Fox News Apologizes For Airing Sudden Suicide On National Television

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV NewsMedia MinuteSad Sad

Fox News just messed up. Big time.

The 24-hour news channel was following a high-speed chase when the suspect got out of his vehicle, stumbled through a field and then proceeded to shoot himself in the head.

Unfortunately for viewers, the control room didn't cut away fast enough and broadcast the strong visual into millions of homes.

After returning from a commercial break, Shephard Smith couldn't apologize enough (above) and proceeded to explain how his show managed to air the footage even with a 5-second time delay on their side.

We see no reason to post that GRAPHIC footage because it actually made us sick to our stomach and a little lightheaded, but CLICK HERE to watch it if U feel so inclined.

It was a human mistake that it was shown, but posting it online a directing people to watch it is just sick! Granted he was a criminal but surely he has a family and i'm sure they don't want the whole world seeing the final moments of their loved ones life and the way in which he took his life! I think you should be ashamed of yourself Perez and think how you would feel if this was a member of your family! Suicide is horrible and directing people to watch it even by condemning the act is still appalling!

Perez, shut your mouth. It was human error and it was not even that graphic. Stop being such a baby you idiot liberal.

  5. 5

People should see this. It's called the real world. It wasn't even graphic he holds gun to head and he goes down on his face. Vido is far away and you see no blood or anything. If a kid saw it they'd think he was just going ni night. Be thankful he didn't start going on a shooting spree.

Reality Tv at its best. Hunger Games but better acting.

  7. 7

How could they have known he was going to kill himself?

It was an accident. Accidents happen all the time, especially in television. And it wasn't that graphic, you can't see any blood or anything. Just trying to make the mistake seem more grand than it is because it's fox news.
And you can't really chastise them for accidently showing this to viewers when you purposely post it for people to see.

Fool, whoever wrote this. This is your first mention of the incident after the apology, get real. You didn't see this live. Stop it.

  12. 12

Ya Piggy. Ok. They messed up big time. And I guess you didn't by linking to it? Did you hear your boy has planned 450 million for Egypt? That just hit Drudge minutes ago. But I guess that doesn't matter to you as long as you can continue fixating on gay crap and drawing hearts on crotches and living in your fantasy world.

  13. 13

Excuse me? You did post it. What a fricking idiot. No class at all Perez. How utterly stupid of you. I refuse to watch.

Re: Prince Charming – He's a liar for sure. Glad u caught that. What I don't understand is why people still go under this hypocrite blog???? Oh yeah because he's a good to laugh AT

  15. 15

It was clearly an unfortunate mistake… as seen by Shephard's reaction.

  16. 16

Re: kandycane – guilty pleasure I guess! I do like the music news, I'll admit but the hypnotically bull shit is classless

What is the difference between that and movies? Pretty much the same, at least for me because that shit is actually real and we shouldn't glamorize it via television and movies. I'm from a cop's family and have heard & seen it all. This is called life… Think about the poor cop who has to go tell the parents that their kid shot themselves in the head. My Father had to do that countless of times and held the mother's hand when she collapsed. Welcome to the real world. I guess this time the parent can just turn on fox

I have to say I was watching when this was happening live and yes - it did make me sick because as soon as he got out of the car, I could see that he had a gun in his hand and without anyone else around - it seemed pretty clear that he would be using it on himself. I don't blame Fox - while it was sad, the footage from the mideast is much more violent - I did appreciate Shep apologizing - not much he could do. Just feel bad for the family of the shooter.

  19. 19

How could they have known? You, on the other hand, know exactly what you are directing people to.

Re: chikhacker1 – Agreed! Perez is so anti-Republican that he will knock anything that has anything to do with it. No matter my political party, I don't see a need to bad mouth the other parties.

  22. 22

One less dumbass my tax dollars have to pay for while heis in jail is what I see.

  23. 23

Yep, because in the real world there are no suicides and there is nothing ever shown bad on the news.

  24. 24

Re: KittieNash – how harsh. what a numbed, out of touch, selfish person you must be. to be happy that someone was distraught enough to actually take their own life while being televised and all you can comment about is how it would effect your taxes just shows what a completely vacant person you must be. let's hope none of your family or friends become desperate or happen to be mentally ill.

  25. 25

Re: MntDew – That's why there is supposed to be a delay on live tv, in case things like this happen. They should always have a delay! What if that person had hit a child or something more horrific? But you know how Faux News is, always taking short cuts.

The last time this guy apologized was when he mentioned J Lo giving a blow job! … YouTube it (if you have not seen it already).

They were following live news and sometimes real life gets messy! It wouldn't have been so shocking if the news wasn't watered down as much as it is.

    Re: why??

the point is, its like drunk driving. if you drive drunk yeah you keep your buzz going you rock out to your music and you MIGHT get home safe or without killing anyone but you also might get pulled over wreck your life or someone elses, its the risk of drunk driving. fox showing car chases should know the risk of a fatal accident, a fatal shooting exists but they choose to show it for sensationalistic ratings pull. if they used their moral judgement rather than just going after ratings with know thought we wouldnt see stuff like this. and sure no blood but a mans suicide, his life ending should never be seen on live tv. its wrong to watch somebody die. its a human mistake as much as getting loaded and running over a jogger with your car.

Do you guys not remember the video of the guy who shot himself in front of a live news conference in (I think) the 90s? This is NOTHING compared to that.

Shit happens. Sometimes on LIVE TV, I do NOT blame FOX and I do not think the long apology was necessary, a short I am sorry would have done just fine. I feel awful for the guy's family though.
