Clay Aiken Ignites A Twitter Feud With Country Singer John Rich Over RNC Joke

If Celebrity Apprentice really does follow in the footsteps of Dancing With The Stars and has an all-star season, we hope these two join the cast!
Thanks to a Republican National Convention joke, Clay Aiken ignited a Twitter feud with country singer and Celebrity Apprentice winner John Rich on Tuesday night. The American Idol alum tweeted:
Playing drinking game with my brother now. We drink every time we see a black person on screen at the RNC convention.
#soberasamormon— Clay Aiken (@clayaiken) August 29, 2012
Mr. Rich did not find the joke "racist comments" to be very amusing and responded with:
"
@clayaiken:@cowboytroy We drink every time we see a black person at the RNC//CLAY! You should be ashamed for racist comments like THAT!WOW.— John Rich (@johnrich) August 29, 2012
After challenging Clay to remove the post and reassuring the singer that he was "better than that", Rich added:
And to finish it off,
@clayaiken hashtags soberasamormon? I thought your charity was for inclusion, not EXCLUSION. What happened?— John Rich (@johnrich) August 29, 2012
That's when Clay decided to strike back with this clever comeback:
My charity is. Why isn't your party? ;-)
@johnrich:@clayaikenI thought your charity was for inclusion, not EXCLUSION. What happened?— Clay Aiken (@clayaiken) August 29, 2012
Oh snap!
Ultimately, the entire basis of the exchange is kind of silly to us. It sounds like Clay was initially accusing the GOP of being racist, which is why there wouldn't be very many African Americans attending their convention, but then John went ahead and accused Clay of being racist for daring to joke about possible racism within the conservative political party.
So based on John Rich's logic, we're afraid we may have just said something racist. LOLz!
We're just so confused! Let us know (below) if U think Clay Aiken's comment was actually racist or if John Rich is just offended because of the jab at the GOP!

Since Clay is gay being racist is excusable right?
With that said, his tweet was funny. And true, people need to calm down
How is that tweet racist? Pointing out that the RNC is pretty much a old white guy meeting isn't a crime. Clay is right, there are very few black people or minorities there. Plus his tweet was funny. I think John Rich is being a little sensitive.
Clay was not being racist at all. John Rich is just pissed because Clay is right.
Re: misscheriamor –
Really you should watch the convention before you comment - ever hear of Mia Love, Condi Rice, Mark Sandoval, Nicki Haley, Suzanne martinez, Adam West, Artur Davis, Kelli Ayotte - just some of the "minorities" at the convention who were speakers - many more in the audience.
As a black person I applaud the fuck outta Clay Aiken. I'm sure him and his brother were stone cold drunk afterward. I think John is just real pissed off because Clay is right and he just shown a spotlight on the fact that the RNC is made up of old, white, balding rich white men looking for tax cuts anyway they can.
And by stone cold drunk I mean stone cold sober. lol
Pretty sure if John Rich had tweeted what Clay did - he would be accused of being racist. Clay = gay= ok to be racist??????
Kant there a new story about a few attendees who through nuts at a black camera woman and said "that's what we feed the animals"? Whether the popular response from the Republican party is they arent racist, they need to evaluate their policies and beliefs since they seem to attract them like flies to honey.
I will act as translator for Aiken's comment to Rich who sounds like he ain't too bright upstairs:
"Dude, we take a drink for every Black person we see at on screen @ RNC and consequently we are still cold sober! "
WOWWWWWWWWWWW It's ok to be racist but its NOT ok to hate on homos. Perez seriously has a skewed perception.
John Rich is an egomaniacal asshole and lacks reading comprehension. In NO Way was Clay being racist. He was accusing the GOP of lacking people of color in their convention. If John had READ the tweet and thought about it - he would have reacted differently. Clay Aiken is the furthest thing from a racist and to suggest otherwise is completely ludicrous. JOHN, read the tweet. You were wrong and owe Mr. Aiken an apology.
Clay is right…John Rich is pissed because the RNC and the crazy right wing just got called out. I'm glad Clay stood his ground…no way he was being racist. #TeamAiken…
John Rich needs to point his agner to the "white men" that were throwing peanuts at a AA women that worked for CNN, yelling "this is how we feed the animals". Now that was racist.
that wasnt racist at all…. that guy is soo really dumb….
Ummmmm…am I the only one who sees that John Rich didn't understand Aiken's original tweet? Rich clearly thought he was championing black people, when all he was actually doing was unintentionally revealing that he's not the sharpest pencil in the box. Or proving that drinking and tweeting don't mix.
WOW.. first time i've commented on this website and last time i will visit. I guess it's "funny" when a liberal makes a racist remark. Amazing!!! If a conservative/republican would have said that, everyone would have gone crazy and NOT claimed it was just a joke.. Hypocrites….BS….
Exactly, HaveAseat!
…and Masterclass.
Hypocrit Clay
you're funny both ways: funny ha ha and funny queer, how's that for a joke?! Ohhhhh too mean? but i'm latina/minority so my joke is acceptable
What Clay said is the OPPOSITE of being racist! Why is it that Republicans can't read or comprehend a written statement? Baffling! No sense of humor either. But, most of their married men like to take it up the ass with men. But, they're not gay. Riiiight!
