Randy Newman: I'm Dreaming Of A White President

| Filed under: Music MinutePolitikBarack Obama

Randy Newman, the fingers on the piano and voice behind You've Got A Friend In Me, has released a new song called I'm Dreaming.

Don't expect to hear this in the next Toy Story movie though. It's a politically charged satire of (some) Americans' desire for a "more qualified white man" to be president again.

In a press release that discusses opposition to Barack Obama simply because of his skin color, the songwriter explained:

"I think there are a lot of people who find it jarring to have a black man in the White House and they want him out. They just can’t believe that there’s not a more qualified white man. You won’t get anyone, and I do mean anyone, to admit it.”

Despite his fears of receiving backlash from conservatives, Newman has made the song available on his website. In exchange for the free download though, he's dreaming his fans will donate to the United Negro College Fund.

We can get on board with that, so click HERE for the download and HERE to make a donation!

    1. Randy Newman is the man
    2. Obama plays up the whole race card big time, yet, we're supposed to be up in arms over this comment? Obama is on only half black as it is (his mom was white), so would it be wrong if you were call him white?

You idiot. The donation is patronizing. He wants a qualified white man who will be educated. And is telling black people to go get an education. Tying together the donation with this download sends the wrong message.

If you don't support gay marriage or Black/Hispanic dependance on welfare, you are a rasist.

I find Obama to be by far the sexiest man that has ever graced the white house. But…. He isn't bouncing the economy back, we are actually far worse than Bush years. I dare a cashier at a grocery store to stand up for Obama. The illegal emigrants eat steal and lobster, while that cashier that actually tries ways bread, soup, store brand food items, while losers that make babies for sport and welfare are at Costco with 5 children enjoying more $$$ foods. Now…. WHY IN THE HE'LL DO WE WANT MORE YEARS. OH, BTW I DO BELIEVE WE SHOULD PAY FOR THEIR ABORTIONS. EXTERMINATE !

This race rhetoric is such bullshit. It should be about someone's character and qualifications not RACE. So sick of every other article being about race. It is so over used and we can thank the media for that.

Obama is sinking this country FAST. We are NOT better off. We are being thrown into debt oblivium and will be OWNED by other countries the rate Obama is going. He is wreckless and most of you are dumb enough to buy into his Kume By Yah lie. We are in DEEP trouble and Obama will see to it that we fail if he gets second term.

I love Randy Newman. Brilliant songwriter and poignant satirist IMO. Deserves so much more success/respect than he's gotten and that's saying something for a guy who's already a 2 time Oscar Winner, multiple Grammy and multiple Emmy winner. I hope people don't use this song alone to judge him personally. Since this song is getting so much more attention than Newsman's songs usually get, there are probably a lot of people listening who are unfamiliar with his style/have very little exposure to his work as a solo artist (most people know him from Movies and TV soundtracks). As much as I like it, I can see where people might get heated about it. To understand Newman, you really have to understand his 40+ year career, or at the least be informed of the nature of his body of work (outside of soundtracks). It's too much to get into here, but, long story short, it wouldn't be the first time Newsman's riled people up because they assumed too much too quickly. Context is your best friend when listen to Newman.

I'm white, & I TRULY do not care he's black. I actually like him much more than Bush, more than Mitt, & almost as much as Clinton. I don't care who gets in there in the future, as far as race/sex goes, but just someone who is gonna get sh*t done. Someone who truly cares.

WelL, it is called the WHITE House, after all.
