Will Jason Segel Return To How I Met Your Mother For A Potential Ninth Season?!

Nothing's for certain right now!

But we have a feeling that you shouldn't be holding your breath!

Ever since we heard CBS and 20th Century Fox execs were reportedly starting tentative negotiations for a possible ninth season of How I Met Your Mother, rumors have been circulating that Jason Segel would most likely not be involved!

And those fears were solidified FURTHER when he apparently said in an interview:

"It's great to do some 'rated R' stuff again, because I've been playing the nice guy for quite a long time now. That's why I'm gonna quit How I Met Your Mother after the eighth season."

However, according to the actor's rep:

"Perhaps something got lost in translation, but season nine hasn't even been addressed yet."

LOLz! Very true!

It's important to remember that so far, it's just in the discussion stages!

Unfortunately, though, sources close to the series are FAIRLY certain that if, in fact, season nine does come to fruition, not only will Jason be out, but so will Alyson Hannigan!

They confirm:

"Jason and Alyson [Hannigan] are the two least likely to want to do a season 9. It would take a lot of money to keep them. A lot."

WELL. At least if they don't return it will be easier for their characters to be written out together!

Ha!

But in all seriousness, we wouldn't want to see ANYONE leave this far into the story, so we sincerely hope that if everyone isn't on board, they should just make season eight the proper send-off it deserves to be!

How about U? Do U want a season nine of How I Met Your Mother without Lilly or Marshall?

I really hope that they don't just keep lumbering on with the show just because they can. Obviously it will go to shit if any of the main characters leave. That's why Friends was able to last as long as it did; everyone was still there (even if it took a shit-ton of money to keep them). I'd much rather see the show come to a nice close at season 8 than drag it on without the core characters, One-Tree-Hill-style. If the show won't be any good in season 9, they should just end it while they've still got it.

Re: vicky – totally agree with this. Shows tend to take a strange turn once a main character or more (like One Tree Hill) leave. If they do leave, the producers/writers should wrap it up at season 8 if only to keep the integrity of the show. It would be awful without Marshall and Lilly.

I just want to meet the mother before the final scene, if season 9 is just gonna prolong that, then forget it.

Neil pretty much carries the show. I'd watch one based just around him. I don't think it would be as great, no, but I can definitely see potential if Lily and Marshall moved off with their family and the rest just went on some big singles rampage. Granted, Barney would have to lose that stupid stripper first.

I think they need to end the show soon. I love it, but the actors need to move on to other things. All of them have movies, tv, writing, directing or hosting gigs they can get. In all honesty the only one who does the show and nothing else, other than American Pie, is Allison. The rest have had other projects the past few years.

i dont think doing a season without lily and marshall would work out. remember that short time when the couple moved to long island and ted, robin and barney were miserable without them because they missed them so much? i dont really see it working out, but you never know, those writers are some of the most clever on tv im sure they would do something!

If they are gone completely. End the Show.

However if you could get them on a semi-regular basis, it'd work. So the characters move away with their family. Have them show up for big events the characters would be. Show up in the odd flash forward, flash back. A couple episode stories based on them.

They could totally do that and not ruin the show. Especially if it's the last season where I assume a lot of points would be planned out. So the schedule could be worked out painlessly. Come in shoot a few weeks of episodes. At that time do a bunch of small appearances for flash backs, flash forwards, cut aways. Come in a couple months late. Do an episode or two. Then back for the final few episodes.
