I understand why you're mad at his comments. They're obviously unfair and prejudiced. But really…you think it's okay or justified or even remotely humorous that someone spit on him? That's disgusting.

  2. 2

OMG If Matt Bomer DOESN'T get to play Christian Grey, I will lose so much respect for the casting directors!!! He is the perfect CG.

he is right about that thou . for us woman we want to fanisise about the CG and DREAM he is on us . if they used a gay guy ( and i believe love is love no mater who you are or who your with ) it would ruin the film for the woman .

Good grief. He is a great actor- please do not turn this into another Chick-Fil-A media circus.

I do not care if he's gay or straight… either he can act and be convincing in that role or he cannot. I like this guy- but honestly picture Skarsgard or Somerhaulder in the role over him (personal preference… nothing to do with his orientation). But please do not turn this into a take it or leave it stance on bigotry or tolerance. Being gay is a lifestyle choice, not an identity. Ugh, please do not take one man's opinion and attach it to everyone who happens to prefer someone else to the role.

He he doesn't get the role, is the gay community going to pin it on this as the sole reason he didn't get the role? This is one man's opinion, and he is not attached too the production.

And Guest I agree… SPITTING on someone?!?! People! The man has an opinion- he is not the casting director. Respect his opinion, respect others decisions on sexuality (gay and straight), and do not resort to this immature and disrespectful behavior! Live and let live!

  6. 6

Ellis is right. Bomer is openly gay. There will be many people who won't be able to look past that when trying to immerse themselves in the trash that is 50 Shades. Ellis may not have any say in casting, but those who ARE casting the movie will have to take into consideration that Matt Bomer takes it up his Bummer. I like Matt Bomer; despite my disappointment in his sexual orientation, even I can see and admit to his stunning good looks. But as a heterosexual lead in a very sexual movie, he will fall short for many. Getting your stinky panties in a twist over it doesn't change that, pansy. You don't like it, but Ellis was telling the truth. It is what it is. If you can't face that, then YOU have the problem; there is no need to change reality because you're an idiot.

  8. Typecasting says – reply to this

    8

Whether I agree with it or not… typecasting happens. Thus why many actors do not take certain roles for the fear of the public not being able to see him/her in another role. Typecasting happens to most EVERY star… Meg Ryan was dubbed queen of romantic comedies… Elijah Wood will always be Frodo in my mind, and one you might like best, Kristen Stewart. I don't approve of the bullying you are subjecting her to, but I will have a VERY hard time watching her in ANY film without thinking of her as a controversial tabloid figure who was caught in a public scandal. How many can watch Michael Vick without thinking of the backdoor dog fighting rings, Tom Cruise and his connection with Scientology or Lindsay Lohan in… well EVERYTHING BAD? Casting directors always take an actor/actresses reputation, lifestyles, past roles, etc…

It just happens and it happens with EVERY actor. Not just one who happens to be openly homosexual.

  12. 12

Re: Belle – Nope. You are not the only one. I thought it was laughable. The only positive thing about it being made into a movie is that with the addition of facial expression, maybe the one dimensional characters will actually improve. But what are they going to do about the lack of a plot?

    13

Re: Danica – Are you serious? Gay or not, women can fantasize about anyone they want. It's never going to happen-that's why it's called a FANTASY. Sean Maher and Neil Patrick Harris are gay-doesn't mean I can't think about them as being straight. Women are attracted to someones looks and personality, not their sexuality.

  14. 14

I completely agree with Ellis. Part of being a character such as Christian Grey is being said character on and off screen. Having him not be interested in women makes him less attractive off screen. Its nothing homophobic, its just good marketing.

  15. lulWhat says – reply to this

    15

I kinda get where he is coming from though, in a non discriminate way, if you know too much about an actor it gets hard to break away from whilst trying to get to know the character they are portraying, i don't know the level of his acting skills, but if i am not in awe with it then i won't be sympathetic to the character because i know he isn't fully into it. idfk, this website is really bitchy, its uncomfortable, i feel like whenever I'm on it i am hanging out with a load of "prom queens and homecoming queens" who date "jocks" and stuff, never fit in well with them and i don't fit in here. I had to adapt my examples for an american crowd because in England we don't have prom queens, homecomings or jocks.

  16. 16

SPELL CHECK MUCH? Ugh so hard to take you seriously when you can't even use simple spell checker.

