Ellis is right. Bomer is openly gay. There will be many people who won't be able to look past that when trying to immerse themselves in the trash that is 50 Shades. Ellis may not have any say in casting, but those who ARE casting the movie will have to take into consideration that Matt Bomer takes it up his Bummer. I like Matt Bomer; despite my disappointment in his sexual orientation, even I can see and admit to his stunning good looks. But as a heterosexual lead in a very sexual movie, he will fall short for many. Getting your stinky panties in a twist over it doesn't change that, pansy. You don't like it, but Ellis was telling the truth. It is what it is. If you can't face that, then YOU have the problem; there is no need to change reality because you're an idiot.

Whether I agree with it or not… typecasting happens. Thus why many actors do not take certain roles for the fear of the public not being able to see him/her in another role. Typecasting happens to most EVERY star… Meg Ryan was dubbed queen of romantic comedies… Elijah Wood will always be Frodo in my mind, and one you might like best, Kristen Stewart. I don't approve of the bullying you are subjecting her to, but I will have a VERY hard time watching her in ANY film without thinking of her as a controversial tabloid figure who was caught in a public scandal. How many can watch Michael Vick without thinking of the backdoor dog fighting rings, Tom Cruise and his connection with Scientology or Lindsay Lohan in… well EVERYTHING BAD? Casting directors always take an actor/actresses reputation, lifestyles, past roles, etc…

Sean Maher and Neil Patrick Harris are gay-doesn't mean I can't think about them as being straight. Women are attracted to someones looks and personality, not their sexuality.
I completely agree with Ellis. Part of being a character such as Christian Grey is being said character on and off screen. Having him not be interested in women makes him less attractive off screen. Its nothing homophobic, its just good marketing.

Not being discriminatory, but I can totally get why women would want a straight man to portray a character whose one and only purpose in the book is to be a heterosexual BSDM male. You have several A-list actors to choose from, you choose the one most believable in the role and who would be a marketable cast in the film. Yes, Bomer is a fantastic actor. So is Pine, Skarsgard, and others gunning for this film. Now, are casting directors going to take a risk and place someone in a role who has publicly stated he is the total opposite from the CG character? I would doubt it… especially when there are others just as talented/good looking/qualified to choose from that are more related to the character of Christian Gray without the risk of losing potential viewers who cannot separate his openly public persona with the role in a movie solely focused on sex. As another said, it's not discrimination, it's just smart marketing.

It happens. Actors/Actresses have given interviews on the topics themselves and are aware it happens. Is it a good or bad thing? I didn't take a side. I simply said I like Somerhalder or Skarsgard (nothing to do with sexual orientation– in fact– Skarsgard plays a bisexual role on True Blood, so if you want to pigeonhole me as homophobic simply because I favor one actor over another– then you are missing the mark slightly.) There are others just as qualified out for this role and to deny that typecasting doesn't happen to ALL actors, gay, straight, bisexual– is not realistic.

First off, I'd just like to say that Matt Bomer is extremely talented and good looking. BUT on White Collar, I feel like Matt Bomer is at his best when he is being charming and funny. Christian Grey, however is this cool ,stoic character that rarely jokes. It has nothing to do with his sexual orientation, he's just not the right actor for this role.
While I can understand where he is coming from, I am a female and I have to say I am obsessed with Matt Bomer and love him in White Collar, and the fact that he is openly gay does not stop him from completely melting my heart with his charming portrayal of Neal Caffrey!

It comes down to this: who can market and sell this movie. Regardless of sexual origination. Matt Bomer is handsome and a good actor on White Collar, but I just can't picture him as CG.
