Adam Levine: I'm Pro Gay Marriage Because It's Right — NOT Because My Brother Is Gay!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayPolitikAdam LevineThe Voice

Adam Levine is cool

Adam Levine for President!!

The Maroon 5 frontman is known for being ALLL about the gay rights.

In a recent interview with PrideSource.com, the opened-minded Voice judge explained a thing or two about his stance on legalizing gay marriage — something he says has little to do with have a gay brother:

"I would feel the same way regardless. I happen to have a gay brother, but that doesn't mean I'm more of an advocate for equal human rights. It's just so silly and it doesn't make any sense to me that you wouldn't be able to marry whomever you want to marry. It's not our business. I don't know why we're obsessed with making everything in this country our business, all the time. We just need to make it legal and stop caring so much. It doesn't matter. And it shouldn't matter. It's just not anyone's business except the people involved."

Adam adds that people' justifications for being against gay marriage just "doesn't check out." He says:

"Whenever I hear people's reasoning behind it, I think to myself: First of all, marriage isn't always successful anyway. Look at the divorce rate and all the things that go wrong with marriage. Whether it's gay or straight, there are issues with it. Clearly people have a hard time staying together, and that's just a sad truth about marriage in our society. People should be allowed to succeed and fail at marriage as they so desire."

Preach!

The right to disagree with gay marriage is an unalienable RIGHT. We are all for expressing your feelings against gay marriage… by not get married to someone of the same sex!

However, it should NOT be their right to let their hate control the lives of other Americans.

As reverend Levine puts it:

"Someone's sexual preference is their sexual preference. Let's move on."

AMEN!

So the gays choose to be gay, and then choose that they want to marry someone else who has chosen to be gay? Well I guess it's o.k. ’cause at the same time they're all choosing to go to hell for their debauchery!

The Divorce Rate is actually going down, Adam Levine. As much as I applaud you on your advocating for Gay rights and agree, I hate when people use that fact in their reasoning that marriage as an institution isn't always successful. Times are changing for everyone whether you are straight, homosexual, a woman, a man, christian, atheist, or any other subset of people. Sorry, just get your facts straight.

"People should be allowed to succeed and fail at marriage as they so desire." Again, no. All people should respect marriage in all of itsmeanings. They should respect and love their partner. It's not something simple to "succeed" or "fail" at.

Coming from the perspective of a child of divorce, It leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I hear any one give that reason to say "Hey - Marriage isn't serious any way!" It actually is, whoever you decide to share it with, it is.

Lastly, Perez, I respect your support of gay rights and that you advocate for it but please try and bring more attention to other causes as well. Human Trafficking of Children, Genocide, or the oppression of women in other cultures. You have a platform and I think you should use it to reach your readers who may be desensitized to these very real and very serious issues.

    Have a great day.

Re: dryan1971 – Homosexuals didn't choose to be gay any more than you chose to be stupid. It's just simply the way people are.

Homosexuals don't choose to be gay, but Christians choose to be Christians. They also choose to hate gays and make their lives miserable by pretending it's the 1950. Jesus set the example to hate gays… oh wait, no he did't. Christians CHOOSE to that all on their own.

Re: Kyle73 – I'm Christian, I go to church every Sunday and I don't hate gays. In fact, I stood up for one of my closest friends at his wedding when he married his partner. Try to use a smaller & more open-minded brush instead of painting everyone with that generic and hateful one that you're currently using.

Dayan I assume you are an American living in the deep south and have probably never been of of your state. We don't choose to be gay, dear, I got married to my husband last year and the world did not end. I am lucky enough to belong to a country that is smart enough to legalize civil partnerships as a legal and binding contract. If you don't like the idea, fine. Maybe if you concentrated on the REALLY important stuff in the bible, try the 10 commandments for starters, then I'm sure you would be happier!

Re: Meggie246524 – Kyle73 is just as intolerant as the people he condemns. Thank you for your kind words and showing us what Christianity is really about. Though I myself am not religious, I think you're an excellent role model for other Christians to look up to and follow your example.

Amen to that! Adam Levine you ROCK!

P.S. I am a straight Grandma of Five!

Re: Kyle73 – Christian people don't always choose to be Christian. What if you were brought up that way your entire childhood? It becomes permanently drilled into your brain and your value system.