  17. 17

FOR FREAKING FUCKING GOD SAKE PEOPLE.
this is not a discrimination thing is a marketing thing!!! I'm a woman I'm in love (literally) with the character of Christian Grey HOW THE FUCK CG CAN BE GAY ??? Does anybody here read the books of fifty shades???
Christian Grey is everything but not gay, never gay and I know Matt B. is a great and handsome actor but how's gonna believe he's madly in love with a girl?
If the producers choose him for play CG I seriously will be mad and I will not go to see the fucking movie, they'll ruin our CG.
Got it Perez? Stop view the world through your gay eyes, not everybody is gay.

  18. mw says – reply to this

    18

I'm not homophobic at all but as a woman..that would spoil the fantasy a little. No matter how good an actor. It's a movie about sex. If it were not, there would be no issue with a gay guy playing a strait guy. Strait men play gay all the time. But it's about sex and the fantasy.

  19. 19

Re: heythere1314 – That's exactly what i'm trying to say here. Not discrimination thing is just marketing.

    22

Shame Shame Shame on all of you bigots using "gay" as an adjective to any actor. Everyone has opinions, fine but voice the intelligent ones and keep your discriminating, backwoods, bible thumping, gay bashing, racial slurs to yourself… Yes I know I just used some & I'm sure you got pissed off…well, that's the point. Human is human and actors are ACTORS! So really, Somerhalder is a REAL vampire, Cavil has REAL Superman powers?! Your logic of typecasting along with that moron Ellis, are idiotic and frankly embarrassing. Tom Hanks won the Academy Award for his GAY role in Philadelphia…does that mean he and Antonio Banderas were getting it on?! NO..you idiots! I am happily married, to a man… But I guarantee no other male actor besides Matt Bomer is good enough to at least have a chance to land the role. Grow up and take that bigot stick out of your asses and evolve with the rest of the world.

  23. JK says – reply to this

    23

I am a straight woman who is in love with Matt Bomer, gay or not. He is a perfect CG. Get over it, idiots.

  24. Marketing says – reply to this

    24

Not being discriminatory, but I can totally get why women would want a straight man to portray a character whose one and only purpose in the book is to be a heterosexual BSDM male. You have several A-list actors to choose from, you choose the one most believable in the role and who would be a marketable cast in the film. Yes, Bomer is a fantastic actor. So is Pine, Skarsgard, and others gunning for this film. Now, are casting directors going to take a risk and place someone in a role who has publicly stated he is the total opposite from the CG character? I would doubt it… especially when there are others just as talented/good looking/qualified to choose from that are more related to the character of Christian Gray without the risk of losing potential viewers who cannot separate his openly public persona with the role in a movie solely focused on sex. As another said, it's not discrimination, it's just smart marketing.

    Re: Jenni

LOL, wow- Honey, breathe and take two steps back from the computer! You have the right to your opinion and more power to you. I don't believe I mentioned anything biblical in my post nor racial or sexual slurs. Rereading my post I can definately say I posted absolutely no gay bashing/discriminatory remarks and did not reference the bible in any way. Backwoods? Your opinion, and you have every right to think what you wish. For clarification purposes, I have a doctorate, am 100% for equal rights and am a registered democrat who thinks everyone should have the same opportunities so I am not exactly seeing where your rage of being backwoods/biblethumping, etc… is coming from regarding my post on typecasting.

It happens. Actors/Actresses have given interviews on the topics themselves and are aware it happens. Is it a good or bad thing? I didn't take a side. I simply said I like Somerhalder or Skarsgard (nothing to do with sexual orientation– in fact– Skarsgard plays a bisexual role on True Blood, so if you want to pigeonhole me as homophobic simply because I favor one actor over another– then you are missing the mark slightly.) There are others just as qualified out for this role and to deny that typecasting doesn't happen to ALL actors, gay, straight, bisexual– is not realistic.

Don't ruin this fun, trashy fantasy for all of us! I didn't buy it when he played a hetero stripper in magic mike, making out with his topless "wife". It was just weird. No offense, whatever floats his boat in real life is his biz, there is just no way in HELL he could pull of CG!!!

  32. 32

an openly gay and pretty boy actor is never gonna be convincing in this role. sorry but thats the truth. He's not even a great actor just average. This is the price u pay for coming out. You lose out on certain roles. Tough titty.

Ian Somerholder for CG for sure! First thought that came to my mind when I found out it was going to movie. He would be perfect!

  34. 34

Re: Belle – You're not the only one. I honestly don't see how the movie will be successful when more than two-thirds of the book was mediocre sex and the less than a third was plot.

The only actors/actresses who could pull it off are porn stars in my opinion (and I'm sure the sex would be better too).

I watch Frasier now, and I have no trouble believing that Niles is on love with Daphne. DHP being gay makes no difference.

