THE Big Bird flew all the way from Sesame Street to appear on Saturday Night Live to comment on Mitt Romney's shout out during the his debate against Obama last week.

Why a billion dollar franchise that's been sucking at the government teet for more than 40 years still needs a federal hand out is beyond me.

PBS does offer quality programming. But I see no reason why the taxpayers should subsidize them, especially when one considers how often they're begging for donations. Run a few commercials between programs and stop depending on handouts. It's time for PBS to sink or swim.

As a taxpayer, I don't have a problem with supporting the last remaining safe haven from the Kardashians, boring singing talent(?) shows, unfunny comedies and other crappy commercial shows. Long live Big Bird!

The PBS station we used to get in LA is no longer a PBS station so you have to tune into one in Orange County which sometimes works and otherwise does not.
