Mariah Carey Underwhelms With New Triumphant Single

| Filed under: Music MinuteMariah CareyAmerican Idol

Mariah…she's on fiyah???

Hmm…maybe NOT so much on this one!

Mariah Carey just released her latest single, Triumphant (Get 'Em), featuring rappers Rick Ross and Meek Mill!

Take a listen to our butterfly queen's new midtempo track (above)!

While we appreciate its inspirational aim, maybe Mariah should've started off the song by singing, instead of firing off with the rap verse?

Or maybe we just kinda miss the Always Be My Baby-era Mz. Carey…

Either way, the song will be off MC’s as-yet untitled fourteenth album and we're sure it will be perfectly timed with her upcoming American Idol gig!

Yeah, this fucking sucks. Sounds like so many of her other songs. I can hear 'Honey', We Belong Together and Touch My Body in there. Ughhhh, she just keeps on disappointing.

wheres mariah tho???? this sounds like it should say "featuring mariah carey" and tbh it sounds like a leftover song from her last album….please try again mariah and this time try real HARD cuz this laughable….

  8. 8

The song sucks. She no longer looks like that fake pic, as she's fat faced and old looking now.
Also: ENOUGH with the shitty redundant rapping crap in every fucking song. Not just her, but everyone. ENOUGH!

    Re: bh

Like everything else attractive that goes away with age so has her voice.

Sorry comment were off on this subject. Mario whoever is working for you FIRE them. Isabella Cruise was in Nicole Kidman's wedding to Keith Urban. Very COMMON knowledge.

"Isabella's mother is Nicole Kidman who supported Katie Holmes during her divorce.
    Here's what a source said:
"She knows what it's like in that freaky house. She told Katie her life is great now and she has no regrets."
Isabella apparently hasn't talked to her mom since her divorce from Tom way back in 2001."

As much as I like Mariah, I'm going to have to go with Perez on this. Someone needs to remind her it's not 2002, and no one listens to this kind of stuff anymore. It might have been a halfway decent song without all the rapping. Mariah, find some other producers to work with. Jermaine Dupri is just not it.

DISAPPOINTED… Looks she is never coming back… there is no another emancipation of mimi… Where is she?? can she left her rap trauma apart?? invite pitbull, guetta, usher, someone who is IN, so she can come back… because it seems she´s not original any more.

As a long-time fan, I have to agree that this song is the opposite of "Triumphant". It's a huge letdown. I was very much looking forward to an upbeat and overwhelmingly beautiful track when I heard of the song's title. I really wanted to like this song. And I'm not one of those people who got stuck in the early '90s. I know the musical landscape has changed, and I appreciate Mariah's forays into contemporary R&B and more urban flavored tracks. "Side Effects" and "Migrate" are among my favorite MC songs. First off, Mariah seems more like a featured artist in her own track with nary a verse of her singing. The chorus sounds muddled and overproduced, with the lead vocal track drowning in backing vocals. I am appalled that this mediocre track was selected as the first single. I hope it's not indicative of the direction of the next album. This may be the first Mariah album that I will not buy in years…and I have 'em all. To the other lambies, please do not disrespect me for voicing a negative opinion. I am truly disappointed. Honestly, I was also disappointed with Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, not because of its clear tendencies towards the R&B/Hip-Hop music that Mariah loves, but because the quality of the songwriting, production and singing were all mediocre. I hope we are not getting another MOAIA. There, I said it. Sorry Mariah. I'm still a fan, but I hope you will return to form.

  15. 15

The last great song she had was "Obsessed". It was so long before that that she had a good one that I don't even remember what it was.

  16. 16

One more thing: STOP fucking dressing like a 16 year old hooker with those hideous tight outfits with the cut outs.

  17. 4lyfe says – reply to this

    17

It's what she wants to do now i guess, besides reguardless if it sucks we all know it's gonna be a number 1# song on itunes. If mariah did a ballad then everyone would say it "sucks" and is boring, smh poor bitch cant seem to win either way. So i say if we dont like it then dont buy it, but save the dumb comments it makes no sense. And i'll prefer anything she does now over the crap gaga makes up and the sex filled BS rihanna does lol

  18. 18

why is this even credited as hers when she's like a guest singer on it? the rapping that dominates is just BORING and predictable.

so yeah, huge flop. This bitch will remain a 90s has been.

  19. 19

When was the last time she had an actual hit? I feel like she's done tbh, she needs to go to the drawing board for the 1st time in her career and shake it up a bit on her next effort. I can already tell this album is going to bore me. Again.

  20. James says – reply to this

    20

Terrible song and I'm a huge Mariah fan, have been since 1997. I thought she was going back to her roots musically? Bollocks she has, shes gone the total opposite. Her original sound was closer to the club/dance music she claims she wants to get away from e.g. Someday. Worse song than Touch My Body.

  21. 21

Mariah, stop dressing like you're 21!! Then lose the rapper du jour's on your songs, put on that sexy/conservative black spandex dress you always used to wear, re- listen to your first two albums to remind yourself of your vocal abilities, then call up David Foster and Walter Afanasieff and make some hits like in the old days. The scantily clad, whiny vocal, constantly looking for street cred Mariah has sucked since the butterfly emerged from the cocoon.