  37. tweetgirl24 says – reply to this

    37

It is not if he can act straight or not. Women want to think they have a chance as delusional as that is. This book has been one of the most popular female fantasy books in a long time and it makes no sense to have the object of affection be a gay guy. As gorgeous as he is we all know that we have zero chance. But at least with the other choices as jim carrey says in dumb and dumber "so your saying there is a chance"

LOVE Matt Bomer. He is HOT. But, who was convinced he was really into his "wife" in Magic Mike? Not me :(
He has the right look for CG, but during any sexual scenes, I would be thinking, "He probably wishes Ana were a guy right now."

OMG the IQ level in this thread is low. Bomer, Pettyfer or Pine would be perfect GC. Ian is too short at 5.9 and wearing wigs now I think.

    46

    Re: Lola

OMG You are SO right! We should totally judge Ian Somerhalder because he is an inch shorter, because, like, Hollywood cannot make him appear taller with angles and camera shots. *eyeroll*

Bottom line- people are going to have varying opinions. Just because they are different from yours does not make them any less intelligent. We have different tastes. I'd rather see ASkar than the others (and he's 6'4" so by your genius mental yardstick regarding height, he's the prime choice). /sarcasm

  47. 47

Can someone make Bret Easton Ellis go away? And also make this 50 Shades thing go away too? Ladies, if you think this is sexually enticing, you need to get out more.

  48. 48

And who is financing this alleged BEE Fifty Shades flick? Methinks it's all a hollow PR stunt via Twitz.

  49. Guest13 says – reply to this

    49

First off, I'd just like to say that Matt Bomer is extremely talented and good looking. BUT on White Collar, I feel like Matt Bomer is at his best when he is being charming and funny. Christian Grey, however is this cool ,stoic character that rarely jokes. It has nothing to do with his sexual orientation, he's just not the right actor for this role.

  50. paige123 says – reply to this

    50

While I can understand where he is coming from, I am a female and I have to say I am obsessed with Matt Bomer and love him in White Collar, and the fact that he is openly gay does not stop him from completely melting my heart with his charming portrayal of Neal Caffrey!

    Re: Guest13

I've said this several times now– they are all great looking and great actors but not everyone is going to have a favorite to play who they believe to be their favorite as CG. It comes down to this: who can market and sell this movie. Regardless of sexual origination. Matt Bomer is handsome and a good actor on White Collar, but I just can't picture him as CG. Just my humble opinion though.

    55

Matt Bomer is not right for Christian Grey. He's not Fifty Shades enough. Channing Tatum maybe, now he is VERY Fifty Shakes :-)

  56. 56

I don't agree. I think it is more about the situations, rather than the actor. I never saw Bomer act until Magic Mike and I knew he was gay. He is beautiful I would watch the movie with him acting in it. On a side note, I know lots of woman that find gay men hot….

  57. 57

Re: Elisa – channing can't act. why don't you watch porn? The movie will never be what you have imagined it to be.

  59. J. D. Allen says – reply to this

    59

(WARNING: The following comment contains sarcasm.) Only gays should play gay and only straights should play straight? Why stop there! Everyone knows that acting isn't really acting and its only convincing when its 'for real'. I think only cops should play cops and only robbers should play robbers! Only cowboys should play cowboys, and indians play indians! When I found out that C3PO wasn't a real robot that just ruined the whole 'realism' of that flick for me. Sir Anthony Hopkins sucked as a serial killer because he doesn't have a couple dozen murders under his belt (little Jeffy Dahlmer would have played Hannibal Lecter so much better than Hopkins if only they could have kept him from eating the cameraman and best boy) and I'll never believe a single performance from that hack Meryl Streep until an actual dingo actually eats her actual baby! And, you know, come to think of it, Jessica Lange would have played those last scenes in 'Francis' so much more convincingly if they had really given her a labotomy in her dressing room right before filming began! What's next? Are you gonna try and tell me those little guys getting all worked up over that ring wern't really hobbits and ruin that one for me too? That type of logic proves Bret Easton Ahole is an idiot. Maybe he should quit writing books since he's not an actual typewriter, or at least stop expressing his thoughts since he's not an actual thinker.

  60. 60

Re: Vickie – Yeah but you have to admit Niles looks pretty wooden whenever he kisses Daphne. I have no problem with Matt Bomer playing CG bc I don't even know who he is. As long as he looks like he likes it during the sex scenes then it's fine with me. Maybe that's what some people are worried about, that the sex scenes won't be steamy.

Priceless…..love your sarcasm!!! Well said…….and sooooo true!
Matt Bomer is the perfect Christian Grey FOR ME! As a straight married woman, he is the man I see when I was reading these books. I don't care about his sexuality, it has nothing to do with the portrayal of a role I am watching. It's not MB & Ana Steele…..it's CG & Ana.
