Emilio Estefan developing dramatic tv series

Emilio Estefan launched the music careers of Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Marc Anthony and more, but now he's preparing to launch some Latino acting careers as well.

Gloria Estefan's husband has partnered with 20th Television to executive produce a Latino-themed drama series, as the company's chairmen explained:

"Emilio Estefan's eye for talent, taste in material and brilliant creative instincts have made him one of the most accomplished producers of our times, and we are excited to be in business with him. Reaching out to all audiences, including the Latino audience, is a critical priority for this studio as we look for that next big international hit. Emilio has a vision for a dramatic series that combines great storytelling with an authenticity in terms of Latino culture that we think every network will want on their schedule. We can’t wait to begin the development process with him."

If his skill for finding and developing Latino talent translate into television, we have no doubt his show will be a hit.

While the ratings are important, the Cuban music producer has other things on his mind too. For starters, he wants the show to clear up some "misconceptions" of Hispanic culture and explained:

"Through the years, we've seen a lot of misconceptions — the roles Hispanics play has been predictable. A lot of the things they usually have related to Latinos were prostitutes, housekeepers or drug dealers. I feel this will definitely bring a lot of hope and respect to a lot of new generation actors to be able to play any kind of role."

We're proud of our heritage and completely agree that it's time for Latino actors to get a break beyond Hollywood stereotypes.

Can't wait to see what you come up with, Emilio!

Damn they really are taking over.

Best of luck to him - although I feel he will try to showcase Cubans.

Mexico has had some great movies coming out for at least 20 years and unlike many Americans I have no problems seeing a movie with subtitles. I am fortunate that two chains within a 10 mile radius play a fair amount of indies and foreign films and have discount days - and I can live in the South Bay and not have to put up with all the traffic.