  22. 22

Never felt the need to comment on here before but PEREZ you are ridiculous. Only a few days ago you said this…. "We just listened to the divinely delectable diva's new song and it does not disappoint! Just wait till you hear it too!"
NOW - you are saying it underwhelms? I take it you hadn't listened to the song when you orginally said you had?!! I think the song is ok, will probably grow. Looking forward to hearing the dance remixes that she's recorded new vocals for - which will hopefully feature less rapping too.

  23. Gonzo says – reply to this

    23

She isn't that great anymore. Her most recent work is terrible.

  24. Gilbert says – reply to this

    24

This is not a Mariah Carey song! This is a Meek Mill and Rick Ross (Feat. Mariah Carey) song. The only thing I like about this song is the single cover.

  25. 25

The fuck is this? Obviously Mariah is not gunning for any more #1s because this shit is awful. Sounds like a 9-11 memorial track rather than a 2012 single. Rap and R&B are on the way out anyway, none of the current top-ten songs are either:
    1. Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen)
    2. Wide Awake (Katy Perry)
    3. Payphone (Maroon 5)
    4. Whistle (Flo Rida)
    5. Lights (Ellie Goulding)
    6. Somebody That I Used to Know (Gotye)
    7. Where Have You Been (Rihanna)
    8. Titanium (David Guetta)
    9. Scream (Usher)
    10. Blow Me (P!nk)

Now tell me why Mariah is doing all of these whack dated ass rap?

  26. holdup says – reply to this

    26

Well to be honest the track is not that bad, it has a nice melody and it's quite refreshing to hear some nice rnb in all the Euro dance we get now, but obviously there are two big problems here : 1/ this is clearly not a Mariah track, she's a featuring, she only sings the choruses and 2/ whoever did the audio mixing of her voice needs to be fired assap, why did they speed her voice up like that she sounds like a chipmunk and damn, her vocals are clearly not loud enough.

  27. bjm69 says – reply to this

    27

love mariah…but this song kinda sucks. less rap more mariah…even when she does sing its just the same verse.

  28. 28

    That was worse than horrible.

  29. 29

Ahahahahahaaaaaaaa. What a joke!. Its funny also all her fans were saying it was going to be huge… where are they now?, oh right, crying in a corner cause the 'diva' cant even do a proper song anymore. Also you can hear almost all her album snippets in youtube and all those songs are very weak. She is gone. I giggle when people keep commenting aobut how they want the 'old' Mooriah, basically, the product done by Tommy Mottola. The song should be called 'Elephant' and have a picture of her in the cover without photoshop. More suitable.

  30. 30

FAT-RIAH HANG IT UP ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE'S DONE.

    31

sorry but this song is for people who like urban music. you guys talk about equality and tolerance and act like that? where is the open mind that you seek in everybody? Just because she's not singing a disco tune it doesn't mean this song sucks. You don't like rappers? well, i think there are people who do. Gaga and Kylie can take care of those gay jams… come on guys, we can be better than that. cyberbulling is not cool.

  32. 32

Sorry but as soon as you mentioned the word "rap" I knew I was not going to click on the video, am so sick of rap.

  33. TeamMariah says – reply to this

    33

Who the fuck thought this was first-single material?!

In the anticipation of MIMI all we got was a rap song featuring her as a guest on HER OWN FIRST SINGLE! On top of that the chorus sounds over produced and auto-tuned and the only real vocals that we got a taste of is a tiny part of her verse. It was like two lines worth?! On a Mariah track that's over 4 mins long! Underwhelmed is putting it fucking nicely.

I am so fucking disappointed that after so much anticipation this is what she thinks her fans are waiting for. Whoever thought that this is first single material is fucking out of their minds. People want Mariah NOT some overproduced rap song that features her.

Can't express my disappointment enough. What are you trying to do Mariah? It's like Mariah tries so hard to be black that she subconciously suppresses her Irish heritage (I know that that didn't sound PC but it's a shortcut of the idea i'm trying to express). I don't know what goes on up in that studio but this shit is not even close to "triumphant".

And who the fuck is meek mill?! The entire world wouldn't even have heard of YOU if Mariah did not feature you on this track! Pfft. 'you wanna carry me, no Mariah.' Don't assume that you're tiny demographic represents the vast wide world.

    Ughh…thorough disappointment.

  34. 34

OMG Amy Fisher why why…you are soooo soooo talented and you put out this crap!!! why?
please get a stylist!!! maybe you can borrow JLO's? you look sooo tacky as usual on that cover…try a little more classyness you r a Diva afterall…act like one boo

This song was well put together!!! I dont care if the rap verse came first or even if it was in the song. It was still amazing and she even said listen to the lyrics carefully to get the message not criticize her work. Her voice is outstanding and shows she still has the voice and proper control of her whistle register. probably 90% of you who said this is garbage dont even know what good music is, because this IS GOOD music!!!!!!

