RuPaul's Drag Race Star Sahara Davenport Passes Away

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayR.I.P.Sad SadReality TVLGBT

The drag world just suffered a big loss.

RuPaul's Drag Race star Sahara Davenport, otherwise known as Antoine Ashley, has passed away.

The cause of death of the season 2 contestant is not yet known, but the biggest queens in the biz are mourning her death. Among all of the tweets and Facebook status updates honoring the diva, Logo also released a statement reading:

“Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport. He was an amazing artist and entertainer who’ll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need.”

Karl is better known as Manila Luzon, a fellow drag queen who competed on the third season of the Logo reality hit. In a simple status update on Sunday, she wrote, "I love him so much."

Aww! Our heart goes out to you, gurl!

Sahara was loved by A LOT of people and she'll be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

It was AIDS for sure :-(

I am really glad my generation of people where I live don't put up with homophobia. I wish the knobs that saw fit to share their idiocy with us would instead, shut the fuck up and mind their own business.

I didn't see his season, but his stage name sounds very familiar. Maybe LOGO could do a marathon of his season as a tribute.

Sahara will be missed by many! She was a class act and somebody who never wished bad on anyone. People need to stop assuming things when they dont know what happened. I cant believe someone would waste their own time to come here and comment such horrific things. WE LOVE YOU SAHARA!

To Pansy, Eric & MadDog: nothing would give me greater pleasure than to fuck you all up the ass until you all were dead with zero dignity. You are a group of hillbilly cowards who have no place on this earth. Go lick your mothers asshole clean.

A kind and loving soul that will truly be missed. Don't let a beautiful spirit be darkened by hate. Simple minds know no real beauty and need not be addressed. Prayers for those who were blessed to know and love you.

Re: David – Hillbilly is a derogatory term also. I don't quite get why you are calling them out for being bigots by being a bigot yourself.

I honestly cannot believe the degree of intolerance and hate shown in some of the comments. If you did not agree with Antoine's lifestyle, fine…you are entitled to your opinion. However, I see no benefit in posting hateful messages to comment on an article pertaining to his death. I think Antoine-Sahara was an educated, intelligent performer who loved his art. Rest in peace, Antoine. Ignore the haters who are clearly just jealous of your boogie. xoxo

I have a hard time being offended by trolls who willingly post on a celebrity gossip site ran by a known homosexual. Sounds like someone's repressed~

R.I.P. to a wonderfully talented queen and a classy, caring individual. And my thoughts also go out to Manila Luzon, that she may find the strength to get through this tragedy. And to all the haters commenting on this story, what the fuck is your problem? It's sick that you find joy in going out of your way to post hateful comments in order to feel better about yourself. You obviously have issues with homosexuality, yet you come to Perez Hilton routinely. You really don't have a clue how sad, ridiculous and pathetic that makes you look.

    Re: Pansy Hunter
The new "nickname" is even more pathetic than the previous one. I think a more appropriate name for you would be Yes I'm An Idiot. Regardless of what gender Perez refers to HER as, SHE will always be more WOMAN than you'll ever be. Your obsession with trying to take down Perez is so lame. Perez bashing is SO 2008.

  21. checkmaet says – reply to this

I do not understand why homophobic, gay bashing haters are even on this website to begin with, and on top of all that, why would you comment terrible things?!

I never had the pleasure of meeting HER in drag, or HIM in person, but many of friends knew Sahara personally. From what I've read, Sahara had a very fulfilling life, being well educated and accomplishing great things. It's distasteful to say the things that have been said. Regardless of sexual orientation, etc.. A great person has passed on, and left many people sad and confused. That's what matters! Our community has lost a leader, and the world has lost a good person!

The folks that are saying awful things are probably battling their own 'gay' demons, or they wouldn't waste time coming here to defame the rest of us, and a deceased person who cannot defend themselves.

    With Love,

  25. 25

I am going to stop reading the comments here; they make me twitch. It's obvious how many of you huff glue before you come here to read during Honey Boo Boo's commercial breaks.

  26. 26

It has been proven that those who are haters of homosexuals have deep rooted homosexual thoughts/tendencies and most often engage in annonymous homosexual activites and spread hate against homosexuals because they hate themselves… so let them spread their hate… and laugh them… they are useless and unsure of themselves.

It is such a shame that people hate themselves so much that they have to hate on other people. I cant imagine what these people do for a living to have time to sit around and bash other people. The same people who will teach their kids to hate just because they dont understand, instead of teaching their kids that all people are created equal and to treat everyone how you would want to be treated. If you have time to sling insults and stupidity at people then maybe you should look in the mirror and take that time to work with a charity or help at a childrens hospital. These are the people that are devout religious folks and hide behind their religion to preach hate you are truly the disgusting ones. I had the pleasure of meeting Sahara and Manila on a few occasions and they are both beautiful human beings who cared more about themselves then others. Whether Sahara chose to be a man or a woman is no ones business but her own. The fact that she/he choose to share the beautiful talent and gift with the world is what makes she/he so special. And judging by many of the hateful comments on this page having a "cock" between your legs doesnt make you a MAN. I would much rather my son grow up to dress in drag and be a kind human being then be a hateful human being who slings insults at other people to make up for his own shortcomings!

As a fan of the show, I must say that I have the utmost respect for anyone with the bravery and integrity to put themselves out there in the public eye like Sahara Davenport did, whether it be on that show or otherwise. Some of the classiest morals that could be taught to society are conveyed on that show, and Sahara Davenport was a part of that and for that Manila and Sahara's families should be proud of raising a beautiful young artist and a wonderful role model for LGBT youth across the world. It saddens me that people assume it was AIDS or refer to her in such a derogatory manner, regardless of whether she lived a life different to yours, she was first and foremost a human being and should be acknowledged as such. Granted, you may not have known Sahara personally, and you may not understand what it means to be an LGBT male or female or furthermore a drag queen, and you may have the right to anonymity on this site, but I implore you to do the right thing, and respect the passing of a human being that worked for a greater goal of understanding and acceptance. It makes you a lot more respectable to me and to many other people who pass by on this site.

    Re: ericmtl
Would someone dying from AIDS be performing at a nightclub just days before their death? Would they still be physically fit? Would they have performances planned for the future? I don't think so.
This isn't the 80s anymore. Gay doesn't mean "AIDS for sure". Have you ever seen someone who was in the last stages of AIDS? As someone who currently works in a hospital, I can guarantee that none of them look good.

why is it when someone says a bad comment they are called a redneck hillbilly.. Or something of that sort… Im from the south and i take offense to being lumped in with them. Yes alot of people in the south are kinda ignorant. But not all of us!! I personally have not heard of this man. Do there for its still sad when someone passes away. A lot of you people should be ashamed of yourselves!
