This was almost too sad to write about, but we're hoping with more information spread, the more help authorities will get to finding Jessica Ridgeway's brutal murderer.
The ten-year-old disappeared October 5 on her way to see some friends at the park.
That same weekend, her backpack was found in a residential area of Superior, Colorado. One week later, her mutilated remains are identified after being found in a park seven miles from her house.
Westminster police chief Lee Birk said in a statement:
"It is with a great deal of sorrow in my heart that I inform you that the body that was found in Arvada has been positively identified as Jessica Ridgeway. The mission has changed from a search for Jessica to a mission of justice for Jessica."
Her remains were said to be so terribly dismembered, it took days to properly identify them as hers. Absolutely heart-wrenching…
Luckily, the FBI is working with local police. They thing the guilty is most likely someone known or in the community and asks everyone to be on the look-out for unusual behavior.
If you know of anything that could help them find the abductor(s) or have a tip for the police, contact (303) 658-4336 or PDAmberAlert@cityofwestminster.us to help justice be served.
Rest in peace, poor Jessica…
