Man Accidentally Shoots Himself In The Butt During Bourne Legacy Screening!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooFilm FlickersWacky, Tacky & True

This is a perfect example of why we wish people wouldn't carry guns around!

A 56-year-old man with a permit to carry a concealed firearm accidentally allowed it to fire into his butt during a screening of The Bourne Legacy in a Sparks, Nevada movie theater.

Nobody else was hurt during the incident on Tuesday night, but we imagine some people were pretty terrified when they heard that pop!

He reportedly stood up, apologized for the scare and ran out to seek medical treatment.

Cops arrived on the scene after the suspect had disappeared and later found him at the hospital. He explained that the weapon fell out of his pocket and discharged when it hit the floor.

We understand he was carrying it for protection, but does anyone else see a problem here?

What if this clumsy guy dropped his gun and it fired off into the direction of an innocent bystander? This story could have turned tragic real fast!

For now, the unnamed man is cooperating with police, but may eventually be charged with illegally discharging a firearm. At the very least, he should have that permit to carry a concealed weapon revoked!

With one story I'm suddenly ok with gun detector check points at movie theaters. Sad, but true.

The only problem is the person, not the weapon. He should have been more careful with how he secured the weapon. Don't pass judgement on why people shouldn't carry a gun around because of douchebags like this one. There are plenty of people who can and do carry guns safely and should not be criticized or punished because of the actions of others.

Why would ANYONE carry a gun in 2012 ?
The Far West is long gone !
Ban ALL guns and get civilized !

  4. 4

I agree overthere… surely we can all go to the cinema without needing to take a gun with us! I live in England and manage to go about my daily life without ever feeling the need for a gun.. I imagine I would feel much less safe if I knew that those people walking past me in the street might be carrying a gun. Seriously America, surely you have better brains than to think you need to carry a gun in your day to day lives and that you would actually be able to use it to protect yourself if a situation DID arise?! How terrifying for the other people at the cinema considering the shootings at the Batman screening just a few weeks ago?!

After I was able to stop laughing at the idiot. It is terrible that people think it is okay to carry a weapon because they have a permit. They are not police officers and this is not the wild wild west. When the gun it the floor, I'm glad it shot the dumb ass rather then a innocent person or child. I hope he does get charged with something and start to set an examole for others that think it is okay to walk around with their gun.

On the other side of this argument had guns been allowed in the Cinema in Colorado a lot less people would have died because the shooter could have been shot. Most gun oweners are very responsible

Oh Perez, the what ifs of the world will never cease. You say "What if this clumsy guy dropped his gun and it fired off into the direction of an innocent bystander?" Which I agree is a valid point. But what if the next James Holmes was in that theater and this clumsy man stopped him? What would you write about him then?

    To overthere and Nightwatch83-
No, it is not the wild west, but that doesn't mean times are any less dangerous. We have a right to protect ourselves, our children and our families. (FYI I'm not a gun owner) If you ban all guns that does not protect anyone because a criminal would still be able to get their hands on one if they really wanted one. Look at the drug issue, still illegal and yet still accessible. And Nightwatch, apparently you do need a gun or some type of protection even when going to a movie theater, prime example being Aurora, Co. Did anyone stop to think of the possiblility that if a member of that audience had a concealed weapon they could have shot back at Holmes therefore resulting in less casualites…just a thought.

Why do all of you patriots living in the LAND OF THE FREE AND HOME OF THE BRAVE feel the need to carry concealed weapons?

  11. 11

Re: pumis – Ok, theoretically, you are sitting in the 15th row in Aurora, Colorado. The house lights dim and your eyes take time to adjust, when all of a sudden, down front, the sound of womp, womp happens and a cloud of noxious fumes rises up as people down front scream and start scattering from their seats. "Ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack booms out as terror engulfs the the darkened theater. You stand up and reach for your concealed Glock under your left arm, when Perez and his mom body-slam you, squealing, shrieking, as they trample their way to the center aisle. Pandemonium ensues, and you quickly scan the the front area, but there are just too many moving, screaming, sobbing people trying to get out! And it's still dark! Oh well, maybe your trigger finger will get a chance when your do your volunteer nightly neighborhood watch thing no body asked you to do.

