Taylor Swift Signs On To Play Joni Mitchell!

| Filed under: Film FlickersTaylor SwiftGolden GlobesGrammysOscarsAri Graynor

Taylor Swift Joni Mitchell

It's official!!

Taylor Swift has signed on to play legendary folk singer Joni Mitchell in upcoming flick Girls Like Us!

We first heard Swifty wanted to be in the movie back in April. The film's producers refused to officially hand over the part until very recently.

Perhaps the success of her latest single, We're Never Ever Getting Back Together, gave her the edge!

Girls Like Us will feature a look inside the life and career of Joni Mitchell, along with fellow singers, Carly Simon and Carole King.

As of now, they haven't cast the other leading roles, but we hear Alison Pill, Olivia Thirby, Ari Graynor and Zoe Kazan will test for the role of King. And actresses,Allison Williams, Jessica Pare and Analeigh Tipton are fighting to play Simon.

This flick could have a HUGE impact on T-Swift's career. Playing a real person is always a challenge, but if done right it can be VERY rewarding awarding!

Taylor already has a Grammy, could she be after a Golden Globe and an Oscar too??

    They paved paradise..?

Jimmy Page once called her one of the most beautiful women who had actually had soul in the world…

  2. 2

Joni sings like a sparrow, Taylor sings like a dying cat. I can see the resemblance, but they couldn't have picked someone whose acting credit includes something other than the worst part of Valentine's Day? I can only hope that they dub her.

  3. 3

Are there going to actually be songs in this movie? And if so, are they going to have the actors sing or will they just use real song tracks? That could make up my mind on this.
Otherwise, I'm kind of excited to see how Taylor will do. I really don't know much about Joni Mitchell or her music, so I'm way more excited to see about the casting for Carole King, but I'm still interested in this movie.

this could work, first they will all have to scrub their faces. none of these ladies wore much if any makeup. saw Joni with dylan a few years back, she's still beautiful.

This is tragic!!! Taylor Swift can somewhat sing, and I don't hold much hope for her acting abilities. Joni Mitchell is a legend and she should be played by someone equally amazing!

Honor both artists, Mitchell and Swift, by comparing them at the same age. Don't underestimate Ms Swift's acting ability. She's been involved in theater since grade-school. Have you ever seen one of her concerts? WOW!! Her concerts are extremely elaborate, well-blocked, broadway-quality, light, sound, costume and music extravaganzas meant to elicit particular emotions to great effect. I can imagine a mature Joni Mitchell and a perceptive Taylor Swift sitting down together, teacher and student, and having a profound conversation about life and music. Will the Circle Be Unbroken? This production will shine a transcendent light upon Joni Mitchell and her musical sisters — I can't hardly wait for the release.

Poor Joni Mitchell. I bet Taylor put up some money to get the part. She will be terrible. They women in the movie are women of substance and talent. And the actresses they are considering for the other roles are serious actresses. Now that she has signed on, the whole damned movie will be focussed on her, Taylor Swift and not Jni Mitchell at all. She should stick to the garbage roles like Valentines Day. Those cameos are about all she's worth.

  9. 9

Her concerts are garbage. Who are you, her PR? I know perez gets paid to promote her, but the comments section should at least be honest.

Re: lemonbird – You poor, sad, tragic little boy. You have my sympathy. Ms Swift's artistry makes me happy, and makes many others happy, and I need make no apologies for appreciating her music and her positive impact on the world. What makes you happy? Anything? Please, please, enlighten us all with tales of YOUR grand accomplishments, instead of tearing down your betters. Perhaps you can post a link to your latest album? Send us a photo of the hot chick you're currently dating? Stock tips that led to your multimillion fortune? Oh, I see. I repeat my sympathy, and hope that you find your way in the world before much longer. God Bless You, whether you believe in him or not.

I read a few months ago that there was a possibility of Taylor Swift signing on to play Joni Mitchell and I really hoped it wouldn't happen. Disappointed. Taylor is nice and a great girl, but she is nothing like Joni Mitchell. Joni's songs and voice go to a whole other dimension. True, Taylor is a great songwriter, but hers is a completely different style. It's like letting Van Halen play Jimi Hendrix. It will be a shame if they use dubbed over voices but that's the only way Taylor's voice could even come close to Joni's.

Oh, this world. You said it right, Taylor!
    "Everybody's waiting for you to breakdown;
    Everybody's watching to see the fallout;
    Even when you're sleeping,
    Keep your eyes open"

You did nothing to them, but all they are is mean. Even now you haven't done it, and it means it's not yet proven to be god or bad, they "try" hard to get you down, which also means you are ABOVE them! Stay fearless, Taylor!

Dr Antogai, My husband never bought me anything if it wasn’t a holiday or birthday and even then never bought me anything good. I had been eyeing this three stone diamond & ruby necklace for sometime, never mentioned it to him but often thought about what it would be like to have him surprise me with something like that. I requested the receive a gift money spell and two days later my husband surprised me with the exact necklace I had been looking at. I had never even told him about that necklace. That same day he had given me the gift of taking me shopping for a new dress (to wear with the new necklace), a day at the spa and the most romantic dinner we have ever had! thanks to, antogaispelltemple@yahoo.com

She is already going after Oscars with "Safe And Sound" Perez.

Great news. She will do great as Joni!

  15. Savvy says – reply to this

No way will that work. It will tank. Joni was au natural, profound. ethereal and an amazingly talented base played, writer & songwriter/singer. Taylor is a make up faced, fluffy, superficial singer, weak guitar player who writes songs about her break ups & love in 6th grade terms. I like Taylor for exactly what she is. Get an yet unknown Canadian actress to play Joni Mitchell. Their voices aren't even close.

