We guess even though even though the general public - and even some of his fellow staffers - aren't too happy with him, HE is STILL calling the shots around the set of The Today Show!
Even though the entire cast was invited to appear on Piers Morgan Tonight a week after their competition besting them in the ratings, Good Morning America, did so, it was apparently Matt Lauer who once again decided that NO ONE would be sitting down with the Brit on his CNN show…all because he didn't want to be asked about being behind the firing of Ann Curry!
An insider explains:
"Producers contacted the executive producers of The TODAY Show to discuss the possibility of having Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Morales and Al Roker appear on Piers Morgan's show as the cast of Good Morning America was on his last week. Matt told the executive producers he didn't think it was a good idea for them to appear on Piers' show because he didn't want to get asked about Ann Curry. Ann is turning out to be a thorn in Matt's side and he thinks it's unfair he has been portrayed as being responsible for her being fired from the show. Matt doesn't want to do any press for the time being and feels the show has nothing to gain by doing group interviews, so the invitation was turned down. [He is] hoping that coverage of the presidential political conventions will put TODAY back on top in the ratings. It really irks him that since the Olympics, GMA has beaten his show in the ratings."
Hey! He can be irked all he likes, but actions have consequences!
And we think one such consequence is the sour taste he left in viewers' mouths after the mess he caused this summer!
Frankly, we doubt he was worried about Piers questioning him about Ann Curry as he was about what Al Roker might have to say about the entire debacle!
We don't buy NBC's statements about his "under the bus" comments for a SECOND!
What do U think?? Who else is curious to see how this all plays out?