Re: republican/minority /F – Making a comment about race and making a "RACIST COMMENT" are two different things and I wish people would understand the difference. (that includes you John Rich, and I admire you.)
A racial comment is a comment that mentions a person's race. A RACIST comment is a comment that condemns or shows hatred towards another due to their race.
Big difference folks.
I thought Clay was an only child???
Anyone who says that what Clay tweeted is racist is an uneducated Republican MORON.
I don't understand how Clay's comment was racist at all.. John Rich doesn't seem to have much of a sense of humor. He was probably so easily offended because there's truth to Clay's statement lol..
John Rich is a classic republican… he can't stand the truth, so he throws out the "no, YOU are the racist" statement. It's what they do. They've got nothing else to fight with, so they just try to turn the tables. Sadly, it's really obvious and it's clearly a desperate act by a person who can't accept what his political party is really all about. It's not Clay's fault that there are very few black people at the RNC! Just because someone points out the racism that is running rampant in the republican party doesn't mean a "playground" reply is appropriate. Silly republicans!
Clearly Rich can't read, nor does he have a sense of humor. It was a low blow to pull Clay's charity into the discussion and probably the only reason Clay responded with that devastating few words that cut to the chase. Rich owes this decent guy an apology. he showed no class here. Aiken is as far from racist as a person can be.
Has anyone who commented actually watched the Convention? There are a serious number of blacks, hispanics and a mixed soup. So Clay got drunk if he was watching when I was. The truth hurts the liberals so they like to live in the past. Fact is, they are only hurting our country so stop whining and focus in on what's really important. It's the deficit you jerks.
Clay is wrong. Way wrong. If anyone is keeping up witb the convention it has been said thag most networks are editing out/ not showing speeches and appearances of ethnic and minorties in attendance. Nice try though…the GOP is being edited, they arent racist.
I am on Clay's side! He was making a joke! The reason the joke was funny,is because its true! I noticed it myself, there are "very VERY few black people at the Republican Convention! "I am not racist" My family is 80 percent black!
Its just a fact ………….and Clay said just what I was thinking!
Funny that Letterman and Leno said the same thing in their monologues that night. So had other people writing in news articles. Many noticed. Clay is definitely not a racist. John Rich made more out of this than was actually there. I thought he was smart, but obviously needs to take a course in reading comprehension. He does owe Clay an apology for taking a stab at Clay's charity. There was another tweet that Clay sent that was not put in this story.
Clay Aiken @clayaiken
@johnrich I think that a party that is hoping to represent and lead a country as diverse as America is should not be homogenous as the GOP

Clay was stating the obvious. Good for you Clay!
Libtards live for stirring the racist pot of shit. They are liars and thieves. Now fuckoff and crawl back under your rock Mario.
GOD BLESS America! I had no idea people were so stupid? Educate yourself people, (only to the stupid people) a large majority of African Americans vote democrat. That is just a true statement idots (just to the dummys). Re: Ohiogirl – I wonder if someone that can look up so many names really know so little. Yes the RNC march out their intelligent blacks for the convention. Do you KNOW anything about CONDI RICE? I admired her brilliance and education. On the record she went before congress and said she mislead the public and congress on the war. (of course she was only taking the fall for Bush) On 127 occasions she admitted to being less than "clear" about foreign affairs. She was being called the "house Ni####" by the white house because they could use her to frighten congress into the Patriot act, war…whatever and she was the smartest one in the room and did it anyway. Yes the RNC marching out people they use makes them equal.
Re: Prince Charming – How is this racist. He was saying the RNC was racist????
I'm not sure Aiken's initial comment was racist… but, it definitely was ignorant. I'm so sick of this anti-Republican bullsh*t we see on Perez Hilton everyday. If we want politics, we'll go to CNN or FoxNews. Just because someone's opinion is different than yours, doesn't make it wrong. That's why the U.S. is so great, we all have the right to form our own opinion and vote accordingly. Oh wait, that's right, Obama and his cronies don't believe that America is exceptional… he tries to gain favor with Europe by badmouthing the U.S. every chance he gets.
I love how the GOP claims to be diverse when out of approx 70,000 attendees only about 7 of them are black…now I'm no math expert but isn't that .0001 percent??? Just sayin….
You bring up the race card and you might be a racist unless you're a Democrat, then it's just a joke or observation. Give me a break, it was racist. It was in poor taste and it wasn't even a correct observation.
how the hell is making a clever comment about the lack of ethnic minority representation in one of the biggest political parties in the WORLD racist? god that word is thrown about way too much, just because teenage white girls say "I only see one race. the human race
xox" doesn't mean that your ethnic background no longer has a difference on your place in society!!! wake up people, racism is alive and well
Labeling an entire party as racist is uneccessary and untrue. Why are Americans tolerant of labeling each other? They preach equality for all yet they put each other down so often and harshly. Why have they allowed their televisions to determine what is truth? We all put our pants on the same way people. Let's stop dividing our country into two whether it's black/white, gay/straight, atheist/Christian, Dem/Rep….we have to stop segregating ourselves. We are all in this together so act like it!!!!!