  16. @v@ says – reply to this

Holy cow, good luck with that. Apart from the vocal coach they'll no doubt give her, singing along to all of Joni's old albums constantly at home or wherever will help her to get the feel of Joni's style akin to learning the inflections of a language. Joni's later works were jazz influenced. If that fails, more cowbell.

I am really looking forward to this movie. I think taylor will be brilliant in the role of joni as she does look a bit like her, she can play guitar, she can sing and she can act. She was really good in CSI and although she wasnt given anything to work with in valentines day her character was still the funniest in the movie. I have been to 3 of her concerts, from a small venue to 2 arena shows and she completely blew me away with not only her singing ability but also her ability to captivate the audience and make every song sound different. I feel sorry for the people that just sit behind their computers and criticize a 22yr old who has achieved more than they ever will

Re: Savvy – Umm Savvy, first of all she actually doesnt wear that much make except for a red lip and mascara. Its not the 70's anymore FYI. She is an amazing guitar player who has been playing for almost 11 years. Her songs have been praised by countless music critics and fellow artists. She has 6 grammys and a ton of other awards and the producers and directors obviously were impressed enough by her auditions to give her the role. Why dont you just wait till the movie comes out before making judgement.

Re: @v@ – LOL! "More cowbell!" Love it! They're obviously going after Taylor's fanbase.

BTW, "QuietDanTN" Taylor Swift sure isn't one of "my betters." How ridiculous. She writes like Hallmark, she's superficial, yet still manages to sell records. That tells me sheeple will buy anything if you market it right and convince them it's "music." Anyone who knows anything about Joni Mitchell knows the music is honest and real.Joni wrote it and sang it unfiltered. That's more than anyone can say about Taylor. I remember when Taylor tried to sing a duet with Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac and she bombed. Some people don't like Taylor, and the Taylorbots need to get used to it.

  20. Hi says – reply to this

Re: lemonbird – I don't get it, why are you on an article about Taylor if you don't like her? You came on here just to say negative stuff about her. Why would you do that? If "anyone" will buy anything as you put it. Why haven't you sold over 20 million albums, won countless grammys, or made over 50 million dollars last year? Oh yea that is right you are just a jealous guy who comes on to articles about famous people to say negative things about them. Man, you parents must be soooo proud of you.

  21. 21

Re: Hi – I guess I can be anywhere I want, I don't need your permission. But to answer specifically, I was interested in the movie because I happen to be a fan of Joni and Carole King. I don't have to defend my opinion. You Taylorbots think we are accountable to you. We aren't. I also cannot stand the false impression Taylor's constant marketing gives, that the entire world just loves her and thinks she is some kind of musical genius. We don't and she isn't.

Sometimes there are people who come to a Taylor posting and say, hey, not so fast! We don't all like the constant brainwashing. Taylor is unavoidable and her fans need to expect some backlash. And there is really no better place to express your opinion either pro or con about someone than on a thread about them. Trust me. If Perez wasn't getting paid for his "marketing and advertising" he wouldn't be cfrapping out Taylor praise either. I believe he really does love GaGa, but Taylor, meh!

  22. 22

Oh Man.. horrible idea.. One good thing, the kids who follow her who most likey have never heard of Mitchell will research and find out what great songwriting and singing really is.

Re: lemonbird – Look I am a Taylor fan first of all, and I really don't care what you think about her. That being said, people are having a problem with you because you have had to have literally clicked on this page at least 10 different times now. You say her concerts are garbage, so you have had to look them up to know that, so you saying you are here for "joni" is a lie. Your here to say bad things about Taylor and that is why you are here and that is why people don't like you.

  24. Seriously says – reply to this

Re: lemonbird – *Clicks on profile* Sees he has over 1200 comments on perezhilton.com. Sees all of them are negative comments about celebs. Maybe you should grow up before you decide to judge other peoples lives.

  25. @v@ says – reply to this

Taylor will have to put her folk head on. Watch the folk artists of the day; Mitchell, Baez, etc. They were stand alone, no glitzy production…just them taking the crowd somewhere else with pure vocals and a tune. Atmosphere? Very laid back. It was all about the meaning in the lyrics assisted by most of the audience being high.

  26. A Swiftie says – reply to this

I agree with quiet Dan . Furthermore Swift is Headliner Status. Been to her concerts and I think it takes a lot of doing to get as big as Swift.

  27. A Swiftie says – reply to this

Re: lemonbird – Not knocking Joni Mitchell but from what I looked up Mitchell has not won nearly the amount of awards as swift and certainly not at 22. You are only here to spew your hate for Swift.

  28. A Swiftie says – reply to this

Re: superstarblue89 – Don't worry won't happen. Swift will go down as one of the greatest. Highly successful and excels in everything she does, But don't take my word for it look up her discography and take note of her philanthropy work.

  29. A Swiftie says – reply to this

Re: Dale – With yourself I hope with a comment like that! Don't go then no one would probably want you there!

  30. A Swiftie says – reply to this

Re: Dianna12 – I like some of Mitchells songs but I believe Swift is more creative songwriter and entertainer and will go down as one of the greatest but somehow the Swifthaters can't stand that. Well all I can say is the haters have a lot to deal with cause she's her to stay for a long time. Oh and by the way I listened to Joni Mitchell and I don't think by opinion she's the best technical singer either any more than Swift .

  31. A Swiftie says – reply to this

You are wrong She'll do just fine and the movie will be a blockbuster no doubt.
