4-Month-Old Baby Survives Colorado Mass Shooting

| Filed under: Film FlickersSad Sad

Patricia Legarreta and Jamie Rohrs were two of the people who went to the midnight showing of Dark Knight Rises, where gunman James Holmes open fired.

They brought their 4-month-old son and 4-year-old daughter to the showing and had originally planned on sitting in the front of the theater. In a last minute decision, they opted for seats in the back of theater and ALL survived the shooting.

Watch the interview with the couple (above) to hear their account of the event.

The couple and their children are extremely fortunate to have survived the senseless mass shooting…we cannot even BEGIN to imagine how utterly terrifying that must've been.

Horrible to think what was simply meant to be a trip to the movies resulted in such a horrific, devastating tragedy.

Forget that they brought the kids, the real story which isn't posted here is that this dad LEFT all three of them behind to save his own life. He not only escaped the theater he drove off and only came back when she called him! He is a poor excuse of a man!

That would be true right up to the point where the idiot father jumped over the balcony, ran for his life right out of the theatre and drove off!!!
WTF - he was holding his 4month old and can't remember if he just placed him down or…. dare I say he may have just dropped him, apparently the babies cry was too loud and may alert the shooter!!!!! Now thats wrong!!!!!

Ugh. These people suck as parents. Who brings their 4 year old and 4 month old to a movie at night? Who lets their 4 year old SEE a movie like this? It's not what I would call age appropriate.

  9. grrr says – reply to this

    109

blah blah blah, trying to find excuses for leaving the baby and the rest of his family behind! Stupid asshole! Stay home with your kids if you can't afford a babysitter or take turns if you must see a movie in the middle of the night, violence and all that! Idiots and so selfish, both of them so called parents!

Bring a 4 month baby and 4 yr toddler to this midnight movie with loud sound!!!??? What kind of parent is that? I feel so sorry for the poor baby and his brother.

  11. 111

Re: REALLY! – Well, the reason we're all commenting on the fact that these two bright small children to ths movie is because that is what the post is about. Of course the bigger tragedy are the killings.

I don't agree with this couple taking their kids to this midnight movie. They should have been home. period. However, the people posting that they should have shot is stupid. 14 innocent people are dead. Now you want it to be 16? Ignorant.

What bothers me the most, besides the little ones being at movie, is that the Dad LEFT his family in the theater and ran to the parking lot. Who does that?

[re=6126358]Re: SpN[/re How can anyone defend these parents? They are selfish and poor examples of parents. Now they are parading their baby all over the news all day on every station. their kids have been up since midnight, in and out of the hospital, have been exposed to tear gas and should be home resting. 20 hours later and the baby is being slung around like a rag doll on the lap while their parents get their 15 minutes in every single way they can. they are a disgrace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    114

These idiots obviously only care about themselves and not their kids…their kids should be home in bed. But the movie was more important than their kids. Then they give interviews!! REALLY?? How stupid can they be??? I feel sorry for those kids to have them as parents.

Who would bring babies and kids to the midnight showing of Batman. Babies and kids should be in bed and this is not a movie for them to see. If you can't get or can't afford a babysitter then parents don't go. Case closed. Stay home.

Re: Beth S – It's one thing to say that this wasn't the worst thing they could do, but to actually "applaud" them? You're comparing this to when you were a child & your parents would take you & your siblings to functions but this is not at all the same thing. You were likely at a friend's home or that of a family-member were you were loved & nurtured & could nap on a couch if you wanted to. Not a midnight-screening of a violent movie. A little different.

    120

I can't believe some of you are criticizing people who say that the kids shouldn't be at the cinema. Are you really that dumb?
A lot of countries have minimal age requirements to allow children to go to the movies. In my country, the age is six (or at least it was). Why? Because younger kids have more sensitive hearing and in the case of babies they can even get permanent hearing damage.
Not only that, but I read some comments about the kids not remembering stuff…DUMB DUMB DUMB. Sure, they are not going to remember they were at batman and some psycho started a killing spree, but they're subconscious is going to keep the trauma, which means that in a few years they can develop irrational fears. Even pregnant women who experience lots of noise can have children who are easily scared. This is basic knowlegment and any idiot should know this.
And even if nothing like this happened, young kids should be in bed at least before 10 pm (and thats stretching). This parents should have stayed at home. PERIOD.

  23. 123

Ok toddler I don't get. But I actually had a friend who would take her newborn to the movies at night. Because it was the only time she could get out and that late he would sleep through anything. I think shes done it only twice and to see romantic comedies. But I do understand when there babies its not that uncommon. A toddler I'm not sure of. Maybe if there 5 and die hard batman fans. But I think this was all about the parents this time.