Jonh Rich is just a bigoted homophobe.
It is funny that they(gays) want to be equal but they REALLY dont!! EVERYONE is racist some way or another!!
I have found it pretty amazing the people standing behind Obuma at his speech's! Hang with the rich you become rich, hang with the poor and you will become poor!! I will stick to the GOP!!!
Just for the record–Clay has a younger half-brother.
Re: Elizabeth – hahahaha wait, you're tired of one sided bullshit political coverage on this site, and then suggest that we should watch CNN or fucking FOX NEWS for politics? is that a joke? Please, if anyone is guilty of "just because someones opinion is different from yours doesn't mean its not true" it's fox news. they are the most ignorant, one sided new network we have.
Re: Yenkme – how is this defending your party? one, it is completely false, you can't just hang out with someone rich or poor and become the same as them, you either are born into a family with money or work hard to make money, you can't simply "hang out" with them. also, being in a certain party doesn't make you rich or poor, there are plenty rich democrats (although I really don't think I can say the same with poor republicans, those are hard to find). finally, your comment is the reason so many people hate republicans, because they think you all think that way. while many of you do, I know not all republicans think like that, and you are just playing into the stereotype, congratulations.
The GOP is not smart enough to GET IT. And that's the point. I applaud anyone who calls them out on their racism, homophobia, class exclusion and for being the biggest bigots ever seen.
They want to undo everything ever done for equality. They believe equality is not entitled by the constitution. Seriously. They want a two class society. And if you are BLACK, HISPANIC, ARAB, ASIAN and god forbid,a WOMAN, you can only guess which 'class' you will be. WE NEED TO CALL THEM OUT ON ALL OF THIS. START WATCHING THEIR RHETORIC, AND 'NEWS' ON FOX AND GO TO THEIR WEBSITES AND YOU WILL BE APPALLED AT WHAT THEY ARE BRAZEN ENOUGH TO SAY. This is not the time to be complacent.
Wow Clay… You are so wrong on this one. What you said is very racist.. What people like you don't understand is that the Republican party has come a long way and will continue to make strides with social issues. Many Republicans I know now days have no problem with the LGBT community or gay marriage, but you guys want to bash anyone that doesn't believe in it for religious reasons…. And obviously by watching the RNC convention, yes, you can see more minorities than ever in the party. I think it's ridiculous that you think every black person should be a Democrat… People have minds of their own!! Maybe they really believe in what Condi Rice, Mia Love, Marco Rubio, and other minorities that are Republicans have to say..
Looks like Rich was drinking and drunk again! Either that or he just lacks reading skills.
No way was Clay’s tweet racist! Letterman, Leno, Colbert, etc. made similar observations so they must be racist‘s too. Rich does owe Clay an apology! Maybe a big donation to Clay’s charity.
Re: cap chick – Clay's tweet was in now way racist. I'm Black and i live in Tampa i've been over in the convention area. the only black people over there are the ones protesting or hustling selling stuff (tshirts stickers that kinda stuff). Now there are black republicans but they are so few and far between that it hardly makes a difference. Besides….that totally sounds like a joke i'd make and i find it hard to be racist against one's own race.
Re: Ohiogirl – best comment
considering that peanuts were thrown at a black camera woman while people yelled 'that's how we feed animals' and that the governor of puerto rico couldn't be heard through the 'usa' chants, i'd say clay hit the nail on the head…not all republicans are racist…but, if you're racist, you're a republican.
Re: V.V – heywere not n the audience as part of thedelegates and observers, they wee speakers.
Re: v.v –
It's sad that Clay tweeted this racist comment…first of all the network channels purposely did not air the black and hispanic speakers speeches, instead they went to their commentators while those speeches were going on…the other thing is that their cameras scanned the audience and hand-picked the "old rich white guys" that fit the liberal agenda's stereotype of the "old rich white guy" Republican. Just changing the channel for a few minutes during the commentaries to Fox News you see a whole different picture….you see blacks and hispanics speaking and many blacks and difference ethnicities and ages being scanned in the audience. I was disappointed that Clay was so classless as to refer to "hunting for blacks in the audience" for the drinking game and then insult someone's religion on top of it. He's hiding his insult behind supposed humor instead of just being a real man and saying what he thinks is wrong, how very passive aggressive and childish and then to cry victim when those he's insulted fight back. Clay was in the wrong - both because it was rude, and 2nd because his accusation was factually wrong….he just was watching a news channel that purposely skewed the RNC to present people in a stereotypical way to suit their agenda.
Again, let me act as translator for Aiken's comment so even the dumbest republican can understand it.
"Dude, we take a drink for every Black person we see on screen @ RNC and consequently we are still cold sober! "
Is it Clay's fault he didn't see any black folks? nope.
Clay's a liberal, so he couldn't possibly be racist. Liberals are the good guys.
Re: Emily – THANK YOU!!
