Warner Bros Mutes Dark Knight Box Office Reporting; Estimates Tally $75M Opening Night

dark knight rises opening weekend box office estimates

Friday evening, Warner Bros announced they would postpone any reporting of box office sales from The Dark Knight Rises until Monday.

This decision was made out of respect to everyone involved in the terrible Colorado shooting.

But analysts estimate opening night's numbers to be right around $75M. This puts the film on track for a $170M weekend total.

It should be noted that $30M of Friday's numbers came from the massive midnight sales — before the movie theater massacre made headlines.

We've seen a number of internet polls show a range of 20-40% of movie-goers deciding not to attend DKR this weekend specifically because of the tragedy.

So when you factor that in with the numbers, it seems like Christopher Nolan's final Batman baby could have challenged The Avengers' monstrous $207M opening weekend.

But now it seems we'll never know… well, until Monday anyways.

I wasn't planning to see the movie even before the shooting happened. Superhero movies are so hokey & stupid. I like to live in the real world. But I feel bad for the innocent victims of this psycho. I bet more people are gonna be watching movies at home from now on. It's safer & cheaper. Bad news for cineplexes in general who were already scraping by.

Its the best "shoot em up" film in years

plus TDK doesnt have 3D ticket prices bulking up the takings like Avengers did. Im not convinced about Warners motives though… I dont even see how talking figures is disrespectful. The film itself is not the reason for the killings.

It's already available on-line and IT'S CRAPPY & BORING! I would not recommend
your waste your money on this…

Wait a week and watch it on Showtime…

Not planning on seeing it (not my kind of movie) but I do love to see movies on the big screen and not on my TV, plus you gotta have hot buttered popcorn.

One thing that irritates me is that all theaters seem to have eliminate small popcorns and the smallest size you can get is a medium, and I can only eat half to 2/3rs and have to leave the rest which makes me mad.

I honestly wasn't planning on going to TDKN on friday night BECAUSE of the shooting but I went and I'm really, really glad I did. It was an amazing movie. And yes this was a tragedy but I hope people didn't let one sick, psycho keep them from going to the movie.