I have kids and i believe that what these parents did was extremely irresponsible!! To bring a 4 year old and a 4month old baby to a midnight movie is the most retarded thing they could've done! Fist of all they didn't think about how their kids could get sick out at that time, they didn't think about what type of people come out at those times of the night, they didn't think about their kids safety!! I feel sorry for the kids that have such selfish parents. People like them should not be allowed to have kids period!!! God help those kids.

Drove around in his truck and kept trying to cal them, hoping that they weren't dead. Heard him say this on Piers Morgan last night. And she agreed to marry him. Ok. Really? She is marrying him AFTER HE LEFT THEM???? Another guy, Jarell Brooks, lay on the girlfriend and protected her!!

Where are yall kids while yall are sittjng here talking crap? Yall are whats wrong with the world! Ppl fsel they have the right to judge! They dont need your approval. Im praying for yall

  34. 134

First of all, Batman is way too scary for a 4 year old, period. Second, why is it being glossed over that the guy dropped the baby and ran for his own worthless life! He already gave an interview admitting all this! He left the baby, his girlfriend, and her 4 year old and ran out and GOT IN HIS CAR AND DROVE AWAY! He only returned after his girlfriend called him. I suppose the media doesn't want to pick up on a negative spin story and instead let these assholes paint a new picture. Ridiculous. Notice how they are the first ones out there blabbing to the media. And who takes kids to a midnight show anyway? Oh yeah. Idiotic WHITE TRASH!

  36. 136

so glad none of them were hurt. where is the family (grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, aunts) of these two knuckleheads? maybe they can step up and help these two out when say they decide they want to go skydiving or whatever TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE FOR BABIES behavior they just MUST indulge themselves in next time. the children can stay home…safe and sleeping and secure. it takes a village…someone please help them out.

    For a babysitter!

  38. sara says – reply to this

    138

Uh yeah, this guy had nothing to do with his family making it out of there alive. There is another article where he says the baby was crying and he didnt want to gunman to come get him. so he "must have set him down" and then he ran for his life. He drove home and only came back when his girlfriend called him. He abandoned his family to save himself. He is a coward!! He should be ashamed of himself!

    139

Seriously? Ok pretty sure that the parents bringing their kids to a midnight showing is the least of the problems. Parents do it ALL the time trust me every time I go it happens. The only person who needs to take the balme in the situation is the Shooter! Now if the dad left his girlfriend and children then yes he is a complete douche. But come on taking your kids to a late movie is hardly bad parenting. I work in a day care and I've seen a whole lot worse.

Re: ParisIsBurning – So many people WERE shot, I cannot believe you just typed that!!! Such poor taste! Agreed that no one should bring young children in to see a rated R movie at 12 midnight (crazy in and of itself), however the much obvious bigger problem is nut bags who murder innocent people. These poor people just witnessed such a horrendous event occur, and during this attack probably thought they were going to lose their children forever. I can't even imagine what that must be like. Hopefully this will make them look closer at their lives and make better decisions. Unfortunately for them, their bad decision came to light in a very public and unspeakable manner. We all make mistakes although some are bigger than others

  46. zosomamma says – reply to this

    146

Re: JungianQueen – I myself think that young children should not see violent movies (especially 4) not because they cannot sit though a movie but rather because I definitely believe that it could translate to violence later in life or give them nightmares, or because it just may cause them to grow up and shoot up movie theaters, etc, etc, etc. I love that you just think they are bad parents because it may ruin YOUR movie experience and maybe their ears. Even if my daughter would sit the whole movie (which I am sure she would) so as to not waste your precious money, I think that is hardly the issue here.

    147

Why don't you include the ENTIRE interview this douche has been peddling, the 4 month old started to cry and he left the baby on the floor so it wouldn't attract attention to him so he wouldn't get shot. That he LEFT the movie theatre and drove off only to later have his girlfriend call him up to get her and the kids at the hospital. This COWARD left his girlfriend and kids at the movie theatre to save his own ass, a 19 year old guy Jarrell Brooks got on top of her and got shot in the process of protecting this woman and her kids. Why don't you cover him?obviously a REAL MAN!!

Bringing small children to a loud movie theater filled with violent and graphic scenes probably scared those children more than the shooter. Idiots. What stupid movie theater allows that?

  50. 150

I think it's utterly retarded to focus on the parents taking their kids along to this movie. The kids aren't in school, don't have a bedtime. It's not the same. They were probably asleep anyway. I looked this story up and the problem I have is with that piece of shit father. I hope this girl gets rid of this stupid fuck and finds herself a real man. I would not even dream of laying a baby down and saving my own ass. I don't care if it's my child or someone elses child that I don't even know. What a douchebag!

