David Copperfield gave us all a scare in 2007 when we heard he was being investigated by the FBI for sexually assaulting a beauty queen in the Bahamas.
Fortunately, his accuser turned out to be a nasty liar and was eventually arrested for making false claims against another man.
The FBI's case against him was dropped and her lawsuit was dismissed, but the damage has been done to his reputation. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey (above), he doesn't look too happy to be looking back on those memz either!
On last Sunday's episode of Oprah's Next Chapter, the illusionist pointed out that people remember the charge, but often forget he was proven innocent and was actually a victim himself!
It's a sad fact that public opinion can be cruel and it is often formed with very little information. Like everyone else who's ever jumped to a conclusion based off of something they read on the internet, we're guilty of this ourselves!
Copperfield's experience should serve as a reminder that people aren't always as bad as the headlines make them seem.
