Meyer sang Niccol’s praises, calling his film Gattaca her FAVORITE science fiction movie, which made it easy to trust him in handling The Host’s script!
While we previously knew a bit about the upcoming film, Meyer elaborated:
“The Host is not a sci-fi that has giant spaceships and lasers and that angle of sci-fi. It’s a very human and internal and intimate science fiction. I knew that he [Niccol] could take a world that wasn’t exactly the same as ours and keep it so human and so relatable.”
The author also went on to describe the differences between filming Twilight and filming The Host, which just recently wrapped.
“In a lot of ways, this one [The Host] kind of felt more organic. Everybody who got involved from the beginning were people who just really loved it and were just really excited. We didn’t ever really have a studio, it stayed with the focus on creative pretty much the whole time.”
“Then we have this new group and with Twilight, we have done this for a while now and it’s this great reunion when we get together but everyone has their pattern.”
The author also explained how yesterday’s panel being Twilight’s very last was somewhat bittersweet, though she thinks “the story feels told and the movies are satisfying.”
However, although The Host softens the blow, seeing Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson made it harder to say goodbye!
While we can't wait for Breaking Dawn: Part 2, all this Host talk is getting us SUPER excited for the flick's release next March!
