X Factor Stages A Whitney Houston Sing Off!

| Filed under: TV NewsRihannaMusic MinuteMariah CareyCeline DionSimon CowellWhitney HoustonX FactorReality TV

Usually, it’s a music competition (un)spoken rule that you do NOT sing Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or Celine Dion.

However, on the X Factor last night, two contestants decided to take the risk and cover Whitney’s classic, I Will Always Love You… and they BOTH did pretty dayum good!

First, check out Paige Thomas’ rendition (above), who, despite being shaky with nerves, ended up delivering!

Next up? CeCe Frey, who clearly won the sing-off battle, with Simon even saying she “nailed it!”

Take a look at CeCe’s Whitney cover and find out which of the ladiez made it through to the next round… AFTER THE JUMP!!!

While both Paige and CeCe made it through to the next round, L.A. Reid did say Paige will be “compared to another performer who looks similar.”

Ever since Paige took the stage at auditions, she’s drawn comparisons to Rihanna, which MAY end up hurting her in the long run.

he said "one of you" nailed it. he did not specify ce ce.

Cheetah, paw print face did better but I CAN'T STAND HER.

  3. 3

@themundane It was clear who nailed it.

Right, Simon said "one of them nailed it." It probably was CeCe, the most annoying contestant so far. Although the vocal coach with the tight leopard dress isn't far behind. I can't believe she made it to the next round.

By nailing it, does he mean a note-for-note imitation of Whitney Houston singing "I Will Always Love You?" I would rather listen to the Rihanna lookalike's warbly version over the annoying Ke$ha lookalike's unpassionate version, although neither of them really moved me.

so can not stand cheeta face, smug know it all, and catty as hell. Hope she does an epic fail tonight!

CeCe did clearly do better, but I can't stand her. Hope she doesn't make it through. As far as Paige goes, I liked her in the auditions but last night, I wasn't a fan. I'm interested to see if she will get better.

He only said that one of them nailed it and he put his hand up and stopped CeCe towards the end of the song…If she was the one who nailed it then I'm sure he wouldn't have stopped her. And THAT PAW PRINT AND ATTITUDE HAS TO GO…TURNS MY ENTIRE FAMILY OFF!

they were both not even good… x factor is disappointing. i'd rather hear demi show them how to sing it.

Cece sounded awful with no control over her voice whatsoever. Her "riffs" were really just her inability to hold the notes. She was louder, but I thought Paige's was more tasteful. Also, "shaky with nerves"? I thought it sounded like a well done vibrato. Cece definitely needs to check herself. There's being confident and then there's being rude. I don't watch X-Factor very much but I hope Paige makes it farther than Cece. From what I've seen, Paige is more respectful than that tacky, arrogant, diva-wannabe.
