Taylor Swift Gets Emotional Performing Her NEW Song Ronan

| Filed under: Music MinuteInspirationSad SadTaylor SwiftHealth

Hauntingly beautiful!

Written for a four-year-old boy named Ronan, Taylor Swift performed her new song in his namesake at the star-studded Stand Up 2 Cancer event.

You see… Ronan was unfortunately one of the unlucky ones who passed away from his cancer. But then one day, Swifty read a blog entry from his website and was inspired to write a song for him. She even got a lil' help writing the ballad from Ronan's mother. Tears!

But while the sad song may have poked our tear-ducts, it's also inspiring the money-ducts to donate!

If you buy the single off iTunes right now, ALL proceedings go straight to cancer-related charities! And we always feel better about ourselves when we help others!

You can also go straight to Stand Up 2 Cancer's website to learn more about how U can get involved and raise awareness for the cause.

Wow. That was a really beautiful, touching song.

  2. 2

That's probably the best song she's written so far, it made me tear up. I'm really getting excited for her album now.

And what about all the others suffering and dying from cancer who never get exploited by a singer for a hit? Instead of having a sloppy cry-fest, we ought to demand that our government force the pharm companies to hand over the cure they found ages ago. There's big business in research, even if the research is pointless.
    .
"And we always feel better about ourselves when we help others!" Really? Since when? All you do is centered around putting money in your bank account and trying to get famous. You serve YOU and your interests. When is the last time you did anything on your own that went toward a truly worth cause? You're a selfish,self-centered asshole.

The lyrics were beautiful but the melody limped along & was forgettable.

love that Ronan…. most of the words to the song have been taken from his mama's real life words written on her blog over the last few years… so eloquent and heartbreaking actually hearing them stringed together in a song. :)

    Re: Yes You Bore Me
You did read that all the proceeds from the song go to cancer related charities, right? Technically she's not making any money in direct relation to this song and the boy's mother helped her write it. Also, you need to relax. If you're easily offended or take yourself too seriously you shouldn't be reading Perez in the first place. Just by you being here is helping him with his career that you so obviously disagree with. Don't like it? Think he's an asshole? Then stop reading his blog.

Re: Katie – I know, I loved hearing Maya's words being sung. Hearing Taylor sing that song made me feel so happy for Maya and Woody to get this kind of recognition for Ronan.

Re: Yes You Bore Me – She didn't exploit his death for a hit. The proceeds from this song are going towards charity, and there's a good chance this song won't even be on her upcoming album. Not every celebrity is a selfish bad guy. Get off your high horse.

Re: Yes You Bore Me – I am so sick of selfish dumb people too… but unfortunately for you, you're the selfish asshole here. The whole point of special is to bring attention to this disease that so many people are suffering from. Taylor wrote a song about a real boy who passed away instead of just singing one of her own songs to promote herself. I am by no means a Taylor fan but this song and video moved me tears, not once but multiple times. I just recently lost my grandmother to Cancer and have lost a great uncle to it as well. My other grandmother is a Breast Cancer survivor and now her brother has colon cancer. I fail to see how bringing attention to a disease and showing people what actually is happening to others who are suffering with it and their families is exploiting them. The proceeds went to cancer research and hopefully the stories (including Taylor's performance) made many people realize what it is like seeing someone in your family battle such a vicious disease.

  13. 13

Lump in my throat. What a sad and wonderful song which I hope raises much more money for Cancer research.

  14. 14

Re: Yes You Bore Me – You obviously missed the point of this story completely. Your life must be a long progressive discovery of your own ignorance.

  15. 15

Taylor just keeps getting better. Her ability to touch people through music is an amazing gift from God. All this for a good cause as well. Like the boys mother said her heart is golden.

Whats almost just as depressing is that shes struggling singing the only 5 notes in the song. She really is awful live. Good message though, very thoughtful

Wow. That made me cry my eyes out. Happy to see all the profits are going to charity. Taylor's at her best when she's not bitching about her love life.

I would think that if you were going to sing at an event which is telling stories of families and children struggling to fight cancer and stay alive( many of those children and adults in the audience by the way) ….you would pick a song or write a song with an uplifting message. That little boy that is battling brain cancer was just staring at her and I wondered what was going through his head as she talked about a four year old dying . Not a bad acting job by Swift but some people need to get a clue and actually check who their audience is . I still think she's a God awful singer but obviously she's as lucky as hell to achieve what she has with such limited talent.

