Remember this video (above)?
It was the belle of the internet ball yesterday, so we hope so! Ha!
Lauren Conrad got sooo much flack over it. Cuz basically, it's a DIY how-to for a cute storage box that you can place on a shelf. But it involves the destruction of hardback books…
And even though she was celebrating the love of books (she even recommends using the pages for a different wall decor idea), her Crafty Creation pissed a lot of people off!
"It has always been my belief that people who spend too much time with my work end up as lost souls, drained of reason, who lead lives of raving emptiness and occasional lunatic violence. What a relief it is to see this documented."
Look, we totally understand the desire to preserve the world's books. With kindles and nooks taking over, we fear for the end of smelly pages and bent binds too. It's a nostalgia thing.
But it's not like she was burning them! Literature is art …and she just wanted to turn her purchased books into a different type of art.
Still. We wouldn't suggest trying this craft with brand new books. Donate 'em. But if you find some that are gonna be thrown away anyways (or have seen better days), we don't see the eternal damnation in wanting to immortalize them in a different way.