The kids being brought to the movie had nothing to do with this demented guy shooting up the theater. These young people were probably out with the family, and because of the selling out of the movie had to wait for the 12:00 showing. I get tired of people bashing kids, but what about the loud mouth adults that interupt movies too.

WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE MAKING THESE COMMENTS ON HERE.. I got to half of them and was disgusted.. WHO CARES IF THEY BROUGHT THEIR KIDS TO THE SHOWING.. I brought my son when he was a baby to the movies, granted not at midnight. The only part that you people should be focusing on, is this tragic event that took place and that they are alive. I pray for you all that are this heartless to make this judgmental hateful comments on here.. They were looking to go out and see a damn movie.. would it make a difference if the movie was an animated cartoon movie? I bet not you still would make those horrible comments. This doesn't make them bad parents because I dont know them. And what I read is that they were new to the area, and didn't have a baby sitter. Should they have brought their kids to a midnight showing, probably not, does that make them a bad person because they did, No.. Get Bent people.. I will pray for the lives lost in this senseless act, and those hurt along with their families..

We have a baby and we like to go to the movies. Our baby has never seen the inside of the movie theater. That's what drive-ins are for. At the drive-in if my baby cries he only bothers my husband and me, not everyone else. Please don't take babies and young kids to the movie unless it's a G or PG rated movie. EVERYONE hates it.

i actually took my 3 month old to one of the Scream movies years ago… it wasnt midnight but it was a late showing. it was a summer night, so it wasnt like he was out in cold temperatures, he was healthy, and i knew he would most likely sleep throughout the entire show. i did sit at the back of the theater just in case he should get fussy or scared from the sounds… however he did just as i thought he would, SLEPT the entire time. can someone please explain to me just exactly what i did wrong in that situation and just what part of that is considered child endangerment. he was in my care, all of his needs were met and we were not in an unhealthy or harmful enviroment. wheres the dcs case??

    158

What's truly amazing is that, thanks to the bravery of 19 year old Jerrel Brooks, the mother and her children were able to get out of the theater safely. I still can't believe that the father put his baby down and not only left him, the mother and the little girl, but also got in his car and drove off. Jerrell took a bullet for the mother. The father ran off. Don't even know what to say to makesense of that.

    159

for anyone defending these "parents"….you really don't have a clue what is right and what is wrong. period. common sense and intelligence should tell you that; a) you don't take a 4 year old to any movie this violent. b) you don't take kids this young out to an event this late at night. it's really very simple. if you don't get it, then you are part of the problem.

  60. 160

Re: sick_girl – I agree. I was stunned at the comments talking about these parents. How bout the idiot that killed people? Get over yourselves and sort out YOUR priorities and don't worry so much about parents taking children to see a movie.

  61. MeKJ says – reply to this

    161

People need to separate the incident with the poor parenting. Yes, NO ONE deserves to be injured/killed like those people were, no matter how much you disagree with whatever they may happen to do.

As for the other issue: 1. The 4 month old: Wouldn't an extremely loud/violent movie like that just literally scare the piss out of the kid? Granted, at that age they can't see or comprehend what is happening, but I would think the normally jacked-up sound of a movie theatre would freak them out. 2. The 4 year old - this one is even worse. Come on, they are 4. 4 year olds pick up EVERYTHING they see and hear, and you're going to bring them to THIS MOVIE? Ridiculous. Especially when a 4 year old could have typically spent the night with a friend/relative who has other children of the same age.

Bottom line, the parents were being selfish. As a parent, you give up many freedoms - one of which is being able to just go out and see a midnight showing of an a more mature-themed movie. You want to see it so bad, you hire a sitter or find someone who can watch the kids overnight.

  62. Michelle says – reply to this

    162

Hello, this story needs an update… her boyfriend left her and their two children escaped the theater and DROVE AWAY not knowing if they survived. Another man took a bullet for his 4 month old baby and saved his girlfriend. What a bleep bleep!!!

  63. 163

For those of you defending the parents, I assume you didn't actually pay attention to what happened. Not ONLY did they bring the kids to the movies, but when the gunshots started, the dad hightailed it out of the theater and drove away! He was responsible for the baby, but instead left him on the ground and ran! Say what you will about them bringing the kids to the movie (which is a terrible, irresponsible decision as it is), but the fact that he deserted his family is truly what is disgusting here.

Re: Kari – That's extremely idiotic. You can take your kids out in broad daylight and something can happen to them, not just after midnight. it doesn't make it more likely to happen either. They wanted to see a movie so they went and took their kids. Not all babies cry and not all kids have the same maturity level and the four year old most likely could've slept through the whole thing to. Anything can happen to your kids at ANYTIME during the day/night and ANYWHERE.
