Lena Dunham Promises To Give Girls A More Colorful Cast

Girls is JUST like your life… if you're a white hipster chick living in NYC!

The HBO series' writer, director and star, Lena Dunham, doesn't feel awesome about the limited perspectives represented on her show — so she has vowed to mix up the cast next season!

Speaking at the Fortune Magazine's annual Most Powerful Women Summit, Lena revealed that she felt:

"Heartbreak at the idea that the show would make anyone feel isolated. [Because] all I want to do is make women feel excited and included by the show."

Understanding that her audience is as diverse as her humor, she promises that Season 2 of Girls will include:

"A multitude of new characters in the show. There are some of color. Some are not. Some are Caucasian."

Sounds like exciting stuff!

Perhaps some ladies of color is all the show needs to nab Lena the Emmy for season 2!

So stupid. Color will add nothing of substance to this show–it's just a way of appeasing those who have nothing better to do but whine. Congrats PC police on bullying more people into making unnecessary accommodations!

When does the second season start? What about Curb?? :(

Typical Hollywood & elitist hypocrisy!! The espouse & promote diversity and acceptance but in reality its “lily white” land-the only people of color are usually the help or the criminals!! It took a magazine to point out to her that everyone-from the president of HBO to most people on her show are white-except for the lady that cleans her Upper Westside apartment of course!! ;)

I really don't like this show or Lena, but I feel sorry for her. Everyone is bitching about the fact that she doesn't have any black girls on here. Next season we're going to have black girls on the show, and you know what's going to happen? She'll be accused of putting token black characters in, and then she'll be accused of not being realistic about the portrayal of black women, because she ISN'T BLACK so she doesn't know what it's like to be a black woman. They can never win.

This is completely ridiculous. Writers should not have to worry about casting this many black people or this many latino people or caucasian or whatever. They should be worried about finding the perfect actor for the role despite color. This is supposedly the new Sex and the City and if we look at Sex and the City none of those girls were of color, but it didn't matter because they were all different characters we could relate to on a personal level despite the color of our skin or theirs. I personally love this show because I am a college student and I can relate to these characters who have just graduated college. Lena, don't change a goddamn thing and don't listen to anyone. If you are deprived of an Emmy because you don't have any black people on your show that's just bullshit and completely unjust.

I don't see the point of this.

    Re: boston61
if she is talented why does it matter what her family makes? so much prejudice.
lena is the reason her show is successful not her mother!
on the end it doesnt matter how many connections a person has if they are not good they will fail.