I am going to wait for the remix of this song. Where she claimed she re-sung it. I think, this is more like a remix for the original and they just put it out there to see how the public reacts? IDK, if you listen to it carefully, I think the remove the singing part of Mariah and put the raps instead.Fantasy without ODB and just made the Fan

    41

um this does sound like she is featured, and hopefully that is the case. Mariah needs some new producers and new melodies that are fun and showcase her voice. Emancipation of MIMI was her best album recently. Everything after that kinda went downhill. I hope her new music is better than this. Even is she has to do pop music and have a album like britney's last one with some mariah ballads, ill buy it. This is just not good enough to buy.

  43. 43

As much as I can't stand Mariah Carey (and Nick Cannon is about 50 times more annoying!), I was hoping that she'd come back as a veteran and show these silly pre-teen/teen/"post-teen" *professional celebrities* what it means to be a *musician.* Unfortunately, this song disappoints me on every front. I'm a fan of hip-hop, but Rick Ross and Meek Mill don't impress me here, and their placement in the song is just as unnecessary as Wiz Khalifa in Maroon 5's "Payphone." Mariah's parts sound uninspired, as well. Stronger songwriting could have made this song significantly better, but most "radio-focused" artists are far more concerned with "hot beats" and big-name guest spots than they are with quality lyrics and sensible compositional structure. Without that, you're song is just another faceless keyboard-banging experiment added to the pile.

  44. Frank says – reply to this

    44

Why are you thinking so much in boxes? It's a great inspirational track. And there's a beautiful melody. I love that she sticks to her way of doing stuff instead of selling out to the dance craze in the US. I love, love, love Mariah for that!

  46. 46

TOO MUCH RAP KILLS MARIAH'S VOICE…. HER PART IS SWEET & CATCHY… SHE SHOULD HAVE RELEASED THIS AS A BONUS VERSION, WHILE THE ORIGINAL WOULD FEATURE NO RAPPERS, JUST MARIAH'S VOICE…

  50. 50

You were the one who was saying just a few days ago how great the song is. So which is the truth? Why do you feel compelled to lie about shit? You have zero credibility, pansy, and nobody likes a liar.
    .
Re: JC – You're going to have to go with Perez on this one, hun? Which one of his opinions are you going with? Because he said just days ago that the song ROCKS.
    .
Perez, you're a lying jerk, and I'm going to go to Chick-fil-A later to help offset any of your homo friends who go there to gross people out with their nasty same-sex kissing. I'm going to throw red kool-aid on them. I don't expect I'll use much, if any, because homos are notoriously cowardly, and there will be people ready to teach them a lesson in manners if they stir up shit. So are YOU gonna go to CFA today? No? Why am I not surprised? You run your mouth a lot, but you're a total zero on any action, loser.

  51. NotHating says – reply to this

    51

Um…it might be great that she's sticking to what she wants to do, but unfortunately it's not what people want to hear. I would have expected more from an artist who's been in the business for 22 years now. She's been working with the same formula since 1997. If anyone needs to be inspired, it's Mariah. Even Madonna's tacky faux-cheerleading song was better than this.

  52. Carter says – reply to this

    52

What's Mariah going to tell the contestants when she's judging them on AI? "Darling, I loved the vocals, but the song needed more rap."
    Re: JC
You totally called that one out on Jermaine Dupri. He destroyed Janet's career, and he's going to destroy Mariah's if she keeps working w/ him.
    Re: TeamMariah
Mariah want's hip-hop credibility so bad, she sometimes forgets she's a singer.

Shes needs a better song the remix is better but i perfer that type of sound from Madonna Mariah still has time to put out another song hopefully it can be something that Randy jackson or Darkchild produce plus she said that that the song was made two weeks ago something like that but Def Jam should have really examing this song before it was put.

    Let us be honest here

    1. She is featuring on her own song
    2. Her vocals are bland, blurry and dont make sense when read on paper.
    3. Her vocals disappear towards the end.
    4. She says she listend to her earlier albums to make new music. She said this about her other albums as well. Shes a liar. She has lost hugh creativity.
    5. She doesnt want to sing songs the way her fans want. She doesnt want mass appeal…

Well go and make music for yourself then. Sing it at home. Sing it were only you hear it. Thats what you want. Music you like.

You disappoint on purpose. Your just trying to stay a little relavent just to keep some income coming in?

Whats the point when the fans arent fans of your music. You dont listen. Go listen. Get you hearing checked. We dont want this r n b. keep with the times.

All you haters need to step back!! I was 5 years old when 'vision of love' came out and have been a die hard fan since. I love this song and props to her for sticking to her urban roots and not using talentless pieces of trash like pitbull… Save that crap for j-ho. Why does Mariah need to conform to that dance crap that invades our radio? All those songs sound the same anyway. Ricky rozay is one of the hottest in the hip hop game right now and meek mill is up and coming. Keep doing your thing Mimi

  74. 74

i don't get this at all - WHY isn't she singing in it more??! it's like a rap song with her doing back-up, and it SUCKS!
