It must have been mentioned previously when Perez brought up this topic, and here it is again — It is amazing (to a degree, since lots of people are stupid) that those in favor of banning a company from a city or state in the name of tolerance due to its president's personal, religious beliefs do not see the hypocrisy and irony in that decision. Few mention the fact that the company has never had charges of discrimination of any kind brought against it. And another thing, what about a mosque, for example, (and I use the example because in Boston, where I live, there is a government-funded mosque with which Mayor Menino does not seem to take issue) where homosexuality is VERY looked down upon? Why is there no outcry about that religion's view on same-sex marriage? I'm not implying that there should or shouldn't be an outcry about the mosque, simply that Menino, and others in favor of this ludicrous ban and this limited way of thinking should really apply this "You have to think like me or you can't operate in these here parts" mentality across the board. Or, better still, not at all. Sad.

Re: Farrah – The mayor has told Chick-fil-A that they are not welcome. Not that they are banned. I would think he could not do that. Chick-fil-A is entitled to their opinion, and we are each entitled to buy or not buy their food. As long as CFA follows the applicable Boston laws, the Mayor cannot stop them from coming. But he needn't bother attending their opening or sending and city business their way. Go KFC!

As someone who is an active blogger and parades your own opinions around, I'm surprised you do not recognize this as a "Free Speech" issue, as it truly is. I absolutely understand that there is the underlying issue of traditional marriage vs. marriage equality here, but free speech is where we should be concentrating. You are discriminating against this food chain simply because they are standing behind their morals, values, and religious beliefs. I stand behind Chick-Fil-A because of their business tactics, faith before profit. As Americans we have a right to speak freely and believe whatever we want. Perez, you stand for gay marriage; good for you. Chick-Fil-A president is for traditional marriage, good for him. Let's respect each others views and let us decide whether or not we will eat Chick-Fil-A. I feel as though people are "stoning" Chick-Fil-A because of their use of free speech and their traditional beliefs. I also feel that Chick-Fil-A will only profit more from this media frenzy because they are doing something that most of us would be scared to do; stand firmly in their beliefs even if it is not the "popular" thing to believe in. God will bless this company ten fold and more.

Re: FrankieLA – "Withholding licensing permits" and whatnot is essentially "banning." Of course he cannot ban a company. The point is, he THINKS he can and he is SAYING he can. He also said he would sacrifice a few hundred jobs if it meant keeping this man's company out of Boston (because this man believes differently than him). If you haven't already, you should read some of Menino's remarks, etc. I believe he has since said he "made a mistake" in stating that he can block the company and that he "make[s] mistakes all the time. That's a Meninoism." Lovely.
