The Dark Knight Rises To Meet The Avengers In The Billion Dollar Club!

| Filed under: Film FlickersBusiness Blitz

Holy SHIZ! It is one good day to be a superhero!

The Dark Knight Rises has reportedly pulled in $431.2 million domestically, and $574 overseas…which combined, makes it the 13th film ever to total over a billion dollars, with an estimated, collective $1.005!

And yes, that means the the concluding chapter the Christopher Nolan-directed Batman trilogy has beaten its predecessor, The Dark Knight, which made $1.003 billion back in 2008!

Meanwhile, its action companion this summer The Avengers has now passed $1.5 BILLION worldwide in its 19th week released globally, and is now officially the world's THIRD biggest movie OF ALL TIME, with only Titanic and Avatar standing in its way!

James Cameron better enjoy his throne while he has it, though!

We have a feeling that The Avengers 2 will be coming for him HARD when it's released in a few years!

I love the Joker, but I think one of the reasons this film is doing so well is that they gave Batman a villain who could physically challenge him in a fight. This is why Batman vs Bane is doing so well overseas.

Those all time figures dont take into account INFLATION so theyre not really accurate. Comparing films box office takes over 10 years apart sometimes. Titanic and the early Harry potter films would be hugely higher with inflation taken into account.

Do people really think that the Avengers would have beaten TDKR if it had no been released in 3D? The Avengers was a "good time" but it definitely does not have the storyline TDKR does. TDKR was one of the best movies I have ever seen and was well worth the time and money spent to go see it. TDKR had a lot of adversity as well…with the large shooting occurring at one of it's showings.

Want to mention that I am definitely not a Batman fangirl, I was recently exposed to the Batman story and honestly only seen TDK for Heath Ledger, but I am very well educated (now) on Batman and can say that the Avengers can keep it's shiny effects and 3D, I'll take Nolan's awesome story line and amazing ending any day. Grats on hitting a billion, TDKR! :)

Oh yeah, I agree with you, PHWOARR. :)

Re: Hallas – Yeah, but moving going is also very different, so can't compare any of it honestly, even if you take inflation into account. So many things can taken into account, like the "battle" between The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers for example, so many differences between those films. The Avengers is a shorter film, better for kids so has a larger pool of movie goers to draw from, namely families and of course the 3D upcharge, which here is almost $4 a ticket. Then of course TDKR had the shooting on opening night which you can't deny hurt it's box office domestically, even more so on that side of the country. So see can't compare apples to oranges. Because if you want to make that argument no movie compares to Gone With The Wind at the box office…so yeah.
