JK Rowling The Casual Vacancy Adult Novel Charles Dickens Comparisons 2 Million Advance Copies

Talk about your Great Expectations!

The Casual Vacancy is the first book J.K. Rowling wrote since penning a tiny children's series called Harry Potter giving birth to the most massively popular franchise of young adult novels this galaxy ever saw.

It hits shelves September 27 and, needless to say, the entire muggle-born world is curious to see how this plays out!

Two million hardcover copies of Vacancy have casually been pre-ordered and, flop or not, we expect even more will sell!

Rowling's American publisher Michael Pietsch think the "blackly comic" novel is bound for greatness.

He promised:

"[Reading the 512-page novel] reminded me of Dickens because of the humanity, the humor, the social concerns, the intensely real characters."

Michael omitted to mention his salary likely increases relative to her book sales!

No advance copies have been leaked so we don't know much about the plot other than it revolves around a small English town and the many relationships within.

We sincerely hope it doesn't leave us scratching our heads asking, "What the Dickens did we just read?"

I haven't read any of the Potter books, but I might read this one. I don't do Young Adult books because I"m not young, but it will be interesting to see if JK can do the transition.

She's the only person in the world that makes me think some people are born for greatness. I love her as an author and love her for bringing magic into my life. :)

Re: stefystef – J.K. Rowling is a literary genius. The transition will be much harder for the market and the media than it was for Rowling. She's a goddess at storytelling.
