Scotland To Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

Scotland legalizes gay marriage

BOO YAH!

Equality is taking the world by storm and Scotland is the most recent country to announce a commitment to legalizing same-sex marriage.

Although the new law won't go in affect until 2015, we're so very happy to hear deputy first minister Nicola Sturgeon say:

"We are committed to a Scotland that is fair and equal and that is why we intend to proceed with plans to allow same-sex marriage and religious ceremonies for civil partnerships. We believe that this is the right thing to do."

Despite huffing and puffing from the Catholic Church and the Church of Scotland, the country will be the first in the United Kingdom to put this debate behind them and do the right thing.

The Scottish government isn't trying to trample religious beliefs to. To protect religious groups opposed to treating every human being as equals, the new law will come with provisions that don't force anyone to participate that doesn't want to.

Can't wait for the USA to get hit with some of this common sense too!

No matter how much the conservative opposition likes to pretend gay marriages means the end of the world, same-sex couples getting married won't make a dent in ANYBODY ELSE'S lifestyle.

it is the right things to do well done scotland..

what is wrong is to treat one whole group of society as not worthy to have what everyone else has ..that is very wrong …

    equal rights for all

Re: perez posse member 777 – There will never be full agreement on this issue, as same-sex marriage is in direct violation of the fundamental Christian belief that God created marriage to be a holy union between one man and one woman.

Many Christians support civil unions. It’s the use of the term “marriage” that’s the sticking point, as that word has a strong religious connection.

Words are powerful: some are defensive when Scientologists refer to their institution as a “church”, just as some are offended being referred to by the word “Oriental” instead of “Asian”, the “n” word the word “retarded” instead of “person with a disability”, etc. so the compromise for many Christians is the term “civil union”.

The resistance of same-sex marriage by many Christians is about a Christian trying to adhere to God’s word which in the case of same-sex marriage, is in direct conflict to the law of man. Most of the time, God’s words are in sync with civil law (ie: it’s wrong to kill, it’s wrong to steal, etc.) but where these veer apart (ie: same sex marriage), a Christian must choose God’s word or man’s law or try to balance the two by choosing a compromise, such as being in support of civil unions. This term has no religious connotation to it yet allows for all people to enjoy the legal benefits of a union while not being acknowledged in a religious sense by using the word “marriage”.

So why the delay in implementation if it's so right? Why do they need three years? I'm betting this is going to quietly change before it's implemented, so don't count your chickens before they hatch, pansy. If lawmakers thought that allowing gays to marry was so right, they wouldn't have included such a long waiting period until it could happen. It's too bad that you're too unbalanced to see that, dumb ass.

Re: Meggie246524 – The word "marriage" or "marry" is not an exclusive religious term and to imply that Christians have the "God given" right to the meaning of the word thus placing "sacred" upon it just shows how far non-taxed institutions will worm their way into dictating basic laws of human rights. It makes about as much sense as the Mormons posthumously baptizing Adolf Hitler and Holocaust survivors. It is ridiculous.

RE: Meggie246524 I must say that is the best written post ive seen on here for a long time explaining the Christian side of things and it's absolutely correct, well said……but as always, Christians will just be called haters because they adhere to their beliefs, because they won't just fold under the onslaught of persecution for their belief…..yes, they get just as attacked as the gay community gets attacked, it's a two way street and nobody sees this.

Re: Meggie246524 – thanks for the lesson meggie

however there are a number of laws that in fact do not sit well with the so called christians ..and the holy union now just watching tv tonight actually about 1936 and how hitler had a LAW that jews and non jews couldnt marry, that is a male and a female could not marry and or interbred . the point is and im not gay nor am im jewish i dont have to be .. the point is someone is trying to stop someone else from doing the same thing that everyone else gets to do.. for no reason… reasons of HATRED which they hide behind the bible when its there own fears and hatred they hide behind..

WE ARNT in the dark ages anymore and the bible is old very very old hardly something modern man should be adhering too but yes i get ur point ty..

Re: Yes You Bore Me – Perez was wrong, they said "BY 2015". It's going into effect sometime next year or 2014. The Government process is different in The UK. It's much slower.

Re: WAHHHHHHHH! – Excuse me?!?!?! Please tell me you are joking. When was the last time a Christian has been Murdered, Beaten, Fired from their job, Disowned by their family, Thrown out on to the street, Had their house arsoned or broken into, Sent off to concentration camps, Not allowed to marry the person they love and be denied rights, and hauled off to jail, for simply being Christian, in America? Never. This however happens all the time in America. Concentration camps during the holocaust (though obvi not in US) and Jail in several states till 2003. Get informed.

Re: Meggie246524 – Though I agree to an extent on what you said, the word 'marriage' has never been and will never be exclusively Christian. Jews and atheists have been getting married for centuries, and the only reason gays are being targeted for not being able to do so as well is because it's easier to keep tabs on them since you can't hide the fact that you're gay while getting married.

Though I have said it before, I'll say it again. Every single day there are good, honest Christians who live moral lifestyles while still using their own moral compass to guide their decisions. There are plenty of things in the Bible that Christians have decided do not fit in with their idea of morality in today's world. The idea that you can use the Bible as justification to persecute and discriminate a group of people just because of the way they were born is no longer applicable. If someone thinks gays do not deserve the same rights as everyone else, that is on them, not their god.

What a wonderful notion in honor of humanity that Scotland has made in front of the world. As an American, I am truly embarrassed that our country continues to stand for bigotry and hatred. The separation of church and state has been totally left in the dust. People of Scotland, I hope the rest of the world finds the compassion to follow your example in honoring your fellow man with the same respect you would hope they would honor you with.

Re: Meggie246524 – Your religion is a myth just like the Eygptains,Greeks,Romans, Christianity is just a modern day myth. How do you know your Religion is the correct religion to be following out of all the other Religions in this world?! So keep your beliefs to yourself and out of human rights. Marriage has nothing to do with religion, in fact it wasn't until 1300 AD that the Church started recognizing Marriages. Reality Tip here: If Moses were alive today, he'd be in a mental institution. Tell me how come since the "Times of the Bible", nobody else has experience the same thing? Oh wait cuz the Bible is fiction. in 2,000 years people will believe Twilight really happened and Sparkly Vampires existed along with Werewolves to fight and protect Bella. SMH. Get your head out your ass and breath the fresh air.

RE: Chris…actually it happens all the time, people always get disowned for becoming Christians….my dad one of them…..nobody in his family will speak to him, our church helps people who get kicked out of communities….(hutterites) look them up….you say Jesus is the only way and you are thrown out with absolutely nothing, we help them….and no dont believe their lie that they are bible believers, they are far from it…..my cousin got beat up at school for sticking up for keeping bible reading in the class….he was expelled for defending himself, while the bully who punched him when he was praying over his lunch was not……this shit happens all the time, so kindly shut up and stopping acting like you are the only ones being attacked….the only problem is that nobody gives a shit when someone attacks a christian, it doesnt even make the news….but say one little word against someone gay and you are crucified.
