Sad! George Strait Announces Farewell Tour!!!

| Filed under: Music MinuteSad Sad

George Strait has done it all.

King of country music? Check!

59 No. 1 hits? Check!

Part of Nashville's Country Hall Of Fame? Check!

The living legend has got nothing left to prove, but that doesn't mean he won't be missed when he's gone.

The country star has announced he will begin his farewell tour very soon, which will be aptly titled the Cowboy Rides Away Tour.

In a moving statement, Strait said:

"This is going to be a very special, emotional tour for me. Everywhere we're going holds fond memories and I’m looking forward to paying my respects."

The musical goodbyes will start Jan. 18 in Lubbock, Texas, and will stretch into 2014. Although this will be the last chance for his fans to see him live - don't think the man is ready to ride off into the sunset just yet.

Strait added:

"Don't think I'm retiring, because I'm not. I'm still going to make records and I'm going to write. If a special event happens to come up somewhere that I want to do, by all means I'm gonna do it. I'm not saying this is going to be the last time I'll be on stage singing with my band. I hope I still have a lot of those left in me, but as far as a structured tour goes, after the last date in 2014 that will be it."

And with 68 million albums sold in his career - we doubt the man will be forgotten anytime soon.

Most likely, his music will live on forever!!

I feel proud I've never heard of him. I'm so grateful everyday I wasn't born in a 3rd world country or a 3rd world US state.

Good for him! Maybe, if we're lucky, Madonna & Mick Jagger will take the hint and roll up their acts too!

59 no. 1 hits and he didn't write any of them.

I wish I had a dollar every time an entertainer announced their Farewell Tour! LOL!

Aw, he puts on such a fun show, too! I got to see him a few years ago (in Massachusetts, so screw off "eicarr"), and he was fun and lively, and I knew his entire set because he's been around so long and had so much radio success. I didn't even realize how many of his songs I knew till I got there!
But it's nice at least knowing the touring end is in sight for him, because I think he's going to end it on really high note. Unlike so many other old stars and their many farewell tours, I think George Strait is a bit more straightforward and isn't going to drag things out for the money. If he's done, he's done. And like he said, it doesn't mean he's done performing, so I think he's going to leave a very nice legacy behind him.

Love his music and wish him the best. Hope he comes to So Cal.

certainly like your web site but you have to check the spelling on several of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I in finding it very troublesome to inform the truth on the other hand I'll surely come again again.
