In 1989, he was arrested and charged with "aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and criminal conspiracy."
Just a few days after winning a Grammy for his amazeballs collaboration with DJ Jazzy Jeff, the Fresh Prince's bodyguard brutally beat William Hendricks, a record promoter, so badly that it nearly left him blind!!

The rapper maintains his innocence! In a 2005 interview, he explained himself:
“It wasn’t my fault. That’s what they all say! But it wasn’t my fault. This is back in Philly. One of my buddies beat up this dude, and I was there. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”
Since we never heard of him acting violently before and the police eventually dropped all the charges against him, we're inclined to take him at his word!
Still, sources close to the Man in Black an orange jumpsuit insist it was a profoundly terrible moment for the artist. One admitted:
“Will had to spend a night in the cell at the West Philadelphia police station with other inmates waking him up all night long and asking for his autograph. It was the worst night of his life. He wants to forget it ever happened.”
An entire night of signing autographs for inmates?