Re: barb – Never thought of that! Although it's a beautiful song, it made me cry for sure, i can't even imagine what some of the audience members were thinking.

    Re: barb
Never ever thought of that either. Now I think it was in very poor taste.

  24. 24

Re: barb – So we should forget about those people who do lose the battle to cancer instead? I see your point but I have to disagree. The reality is that cancer can be conquered and beaten but not everyone survives and we cannot forget about the fact that we need to stand up to cancer not just for those people still battling it but for those who also didn't beat it. I think paying tribute to a little boy who lost his battle is just as important as making sure you provide hope for those who are still fighting it.

    Re: barb

I think Swift got more caught-up in preparing for her tearful performance than she did on song selection. Things like this happen when fans give her a pass on singing, songwriting and her life. It's obvious that she gave the camera person instructions to move in and get a close-up of her eye-rain. Taylor you're busted on this routine.

  26. 26

an actual tune would be nice..

  27. 27

Barb-just go jump in a hole bitch.

  28. 28

I find it completely sickening that some people are commenting on this about Taylors singing, or saying she's doing it to become more popular. It's disgusting. This song was wrote by her and Ronan's mother, a nearly 4 year old boy who died of a painful cancer. She is raising awareness and also honouring Ronan in a song that people all over the world will know for years to come, think how much that means to Ronan's parents.
So for everyone who doesn't like Taylor Swift and can't help but being cruel, she's a FAR better person than you are for bad mouthing a song about the memory of an amazingly brave little boy. This song is amazing, and I hope there's a cure very soon for this terrible disease.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of her's and it's hard to take her seriously with all the talk of "god" and whatnot, but I have to admit, even though I've heard enough about this already and I can't bring myself to listen to the song, the bottom line is, she is donating funds from the song to cancer organizations and that's a good thing.

Re: MB – Funding a good cause is good and all. But Taylor Swift and her fans are overly dramatic. There are kids suffering and dying everyday, don't pretend you don't know that already.

There sure are some horrible comments on this story. Most seem to be okay but you Taylor Swift haters can all go to Hell. Maybe you'll get cancer just for what you said. Perez really should police the comments on his site and ban all haters. The Internet isn't really worth going on now with so many morons commenting on articles. Taylor Swift wrote this song for Ronan's mom and to raise money to fight cancer. She isn't making a cent from it.

  32. MB says – reply to this

    32

Re: givemeabreak – My mom died of cancer a few years ago at the age of 54 after fighting for a few months, thinking she had a chance and then being told sorry. She was gone 3 months later.

I know they're way over dramatic, and I agree that this song in particular might not be the best thing to sing to people looking for hope, I guess, but it's definitely not a bad thing that she is donating anything she makes off that song, which is/was #1 on Itunes to cancer related things.

This song is such a beautiful and raw description of what its like to lose a child. I am so grateful to taylor for using her social standing to actually do good and highlight important issues such as childhood cancer. I think it is so disappointing that she is one of the rare celebs her age who actually do something about raising awareness and money for causes. It doesnt matter if you're not a fan of her personally but you have to agree that she does soo much to give back. To those people who didnt like the song (which i find strange) i ask you to go onto rockstarronan.com and see how much this song meant to this little boys family. Taylor not only put a face to childhood cancer, but she gave the family a legacy for her son to be carried on throughout the world.

I am just seating here sick to my stomach reading some of these comments. Commenting on her singing abilities and so forth. Really?! Is this really what it comes down to? Not bringing more awareness to Childhood Cancer?? God forbid any of your children become stricken with this horrible monster called cancer! I wouldn't wish this on my very worst enemy! The Pediatric Cancer community is extremely excited about Taylor putting a spotlight on Childhood Cancer…we needed this so very badly. It is extremely under-funded. But..yet again..some people just don't "get it".
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month…are you aware?

Re: Tomter – I agree , she has no vocal range and as far as playing the guitar, she only plays 4 chords on that too! What I found strange is this comes out right before her new album comes out. She always does this before an album, last one said a song got "leaked" out, this year she released it(we are never getting back together) But still, the idea in nice that it ALL goes the cause of cancer where I think the practice concert before her Speak Now tour where she sold tickets to only part of it went to the tornado victims. Her mgmt company does well promoting her.
