Fight For Your Right To Segway In Disneyland!

Judges have ruled that all 'mericans have the right to Segway!

Now it's law. No one — not even Mickey Mouse — can keep you from floating down the street on a the two-wheeled contraption.

This ruling comes after a woman who suffers from muscular dystrophy, one Miz Tina Baughman, took Disneyland to court for not letting her use a Segway in the theme park.

The Chief Judge of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals wrote in the court's decision:

"As new devices become available, public accommodations must consider using or adapting them to help disabled guests have an experience more akin to that of non-disabled."

That sounds fair to us — as long as the person is disabled!

We all know how much tourists hate exercise just lurve their Segways. But we'd hate to see the parks filled whole families flying by on the 12.5 mph device!

This is going to be disastrous. We are frequent disneyland visitors, and the electric scooters/wheelchairs are bad enough. Those people quickly whipping around the park through large crowds and running into kids, strollers, and people often. I cannot imagine having to deal with segways too! Thats going to cause people to get hurt. I hope they at least create a "speed limit" because those things get fast.

Re: LaurenAshley – True. I have been hit by wheel chairs. Just because you are on wheels doesn't mean you should have the right of way.

Lauren, I agree with you. I'm annual passholder, and I hate those motorized scooters, however, you have to stand to use a segway, so I doubt that this will be a problem in the parks…I'm sure this will only be allowed for certified disabled individuals if that is how the judgement is written, plus I'm sure Disney will appeal.

    Have a Magical Day!

The judge ruled that riding a segway is at Disney is not a necessity. Thefore Disney has the right to disallow them in their park. However he did force them to do research to prove disneys point that segways are a hazord.

The 9th circuit gets overruled a LOT by the Supreme Court. I have chronic back problems and would love to go back to Disneyland but would have to rent a mobility scooter to get around as I have to walk with a cane (I will try and be careful and go slow and not hit people). I don't get the whole segway thing personally.

Re: LaurenAshley – I've been run into by strollers and kids, so maybe we should ban both disabled people and children from the park. See how ridiculous that sounds? If you are disabled you should have the right to enjoy that place, it's not just for kids.
