We cannot wait for NBC’s hit SMASH to come back into our lives with its season two!
NBC’s chairman, Robert Greenblatt, sat down at Television Critics Association NBC panel on Tuesday to discuss the show and what we can expect for next season!
In terms of the show’s first season, Greenblatt shared how he thinks it all panned out — and where he feels they went wrong.
“We had some ups and downs creatively as the season went on, which is true of any [new] show.”
He hopes that newly added season two showrunner, Josh Safran, will help with “the arcing of storylines and … going one direction with a character and continuing in a really interesting way with that arc.”
There’s always room for improvement with ANY show and we think with the new cast additions like Jeremy Jordan and Jennifer Hudson, SMASH will definitely win over the hearts of critics this time around!
Although the show won’t be returning until midseason, Greenblatt confirmed that filming is already underway and promised some “great” new storylines!
As far as criticisms over season one’s inconsistencies?
NBC’s president of entertainment Jennifer Salke stated:
“[Safran’s] vision for the season… was so specific, you were on the edge of your seat. It just felt like there’s a real plan in place and things are coming together in a way that feels more consistent.”
Phew…! We feel SO much better about the shakeup — even if it meant we had to say goodbye to characters like Ellis, Dev, Michael and Frank!
It won't be long before our Broadway hopefuls are back on that stage AND our TVs!