Banning all guns isn't the answer - look how easy it is to get drugs. Alcohol was still obtained during prohibition. Just because somebody is an idiot and doesn't know how to properly holster their gun doesn't mean the rest of us, that do know how to properly handle their weapon, should be penalized.

  13. 13

when your home is being invaded or your being robbed id surly want a gun at my side. dont be so ignorant, if you learn proper gun safety and handling ..then there is nothing wrong with it… guns dont kill people.. people kill people!

I have to post just because a coworker sent me this link. Its really sad how people are afraid of everything they dont understand. He shot himself hes an idiot, he probably didnt have the gun holstered and if he did this accident never would have happened.

Second fact that there are millions of concealed license holders and accidents never happen. Responsible people wouldnt have let this happen.

Third fact is unfortunately the media sucks, and they only cover shootings by insane people, but never really cover when people are SAVED by concealed responsible carriers. Just the past year a sheriff was saved by a bystander who happened to be armed, another case where a man similar to the movie theater went into a church and started shooting. He killed 2 people before someone with a gun shot and killed him and saved multiple lives.

Fourth fact you would be surprised how many people are actually armed around you and you would never know (thats the point of a concealed weapon)

Last but not least GUNS CANNOT FIRE BY BEING DROPPED. Its mechanically impossible.

Should we also ban all cars because someone commits at hit and run? Or knives because some idiot stabs someone? Banning guns isn't the answer. Ps. I am not a gun owner and I am liberal.

  17. 17

This is such a beyond rare occurance. The only reason why people are blowing this up is because of the biased media pushing their anti-gun crap and because americans are mindless morons that hop on one bandwagon to the next. This wasn't the guns fault. It never is. This isn't a Concealed weapons permit issue. This is simply a person issue. Guns don't magically discharge. This was simply a very very VERY rare occurance with CCLS (in fact I think these instances can be counted on ONE hand)

If the safety is on, the gun WILL NOT go off. Period. In order to get a concealed carry you MUST take a gun safety course. The first rule they teach is to always have your saftey on. This person did not have his safety on which caused it to go off. So yes, he should have his revoked. This was just the stupidity of a single person. So of course the libs will jump all over this.

  18. 18

"What if this clumsy guy dropped his gun and it fired off into the direction of an innocent bystander?" THAT..WILL..NEVER..HAPPEN. Guns do not magically go off when dropped. Even if the safety is not on.

Re: overthere – because we can.
Re: Mrs. Mmoa – Everyday you see more and more stories about cops being out of control and abusing their power. You're an idiot if you think we should disarm ourselves and only allow cops to carry weapons. Looking at cops track records (the ones that aren't covered up) you'll notice when it comes to "peace officers", cops are less worthy of carrying guns than civilians.

Oh also for all of the "zomg ban ALL guns" idiotic liberals..Gun deaths don't even hit the top 30 leading causes of death. Most are unhealthy diet related, CAR ACCIDENTS, ILLEGAL drug overdoses and accidents in general. All surpass gun deaths. It's amazing how little anti-gunners actually know about firearms. They can't even acknowledge statistics and they want to take peoples rights away? LOL

Re: NookiesWA – Thank you - wish I had kept one of my late husband's guns after he passed away, but had to sell them to pay the rent for a few more months. Had some beautiful shotguns, one rifle and 3 handguns. I only shot the shotguns when we went bird hinting.

Time to stop the hysterical over reacting people. All that this incident proves is that old gun guys like 1911 style hammer fired/thumb safety guns. These guns are terribly antiquated and dangerous, especially if not carried in a proper holster. If it is cocked and locked with a hair trigger, it takes almost nothing to flip that safety off. This idiot had it in his pocket on top of all that. He had no business carrying a handgun in his pocket. Stupid.

A modern, safe action, striker fired handgun that is properly holstered is no danger at all to the carrier or those around him. Even with a round in the chamber, that gun could be dropped, thrown at a wall, or stepped on and it would not go off. Only trigger manipulation would set it off. As for the realities of the necessity of guns in modern society, that is a long discussion involving humankind's long and glorious history of oppression and tyranny against those that want someone else to be responsible for their own personal defense.

Re: overthere – Yes, and there are no more violent crimes not involving guns EVER, right? Sheesh. As soon as we rid the world of evil intent, your idea just might work. Oh, right, that won't ever happen.
